It's too bad Magnus himself looks like shit, because I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that hammer. Hopefully it will be available separate somehow, because I like the Hasbro hammer as well (it is the only voyager weapon that can stay open). In spite of the hammer, this version doesn't hold a candle to Hasbro's already too blue version. The TT versions is WAY TOO BLUE. Needs something to break it up. Though because all they pack in is awful looking stickers, it might work to just paint him with some more white and red details (I am thinking the whole chest needs some paint).

There's nothing original about Leo Prime (even his Micron, which is a retool of Arc), but he is GLORIOUS.
Edit: Upon further inspection, Leo Prime's Micron is Moon from Beast Wars II! And Ultra Magnus' Micron looks like Overload from Armada (who was called Ultra Magnus in Japan)!

Leo Prime... sadly doesn't have a new head, but still looks nice enough.
Aside from the new Micron and ports, Shockwave looks barely any different. His purple's almost (if not exactly) the same as the Hasbro toy's purple.
Oh, and Rated X, eat your heart out.

You and me both. But if there's any chance for a proper Prime Shickwave, as in voyager class, it'll probably be a Takara Japan exclusive like War Breakdown.
Hasbro seems to love playing it safe lately, and with Shockwave making only a very minor appearance in the series, I doubt they'll want to make a toy of him. Hell, Smokescreen had far more screen time, and look what happened to his toy.

diggin the Leo Prime repaints as well

Since he's a repaint, I wonder if he still has Thundertron's peg leg

I really like Magnus' hammer Micron, but that choice of blue really doesn't work in my book. Lion Pirate looks good in those colours, but it's no Leo Prime. And while the colours of Shockwave is an improvement, the Micron pegs on the wingtips detract just enough to make it unwanted.

Ultra Magnus: Ulma
Leo Prime: L.P.
Shockwave: Bido (from biitoru or "beetle")
I already have Shockwave, Ultra Magnus is meh though his Mini-Con Hammer rocks, but Leo Prime looks surprisingly good. And I want that bunny Micron!

Shockwave's Micron is decent. Love that it gives him a big huge chunky arm cannon, and the new purple is pretty nice. I like the new wings too, but not sold on it.
Leo Prime is made of win though. Thundertron is a great toy, and these colours look awesome on it. Add in a proper weapon, and even without the BWII homage I'm mighty tempted.

Leo Prime Lio Convoy(seriously takara, stop using our clunky english names) would have looked fantastic if he had a new head... instead he looks like Thundertron decided to put on festive colors.
Shockwave is a lost cause.

Too late. Aside from Masterpiece and Encore, Takara's been moving to use Hasbro names since 2007 in an ttamept to better unify the brand.Shadowstream wrote:Leo Prime Lio Convoy(seriously takara, stop using our clunky english names)

You want the brand to become more broken, then? They want the brand to have the same names in each market so as to create a greater sense of unity and consistency throughout the whole brand. They're even referring to classic G1 characters by their American names, like that new G1 manga that's out now calls Optimus Prime "Oputimasu Puraimu" instead of "Konboi". It's Hasbro's brand, might as well have Takara stop doing things different for the sake of difference.Shadowstream wrote:Given how they treat series like Beast Wars and Prime over there, I don't see why not.Sabrblade wrote:You want the brand to become more broken, then? And yet this disqualifies the dub of the actual series from following suit how? I know this is the wrong place for this and completely off topic, but the fact is japan treats their dubs of our shows like comedies, which is hardly unifying as far as I'm concerned.Sabrblade wrote:They want the brand to have the same names in each market so as to create a greater sense of unity and consistency throughout the whole brand. Name-wise. The dub tones differ to suit the mentality of the Japanese demographic, who generally view giant self-operated mecha robots without pilots as being kiddie. Imagine their surprise when they saw the movies.Shadowstream wrote:And yet this disqualifies the dub of the actual series from following suit how? It's practically the same shade of purple as the Hasbro version. Don't forget that these are photoshops, so there's gonna be some tinting to the image.Rated X wrote:Im very impressed with the G1 cartoon accurate colors on Shockwave, but the micron blows monkey balls.

Plus, I wouldn't quite call this closer to the G1 cartoon Shockwave than the Hasbro version

It would be a waste for them to include the cannon since the already made a Micron that was specifically designed to replace the cannon.Rated X wrote:If they dont throw in the original cannon for good measure, Ill have to use the generations version's cannon.

No, that's not what I meant. He said "original cannon," so I thought he was referring to a G1-esque cannon.

This version appears to be more of a "blueish purple" that resembles the G1 cartoon. Unlike the Hasbro version (which I own) which is more of a "reddish purple" like the G1 toy. I intend to flip the wings down (or just pop em off) and use this as my classics shockwave. The huge arm cannon (AKA micron) looks retarded.
And this is not a TF Prime mold. It is an FOC mold packaged in a Japanese TF Prime box. Whoever made that decision at Takara gets a Nobel Prize.

Posted by Sabrblade on November 16th, 2012 @ 2:30pm EST
True, but the likely reason they went ahead and used it was due to Shockwave's appearance in the cartoon necessitating them to give their market something to stand in for the absence of a proper Prime Shockwave toy.Rated X wrote:And this is not a TF Prime mold. It's close enough (color, chest, wings, cyclopic head, gun arm, etc.) to use for now in case they don't make a Prime Shockwave toy (it could happen, since they didn't make a new mold toy for Smokescreen, who's been a much bigger character in the show).
Why they aren't giving certain show characters their own molds, however, is baffling.

FOC is also in the same continuity as Prime, so this is the same guy anyway. Different suit, same psycho.

does anyone else think that the thundertron/leo prime mold would make an awesome alpha trion?
I dunno, Thundertron and Leo Prime look kind of hokey. I think it's the huge claws, translucent blue plastic, and weird thing on his back that makes Thundertron odd.
