7 out of these 11 would seem to be lacking something if not followed up with an MP of the lieutenant(s) they combine with. Or is the idea that the choice actually determines the next 2 or 3 MPs? I haven't been following this.
Posted by Rushie on June 18th, 2013 @ 11:35am CDT
The other seven (BW, Lion Convoy, Big Convoy, RID, Armada, Energon, Cybertron) all have pretty good figures already. I guess Armada could use some more articulation. But otherwise they seem like a waste of a Masterpiece slot.

1) Only one character per ballot
2) Do NOT give your return address, otherwise the votes will be rendered invalid.
I can't tell if there's a restriction on the amount of points you can actually put on the ballot.
Yes, one character per postcard. Since these are postcards, it seems that no return address or name is required, which makes sense since it is a vote and not a correspondence.
The instructions say to print it out on A4 sized paper, cut along the lines then fold it in half and glue it together to form the postcard. And of course to fill it out and use appropriate postage.
Deadline is the 31. of August

Lackadaisical wrote:Surely someone said this before, but I think this time the votes aren't to define a new mold, but only to people choose which is the next figure to be released as an "asia exclusive" masterpiece, meaning, same treat which has had movie leader Bumbblebee or Movie Leader Starscream or movie leader Brawl most recently. But I really don't think they're serioulsy planning on a new mold based on these votes. Just what I think.
really not sure what makes you think that. Besides, the Japanese text clearly says something about the masterpiece series. Your talking about the premiums. Brawl was released under the premium label. Bumblebee and Starscream were 'movie masterpieces' and were not fancy re-decos to the Japanese-it was the only way they were being released there at all. If I end up being wrong, feel free to slap me, but a few weeks ago we did see that boardroom/ brainstorming photograph of designers fiddling with the original toys of Ginrai and Saber and had sketch designs for Ginrai's head on a white board. Non of that is needed if they just re-paint an existing mold.
I'm having difficulty seeing why so many people are finding it hard to grasp (from responses on a previous thread) that this is TTs way of celebrating the 30th anniversary of the franchise with a special one-off MP figure. Why be such grouches? So it's a giant list of Primes. Japan love their commanders, so why can't TT celebrate in their own way?
What would we all think if a bunch of Japanese fans hounded our Botcon hall of fame because not once has Star Sabre, Dai Atlas or any other Japanese character been nominated (and is very VERY unlikely to be anytime soon)?
If I end up being wrong, I'll happily put my hand up to it.

You can say that for Armada Prime too, except the articulation.
Like I said before doing MP's of those characters would be wasting development time.
Even though recently I saw a custom MP Primal. It looked pretty awesome.
But I feel like the ones who deserve a Masterpiece are Powermaster Prime, Fortress Maximus (even though he's been recently reissued, it would still be SICK... two headmasters on an MP?), Dai Atlas, and Star Sabre.
Hey I actually would want to see all of those characters have a Masterpiece. That would probably take 7 years though.

Super Fire Convoy, Galaxy Convoy, and Beast Wars Telemocha Series Convoy (who IMO, already works great enough for a "MP Optimus Primal" in terms of size, deco, and mold), for instance, are some of the best Convoy toys we've ever gotten.

The only non G1 character I would like to see is Galaxy Force Convoy, but lets face it, his toy is pretty good anyway, and G1 figures are the ones that look the best and need an MP overhaul to realise there true potential.
If they make Star Sbare it's lining up a victory Leo and therefor a Victory Sabre so that would be a great one. Also God Ginrai especialy if they make a God Bomber too, woul dbe great, I hope it would be based more on the anime version with better proportioned legs as the main problem with the toy wa sthe akward legs and even that box art rendering isn't great. Dai Atlas is ok, I had the toy and he had a weird head, but an MP version could solve that, but still, his alt mode isn't great and the colours and overall asthetics aren't the best in the line up. I had a knock off version, so maybe that has tainted my opinion but it was pretty close, and looking at the colours they were the same, but its the design features like the wings an dthat, usualy I like wings on a robot like the seekers, etc but they were a hiderance aon the toy and overall, I just don't have a yerning to see this charcter brought MP standards, but if it's Dai Atlas or a non G1 character then I would go with Dai Atlas.
So my vote is definetly Star Sabre or God Ginrai, both will lead to extra MPs such as Victory Leo and God Bomber, and they will make for great visualy appealing creations.

Currently, Star Saber is in the lead.
2nd place is currently occupied by Micron Densetsu Convoy, with Dai Atlas in 3rd place.
These are not the winners, just the current leaders in the poll.

I would love to see a Micron Densetsu Convoy in MP form.

Here's a list of all the characters in the running:
- Fortress Maximus
- Super Ginrai
- Star Saber
- Dai Atlas
- Convoy (Beast Wars)
- Lio Convoy
- Big Convoy
- Superfire Convoy
- Micron Convoy
- Grand Convoy
- Galaxy Convoy

So could the runner-ups also receive MP toys?

Of those, I'd have to say that I only want Primal or RiD Optimus.
Star Saber would be okay, too, I suppose. Just anything but a 'fortress-former'.

Agreed. The time it takes to display a prototype of the figure after announcing the winner will be what really tells us how this went down.

Agreed with both datguy86 and El Duque.
Considering that it takes 2+ years for the average Transformer toy development cycle, a toy with Masterpiece level design and engineering isn't going to be simply made and brought to market without significant planning.
Unless the "winning" choice is slated for release in mid to late 2015 at the earliest, I'd say that the MP toy was already in development.

Because I expected Star Saber to be #1. Holy grail factor + possibly Victory add-ons. Surprised I was right about Dai Atlas, as I based that on lack of reissue + being the last animated Supreme Commander in the Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers toyline. But "Micron Dentsu" Convoy getting the #2 slot so far? Not final, and Star Saber might win. But Mindmaster said it best when it comes to the "nostalgia" factor.
Also, I am assuming that Lio Convoy did not make the top 5 slot. Would not be surprised if (Beast) Convoy made it to #4. But when it comes to the prototypes, I bet that they made scaled down versions in advance. Because that is what they did in preparation for the Binaltech/Alternity version of Smokescreen. That, or study the Robot Master figures.
Either way, I need to see how I feel about collecting when the winner is up for preorder.

This is pretty much the same deal as the poll on Windblade: they wouldn't put this much love, and let the fanbase have a hand in choosing the next MP figure, just to make it a retool of an existing MP and making it exclusive.

Blurrz wrote:Much of the grief of not liking the new Armada Starscream Deluxe figure is that there is no Swindle.
I know, that really irked me. The toy looks fantastic, but it feels incomplete without the addition of Swindle. I'm sure some third party companies have heard our plight and are already in the developmental phase of making a little Swindle for Starscream.

100% agreed. Between the fact that this is the 30th anniversary piece, fans are spending money on figures in hopes of having their votes count, and that these characters cannot be based on any pre-existing molds... There is no chance or merit that they will cut corners and turn a "MP-10" Convoy into a Star Saber, Dai Atlas, etc.
Ironically, though, G-2 Battle Convoy was a form reused for Beast Convoy in Beast Wars Reborn. But, then again, that story was also based in the Micron Trilogy universe.

However, Galvatron was not a Cybertron Supreme Commander that appeared in any of the pre-merger series. However, be patient. They might do either a "Generations" incarnation before they decide to do a Masterpiece version of the other major 2010 characters.

It doesn't matter much anyways. Being in the States I'm not likely to lay my hands on one anytime soon, not unless I'm willing to pay some exorbitant price for it.

I'm hoping Dai Atlas gets it. If it has to be a Prime, I'd just as soon see Lio or the Cybertron incarnation get it but they aren't in the running.

Fort Max is normal-guy size in the IDW comics, so there is precedent.

Fort Max would be too big and too expensive. It's a nice fantasy idea to get a 5 foot tall Fort Max but it's just not in the cards. This is the choice that makes me think this whole list is BS because there's no way this one would happen.
Beast Convoy seems like an obvious choice at some point with the natural progression of the line, especially if Beast Megatron accompanies him. While it seems like an obvious choice, I don't think Beast Convoy is a good 30th Anniversary figure.
While I'd love to see Masterpiece versions of Star Saber and Dai Atlas, I think I'd like to see their G1 toys reissued first. I also don't think either of those characters are recognizable enough to the general public to be good choices.
I'm not sure how Lio Convoy and Big Convoy got on this list. I love those guys but they would be way down the list of figures that need the Masterpiece treatment. Plus you can't do Lio Convoy or Big Convoy before you do Beast Convoy. Two more choices on this list that I think were there just to pad out the list.
As for Car Robots Fire Convoy, this could be a really, really nice toy if they did a super realistic fire truck. I think this would be the 2nd choice I'd put money on. Give me a Masterpiece God Magnus that can actually combine with Fire Convoy and I think many of us would be super excited about this. However, the size comes into mind again because of how large the originals were, so that makes me skeptical about this possibility.
Micron Legends, Superlink and Galaxy Force Convoys are way too recent of figures/characters to get a Masterpiece treatment. I'd be really disappointed if Superlink Grand Convoy got the treatment, because, well, it's not the greatest toy or concept for Transformers. If I wanted toys like that, I'd be into Voltron (which I'm not into). Galaxy Convoy is the only one of these 3 that I'd be interested in seeing a Masterpiece treatment of, but again, the toy is too recent and the original one is a pretty awesome toy to begin with. And like the Car Robots Fire Convoy, I'd be concerned about the size of this toy if it's truly a Masterpiece.
Super God Ginrai / Powermaster Optimus Prime is the only one of these that I can truly get behind for a 30th Anniversary product.

most of the list is BS and I sure hope it won't be a beastformer.
So I'd put my money on Car Robot Fire Convoy or Armada Prime...
but of course, no Jazz yet
