The ultimate question though is: Is he in scale with the other MPs? They said he's a little taller than Ultra Magnus but is that accurate to the cartoon? I haven't been able to find any size references to confirm this.

It's hard to say. The best option from the toons is to compare Sixshot and Magnus from the Headmasters series, and then compare Star Saber and Greatshot, a recolor of Sixshot, from the Victory series.

Or just take some aspirin and lie down before thinking of scale again... 8-}

I just had a thought. Could there be a possibility of a Masterpiece Victory Leo? ¿Podría ser?

Star Saber is more of a one-off thing in celebration of the thirthieth anniversary. However, it's basically a given that if Takara is unwilling to give Victory Leo the Masterpiece treatment, then third party companies will step up to the challenge. There's also the possibility of backwards compatibility with the original Victory Victory Leo, but as several individuals have pointed out, combination with the twenty-year-old toy would probably be too great a risk.

I feel like I'm way more okay with the idea of a tail-end G1 figure combining with a Masterpiece homage than I should be. I admit it would be a pretty cool way to bridge the lines, especially for the Japanese 30th. Heck, it's been done with Skoponok and Cerebros. I'm even more okay with it if it results in both Victory Leo and Star Saber getting re-issues.

Let's say, go.

Sadly, it looks like he won't be.

In the Victory cartoon, Star Saber was gestalt-sized, whereas this toy looks like it'll be slightly taller than MP Ultra Magnus, who will be about two heads taller than MP-10:

Thus, Star Saber likely, yet unfortunately, won't be as giant as he was in the cartoon:

Going by memory here:

StarSaber= Slightly larger than GodGinrai
Regular Ginrai= Approx/Same size as Optimus = Mp-10
GinraiSuperMode is at least twice as tall if scaled correctly.

So yeah, he's not in scale, but an impressive size nonetheless.

Can't wait till he's released, for me scale doesn't matter, especially since he's a special one off
Re: Takara Tomy Masterpiece Star Saber Size Comparison Image (1597282)
Posted by mcfmullen on August 7th, 2014 @ 9:05am CDT
Well if he is gestalt size, I wouldn't expect him to be in scale, but I would hope he is relatively close. For example, MP-08 Grimlock isn't "in scale" but is so close it might as well be considered as such. One head height isn't an end-all-be-all. Same with MP-09.

However, from the looks of the screenshots, wheeljack and sideswip are just a little taller than Star Saber's knees. Since both are about MP-10 waist height and Star Saber will be about 3 heads taller than optimus (one taller than magnus) I'd think the scale is close enough.

Yeah, I starting to think that he might at least look close to show scale with the MP Autobot Cars, especiaaly after seeing this pic of Saber (not Star Saber, but his standard robot form Saber) standing next to MP Prowl:

As Prowl was about the same height as Perceptor (according to the official G1 scale guide), who was about the same height as Saber.

I can't wait to see final shots of Star Saber. I was never much into the japanese G1, but the toy itself looks pretty good just to pose on a shelf. That MP Magnus looks hideous, but that Prowl looks pretty good. I was on the fence about him, but I might just have to pick him up. G1 Prowl was my 1st ever TF toy, and I haz teh nostalgiks.

Could very well be. Among the confirmed existing prototypes I see:

- BW Neo Unicron (named Neo Unicron)
- Binaltech/Alternator Jazz as a Porsche 986
- Binaltech Black Widow / Rumble? (ended up as BT Arcee)

I also spot:

- Blue Henkei Bumble
- A Swindle redeco of Universe Hound

That's the third Microchange Gun Robo. Two of the Gn Robo, the Walther P38 and M1910 Browning, were turned into Megatron and Browning but the third, a S&W .44 Magnum Revolver, was Microman only.
And that "techno-color" Devastator? His first Diaclone deco ;)

Each pic of star saber just makes me want him more. That diaclone display is wonderful, I even spotted the trainbots who didn't get released (in Japan) till the Headmasters toyline, although who's the red bot just to the left of powered convoy Magnus? Did diaclone have any fiction at all to go with it?

Diaclone did get somewhat of a story during the later years, basically humans versus the insectoid Waruder race. That's right: the Insecticons were bad guy mecha
That red robot is Powered Buggy, you can consider it an upgraded transforming Roller. He was omitted from all Transformer releases.

Thanks :D I've always wondered about diaclone, never expected that the insecticons were the main bars  Seems a bit unfair when you line them up against each other.

That unicron, as impressive as it is, why does everyone go crazy about it? People talk about the Armada mold having it's planet shell on its back, Neo Unicron has a whole half of a planet on his back. :???: I know it's the 3rd prototype of a unicron toy (I think at least), the robot mode is nice if you ignore the kibble but I think the one we actually got is better...Why do I get the feeling I've just painted a target on my back...

That would be Super Buggy/Powered Buggy (depending on the region of release and how he was released):

It came with the Diaclone Powered Convoy as Powered Buggy, but when released individually by GiG it was called Super Buggy.

I really like MP Star Saber. Yeah the forearms are big, but it's not too bad.

Very happy to see the MP Ultra Magnus in these pictures has the blue lower inner legs, the red we have seen in some promo pics look hideous. That gives me hope that the final product will have cartoon accurate colours in botmode.

Have these been seen before? I definitely have never seen that alternate Rodimus base.

Back on track love how this guy turned out. Hope he sells really well, well enough to warrant looking at a G1 re-issue.

I also wonder how Hasbro will market this guy if they also decide to release him.

Star Saber's looking very nice. So far so good. Too bad we American Transformers fans rarely got any exposure to him or any of the other Japanese characters when it came to the Takara series. God Ginrai was just a different character who had the body of Powermaster Prime. Well, at least we had Wing Saber in Energon who was an homage to Star Saber. As for some of the prototypes, that Porsche Jazz looks like it could've been an awesome figure 10 years ago.
