Under the separation agreement announced Sunday, the new company, to be led by three-time Oscar winner Spielberg and Snider, will develop a number of projects now owned by Paramount, which would have an option to co-finance and co-distribute them.
DreamWorks counts "Transformers" and "Norbit" among its recent hits.

Well that's gotta hurt.
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805890) Posted by Dark Ops on October 7th, 2008 @ 1:06pm CDT Waitwaitwait... "Norbit" was described as a "hit"? | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805914) Posted by Railspike on October 7th, 2008 @ 1:43pm CDT Will this jeopardize TF:ROTF? | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805920) Posted by Megatron Wolf on October 7th, 2008 @ 1:50pm CDT Well that blows. And since when was norbit a hit? I thought it tanked. | |

That's exactly what I was thinking...I thought anything with Eddie murphy in it anymore was automatically destined to bomb at the box office.
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805925) Posted by dragons on October 7th, 2008 @ 2:00pm CDT that does suck so whats going to happen with ind jones movie if theres going to be sequel transformers.......... could be too late to do anything about it? haha norbit a big hit i thougt it was ok but not enough where it would make an impact pluto nash was better than norbit. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805929) Posted by GuyIncognito on October 7th, 2008 @ 2:04pm CDT
No, and the subject line "Steven Spielberg Splits!" is totally misleading. He's splitting from Paramount, but part of the deal is that he will continue to be Executive Producer on the TF films.
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (805931) Posted by Malikon on October 7th, 2008 @ 2:05pm CDT eh, it doesn't effect the movie. can't believe Norbit was classed together along with The Transformers. Norbit was an awful, almost unwatchable movie. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (806056) Posted by NuclearConvoy on October 7th, 2008 @ 4:35pm CDT Norbit, a hit, who the hell actually SAW that? | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (806180) Posted by tigertracks 24 on October 7th, 2008 @ 6:39pm CDT
It's not misleading, he has split from Paramount, except on a few shared properties, which I believe was stated in the article. I no way did I say he split from being the TRANSFORMERS producer, in fact, my goal was to show that despite him leaving Paramount, he was still going to be a part of TRANSFORMERS.
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (806401) Posted by T-Macksimus on October 7th, 2008 @ 9:11pm CDT It's about time in my opinion. Paramount was really just a means to an end for him anyway. He's big enough in his own right that he really shouldn't need to deal with Paramount, Universal or others. Dreamworks should be able to cover everything: Production, post-production and on down to distribution. Spielberg and Lucas are the 2 most powerful men in the industry so anybody worried about the effects of the split on TF2 or TF3 really shouldnt worry. If either of those men has a project or series of projects in the works, nobody else really has the stones to interfere or have a drastic effect on it. If Spielberg were at all concerned he wouldn't have done it right in the middle of TF2. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (806578) Posted by omega666 on October 8th, 2008 @ 1:42am CDT I believe that the bigger news is that Norbit was a HIT. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (806647) Posted by Asphalt22 on October 8th, 2008 @ 6:25am CDT Spielberg starting his own company? Gee who didnt see that coming? But Norbit a Hit, now that one took me by surprise. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (807169) Posted by rhinox555 on October 8th, 2008 @ 5:26pm CDT I find it offensive that so many Americans think they live in the only country on earth. Norbit scored well outside America because we don't hate black people as much as your average american does, it's not rocket science. (Not sayin' racism ain't a issue here, we're just mostly pissed off at other ethnic minorities.) Either way, i do agree Norbit still doesnt compare to TF's success. | |
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (807217) Posted by NuclearConvoy on October 8th, 2008 @ 6:17pm CDT
Wow, see, I never would have associated people thinking Norbit being a hit a surprise with racism...I'd associate it more with the fact that it looked like an absolutely mind numbing piece of crap.
| Re: Steven Spielberg Splits! (811670) Posted by T-Macksimus on October 13th, 2008 @ 2:22pm CDT I've got to agree with Nuclear Convoy. The movie just did not grab anyones interest here in the states. Race really isn't much of an issue here anymore, it's more about attitude and content of character when it comes to dealing with other people. Of course there are those like myself who have a very universal viewpoint. I'm not racist, sexist or prone to discriminating on any other level...I'm an A**hole thefore I hate everybody equally! | |
