Finally. Now we can talk about this pics on this site.

Soundwave's labeled "MP-02". Interesting.

Metroplex, Scamper, and Trailcutter all still look good.

The 2-pack seems pointless, with Prime's colors being darker and Predaking's heads being all gray.

Is it just me or does Bigbot have a new face sculpt? I see some parts swaps happening too!

Looks like Soundwave keeps the Megatron pistol but loses the energon cube and the 'grid' chestplate.

I am totally fine with all of this. Definitely gonna buy him.

The 2 pack would be so much better if they'd just left Predaking's face alone. Optimus' darker colors work pretty well, but Predaking's face looks like it was bleached or just left unpainted.

I have a question.....why no Masterpiece Ratbat (as a cassette)? I realize that would up the cost a bit, but not even Takara did one. He was a more prominent figure in the comics than any of the other Cassetticons.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, I like the packaging, but it has me wonder why they started now with their own "MP" labeling, and why he is #2. I guess in the end, Acid Storm will become #1. :-?

Hasbro didn't make one because Takara didn't make one.

And Takara didn't make one likely because he wasn't a 1984 toy, which seems to be what Takara's MPs are trying to cover first and foremost these days.

As for his prominence in the comics, Takara goes by the cartoons since the American (or UK, in Marvel's case) comics had little-to-no mainstream relevance in Japan back in the day.

Unless Optimus is supposed to be #1, retroactively.

Be as that may (and it does sound very likely), Red Alert is from 1985 but has a MP figure out, and Smokescreen is also from 1985. Tigertrack didn't exist until 2003! I guess if you don't count retools/repaints then what you said makes sense. Still, I do hope he (Ratbat) will come along at some point.

Yeah, true, I meant they're making the molds of the 1984 characters first, but also making the most out of them with redecos and remolds of them. ;)

As Sabrdlade pointed out, it's Trailbreaker.
The other one over buy BB, though, is actually Orion Pax.
Cuz I just noticed we've got the 4 Spotlight Autobot deluxes on there.

Soundwave is MP-02, huh? I kind of doubt Acid Storm would be MP-01... maybe another run of Masterpiece Optimus as MP-01 (perhaps without the trailer?)?

Loving Soundwave's packaging! ..But we still don't know which retailer he will be exclusive to. :BANG_HEAD:

The new Deluxe packaging is looking nice as well.

Bloody hell, Hasbro is really trying to shove Predaking dow our throats. I see so many of him, I've begun to actually miss some of the shelfwarming RiD figures. I'll accept Optimus, but there's absolutely nothing on the universe that will make me get that Predaking. [-(

...except bribery. That might persuade me.

What's with the Chinese on MP Wave?

Oh look, the Generation deluxes comes with an added comic book. I wonder if it would be the full-length unabridged issue, or like a 4-page excerpt.
It's probably an excuse to bump the price up to $24.99 per deluxe... Cause you know, Comic book. 8-}

Cool idea though, I always wanted physical issues of the IDW stuff.

why the hell is soundwave an exclusive but metroplex isnt? What the hell kind of crap is that? And why TRU, hasnt hasbro learned no one likes TRU anymore? Great so now if i want soundwave im going to have to fight scalpers & pay top dollar cause TRU has to charge ridiculous prices. Just more proof that hasbro doesnt have a clue. And why do i have the feeling those deluxes are going to cost over $20

So I've been trying to figure out why Soundwave is labeled "MP-02" and I read a lot of the previous comments/theories. After a little digging, these images are not on Hasbro's Transformers site nor their Facebook. Also, why would there be Chinese writing on the box?

This must be the Hasbro Asia branch sending out this information, and that leaves MP-01 to be either Acid Storm or the rumored Asia reissue of Masterpiece Grimlock.

I don't think this will be the exact box image for Soundwave's North American release, but they did leave the Kanji on the recent Generations figures that were TRU exclusives. Time will tell, but it would be odd for NA to not have something labeled "MP-01".

So, you want Metroplex to be a retailer exclusive...?

Megatron Wolf wrote:And why TRU, hasnt hasbro learned no one likes TRU anymore? Great so now if i want soundwave im going to have to fight scalpers & pay top dollar cause TRU has to charge ridiculous prices.

This is probably more a market decision than Hasbro's. I think all North American Masterpieces (with the possible exception of the original 12" Optimus) were all retailer exclusives. Wal-Mart didn't seem to do too well when they had Starscream and Skywarp, having to clearance them to get them off shelves. I seem to remember Skywarp being reduced 50% within the first month of release. TRU obviously wants the exclusive and is paying for the right to carry it. Perhaps it's a bad business deal for other retailers, regardless of being an exclusive or not.

On the consumer end, I completely empathize with you. It's very frustrating to think that many collectors/fans may not get a TRU exclusive off the shelf because someone else is getting dibs at the entire shipment. Hopefully distribution will be better this time. I will say that I found MP Thundercracker hanging on a shelf about a week ago, so there's always a possibility of finding what you're looking for.

I would personally question, much less doubt, it. Because it would be logical for Acid Storm to be MP-01 due to the fact that he is a Hasbro exclusive. That, and the MP-10 Convoy was issued in 2012. However... Seeing how having Prime be a MP-00 would also be a logical step, I think what you might be what they are planning. ;)

Awesome. If we're seeing MP Soundwave packaging pics then he'll hopefully be available within another month or two. Odd how they didn't stick with the same TRU/MP packaging design.

I'd love to get Metroplex but I just don't see how I can afford both this summer. My wife understands my love for the series and my collecting habits but I think buying both would be irresponsible of me. Maybe if he's still sticking around during my birthday I have a chance.

I really need to get Soundwave. I slept on every masterpiece that released in the US... and regretted not getting any of them. (ESPECIALLY TRU mp10)

I hope they re release optimus... as for metroplex if i have the money i will definitely get him. It looks incredible!

I'm pretty sure the generations figures are 15 dollars too. I have to get Pax and Megatron.

Why couldn't hasbro just paint Predaking's head? Is it so hard?

Just as I suspected; virtually no change in price. My local retailers ask about $16 a pop, and with tax, exceed $17 anyway. So an extra dollar won't kill me.

IDW has an ongoing series of comics that pick up the G1 Transformers fiction where it was last left off. The IDW designs we're getting in the Generations "Thrilling Thirty" assortment are those featured as updated G1 characters in IDW's current comics. IDW has also assimilated many cybertronian forms and models for G1 characters taken directly from the War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron games. Recall that War for Cybertron especially was heavily influenced by G1, though ostensibly meant by Hasbro as a starting point for the modern/aligned continunity for the brand. Hence, we are free to assume that our WfC/FoC Bumblebee, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave, etc. figures are also their G1 selves. For the past few years, Hasbro has purposely been putting out toys with nebulous fictional affinity to any particular continuity so you can organize your collections as you see fit, so none of this should really be surprising at this point. All the IDW stuff coming out in figure form this year can safely be considered G1 or G1-compatible at this point. In short, enjoy Hasbro's new two foot tall G1 Metroplex ;)

That was known from the very beginning that we first heard about the "Thrilling 30" toys. It's the Spotlight issues from IDW, which is why all of the Thrilling 30 Deluxe toys look like the IDW Spotlight character bodies.

Because Metroplex is an ordinary mass release figure (just a big one), while Soundwave is a freakin' Masterpiece!

TRU is the ONLY store chain that would take this kind of toy. Hasbro already tried Walmart with Starscream and Skywarp, and both of those sold terribly through Walmart. Thus Walmart won't take anymore MPs, nor will any other store besides TRU take them.

Dude, he's covered in IDW G1 characters, and his bio pins him down as IDW's character, not FOC's character.

You clearly still have a misunderstood view of the Aligned Continuity.

Uh no. You do understand Geewun ended in 1990, right? Its over. 23 years ago. Move on. The fact that you are using that term to describe a modern day Transformer that is not an MP replica is ridicious. Classic case of geewunitis....you can spot the symtoms easily. They tend to take figures that are obviously not geewun classics and fill their empty holes in their collection. They replace the embittered tears they have shed over not getting a genuine geewun classics redo with silly replacements. But, in the case of these replacements, it is perfectly evident that they do not belong in a geewun classics collection. Examples of this are ROTF Beachcomber, HFTD Seaspray, Energon Shockblast, FOC Shockwave (because geewunners are especially bitter about not having a classics voyager of this guy)and PCC Huffer just to name a few. And of course Generations ROTF Springer, until they threw that away like a cheap whore in favor of FOC/IDW Springer. There are a few trolling around on the site. Beware as they will retro-douche you if you try to rebuff them.

The cartoon is dead, yes. The Marvel comics are dead, yes. The Blackthorne comics are dead, yes. The toyline is dead, yes. The Dreamwave comics are dead, yes (but only since 2004, not 1990).

But IDW's comics that have been going on since 2005 are a new, alternate version of G1 that's still alive and kicking.

There's also Fun Publications' Wings Universe fiction, which is based on the G1 cartoon, is still ongoing.

And the All Spark manga is another alternate take on G1, and it's still going strong.

So, while all the old G1 things from before 2005 are indeed dead, there's still new, different G1 things that are alive and kick to this day.

Classic case of geewunitis here. I have spoke with Sabrblade about his condition before.

He is in the denial stage currently. When he gets FOC/IDW Trailcutter in his hands he will move on the anger stage. Right after he shoehorns it in next to his ROTF Gears.

Then what would you call IDW's comics from before 2010? 2010 was the year the Aligned Continuity began, so what were IDW's comics in the pre-Aligned years?

And what would you call Wings Universe or All Spark?

Enlighten me.

Well, then he'd just be denying reality, and at that point, I can' do anything more to educate and enlighten. As long as he keeps buying Transformers to feed Hasbro's bottom line and keep our hobby afloat, I'm cool with thinking the moons of Cybertron are made of cheese ;)

Denying reality? WHATTTTTTTTT?

Me? Oh no. Look in the mirror. You say above that IDW picks up where geewun left off. That is a bs statement if I have ever heard one. You do know Prowl was killed in geewun, right? And the dinobots were created by the Autobots on earth after seeing dino bones in a cave, right? And the insecticons became so on earth, right. And the fact that Ironhide, Ratchet, and over half of the geewun bots that are in IDW comics died in geewun, right?
And I am in denial? Meh.........

Can't say because I don't know anything about them. But, judging by the way you view IDW and anything else you can bastardize into your collection I would say it is the same scenario. I will prove your geewunitis. Sabrblade, do you have or have you had any of the following in your geewun classics collection? And I will be fair and not include the new IDW figures or any of the questionable figures from Generations I mentioned before, like Warpath and Blurr.

Energon Classics Devastator
Energon ROTF Superion
Energon Generations Bruticus
Energon Shockwave
Botcon Huffer
Botcon Springer
PCC Huffer
ROTF Gears
ROTF Beachcomber
ROTF Brawn
RTS Outback/Fallback
Generations WFC Soundwave (either the deluxe or the voyager from 2012)
Generations FOC Shockwave
DOTM Powerglide
HFTD Seaspray
GDO Springer
GDO Dead End
GDO Brawl
GDO Sandstorm

These are a few. Do you have any of these? And if so, why do you think they fit in your geewun classics collection?

Any pre 1991 toys, books, games, tv shows, movies, etc that bear the Transformers logo. Why does it have to be geewun? What about G2? Why can't IDW be G2 in your eyes? By your measure it could be????

Sorry missed one q. Any pre-2010 IDW is assimilated because the title was created after the book started, but made offical by Hasbro, making it canon. Just like they did with geewun when G2 came along.

Look at this picture and tell me what you would classify it as:

shockblast2 wrote:Do you have any of these? And if so, why do you think they fit in your geewun classics collection?
I own the following:

Energon Classics Devastator
Energon ROTF Superion
Generations WFC Soundwave (both the deluxe or the voyager from 2012)
Generations FOC Shockwave
HFTD Seaspray

But, I don't have them in what I would consider a "Classics collection" since, for a long time, I made the idiotic mistake of intentionally avoiding many of the Classics (or "CHUG") molds. The few ones I have managed to pick up, as well as the above ones, were mostly bought because I either liked the mold or the character the represented. "Classics"/"CHUG" is something I frankly haven't really collected since I turned my focus more towards the Movieverse and Animated toys.

So, yeah, I missed out on a lot of cool toys.

Though, for Soundwave and Shockwave specifically, I've got those in a WFC/FOC collection.

shockblast2 wrote:Any pre 1991 toys, books, games, tv shows, movies, etc that bear the Transformers logo.
Then, what about Dreamwave's comics from 2002-2004? Or, do you not know about those either?

shockblast2 wrote:I mean, are you a geewun racist or something?
On the contrary. I grew up on the Beast Era and it still remains my favorite era of Transformers to this day.

In fact, my top 5 favorite TF cartoon series are as follows:
  • 1 - Beast Wars
  • 2 - Animated
  • 3 - Tie: Chōjin Masterforce and Rescue Bots
  • 4 - Tie: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, and Prime
  • 5 - Cybertron
But, I also have to ask you this. If there are series (like some comic series) that you don't know about, how can you say what they are or aren't without knowing about them?

shockblast2 wrote:What about G2? Why can't IDW be G2 in your eyes? By your measure it could be????
Oh, there most certainly are some aspects of G2 in the IDW comics. But they're far and few compared to their G1 elements. Not to mention that G2 as a franchise is a subset with the greater G1 continuity family, thus anything G2 is automatically also G1, just a specific portion of it. Same with the Beast Era; it too is a subsection of the G1 continuity family, or "Primax", as it is also known as.

Thus, IDW's comics from 2005 to today are Primax comics, while WFC/FOC is Aligned. :-B

Can you provide a link to any official outlet declaring that all that IDW created before 2010 automatically became one with the Aligned continuity?

Because, if not, then you'll have to explain why IDW has been largely ignoring the Aligned Continuity fiction by contradicting it and writing stories that go against Hasbro's vision for the Aligned Continuity.

I am not talking about storyline purposes ultimately. As far as aligned goes, IDW is only linked because of the borrowed designs of WFC/FOC versions. As far as their storylines, or universe as some say, they are totally seperate. IDW is not G1 as it is not Beast Wras, or any other mythos that came before or after these examples. But I am talking toys here. And thier designs have been used interchangably. Does that mean the storylines are the same or do they exist in the same universe. NO. Just like what we call G1 does not exist in the IDW version. But, does that mean it is feasable to insert a IDW Trailcutter into a FOC/WFC figure collection. YES. Why? Because they use their designs. Does geewun Hoist and IDW Hoist look the same? NO. Laughably no. Not even the cartoon. What about WFC/FOC Hoist? Never used. That is the beauty of it. IDW can feasibly be FOC/WFC Hoist. It CANNOT be geewun Hoist. Get it?

Listen, Im not ripping you for using figures from other lines for your collection. I am going to use Prime Kup w/ an I gear head in my WFC/FOC collection. But Prime is aligned, and since Sgt Kup never appeared it was easy to incorporate him. Also going to use Prime Wheeljack as my WFC/FOC collection. Why? Because his alt mode wasn't acquired on earth as he had it when he arrived AND the fact the FOC version looks almost dead like him. And it is Prime.
But these are clearly feasible. Shoe horning Enrgon Constucticons into your collection is not. That is my point. Ultimately though, the debate is just for fun. No hard feelings. You can buy whatever you wish and fill the holes in your collection with whatever. I have done it myself. How do you think I know about al those figures I mentioned?? :)
But, I gave up on that and sold it all. Kept just my WFC/FOC figures. The best part about them are that there are nno expectations of figures. If they never make an aligned Skids or Brawn, then no big deal. But Hasbro absolutely jipped the geewun fans by leaving gaping holes in thier collections due to the inability for them to recongise a secondary market for their product. I guarantee that if they alter the Kup mold for example, gave it a good head retool, some small beige wings, and a tow package it would have made an excellent Hoist. They could have took the Ironhide/Ratcher Mold and made Trailbreaker. They could have used the PCC line to make the scout minibots from seasons 1-3 rather than teasing us with a Huffer that was miscolored and had a Bayformer face. Not to mention the punch in the sack that was the cancellation pf the scout size RTS Rumble and Frenzy everyone looked forward to. Oh yeah, I know that road. Its a long and bitter highway.
Give it up and live in the now. I did.
