Why is it a contraversial alt mode? Is it just because it's not G1 style?

Correct! Controversial as in; fan-boys-don't-like-new-adaptations-with-changes-even-though-it's-a-different-continuity-altogether-so-it-doesn't-really-matter-controversial!
By the way, I like the paper-truck! The photos look like CG renders, though!

The website is nonfunctional. One of those "buy this domain!" filler pages pops up.
