Takara Tomy Transformers DOTM Megatron: Dark Energon Edition

Yeah.... But I still want this! I liked the ROTF Megatron, but I missed out on it. Then the Shadow Command Megatron came out and it was 10000 times more badass! This one looks every bit as awesome, but with purple instead of red! I want it!

Well I dont give a damn that it's just a repaint but I still want him cause I missed out on him thinking there might be a new Leader class Megs and chances are we will never get one this year or the next year either -_-...

He should've been in DOTM colors, so sand/rusty like.
And they should've also remolded that horrible left skinny squid thing. Maybe add the boomstick.

Still can't believe how they screwed up the DOTM line, with those horrible completely NOT screen accurate weapons.

Jetwing Prime, Ultimate Prime, Voyager Prime, not one of them looks like DOTM Prime. Sigh, I give up. ROTF might've been the way lesser movie but the toyline was way better.

close but no cigar. we wanted something like the voyager DOTM megatron only bigger.

I was trying to come up with a witty dis of the movie line but than I thought %@#$ it.....

What's got me befuddled is that this seems like it's suddenly trying to introduce Dark Energon into the Movieverse.

I actually like how it looks, but not enough to import it.

Admittedly, I may just be starved for a decently-sized TF: Prime Megs. Can we get some Decepticons at the Weaponizer size?

Well, we may not get DOTM Megs or Shockwave in LC, but we will get G1 edition SCreamer and this. Thank you Takara , you made me more loyal to you than the Bumblebee loving Hasbroke , because I knew the DOTM line is still alive in Asia.

Anyway, did you guys know he's based on his Prime counterpart's DE repaint?

Looks cool.The only qestion remaining is if he speaks "I'm MEGATRON! or THERE"S NO COMANND BUT MINE!

Or they could give him the European voice chip. Unlike most other electronic Movieverse toys where every line but their name got snipped. ("Jetfi-" "-tarscream!") Megatron dropped the "I am" but got an awesome laugh more evil than the Animated Leader.

Or, they could give him a new chip with a DotM quote to complete the trifecta of Megatrons. (though all represented by a single mold) Good lines would be:

- *grwll* All hail Megatron!
- You know what you are told, which is nothing!
- He is my greatest triumph...
- Here we are... fight us now!
- YOU DARE LECTURE ME, SLAVE?
- It will be me, it will always be me!

Dang,now you made want it to happen.

It looks awesome...and then I remembered the arm. A couple of good arms and he'd be a kick-ass bot. Maybe a good base for someone to customise an IDW "rebuilt" Megatron or DJD Tarn?

The folks over on the Planet Iacon facebook page have posted some new images of the recently revealed Takara Tomy Transformers DOTM Dark Energon Edition Megatron, a repaint of ROTF Leader Class Megatron. Images mirrored below:

that is a really nice repaint. but the mold is still crap.

That mold needs a lot more than a good paint job to look good.

I don't own this mold, and I LOVE this new color scheme. I'm a sucker for the black-purple-silver combination. I hope this gets a domestic release (which I doubt), but I'll import if the price isn't prohibitive.

I'm really liking this paint scheme! If it ever comes domestic I may bite, but I doubt that'll happen.

Even though the dark energon makes no sense (movie wise), I gotta say... This is the superior color scheme of all the RotF Leader Megatrons, he look's awesome!

Love the colors, hate the mold! Would love to seen the colors on a update leader class version of Megatron, but not this. Oh well, money goes to something else.

I wouldn't mind seeing it on the voyager mold.

Goofy crab claw aside, that was a decent rendition of the character.

So the packaging is a hybrid between the DOTM design (background, logo, color scheme, aesthetics) and ROTF (text details, information, gimmick promotion). Neat. That makes his a unique, custom packaging.

Despite a hard to make mold, Takara made this paint job the greatest!

Why doesn't some third party company make a set of arms for this mold. I bet it would sell like hot cakes. You can mark me down for 3.

I already have the Shadow Command version of this mold so I doubt I'll be getting this one, but it does look spiffy.

Pretty much stating the obvious, but it's the arms that ruin the ROTF LC Megatron toy; and that's not something a bit of silver and purple paint can fix.

The paint looks so awesome.

That looks great! Even next to ROTF Megatron which had a good color set, I have the Takara one but there is hardly a difference between that one and the Hasbro one.

Very tempted to get one, with the G1 Leader Ironhide (mediocre mold but the paint makes it good enough).

I wish Voyager Shockwave's head was a bit bigger, but I'll slap it on that Megatron anyway. He soooo looks like Shockwave.

Why didn't Takara just upscale the hell out of DOTM Voyager Megatron? I mean, they did it with deluxe WFC Soundwave, and I really like Voyager DOTM Megz.

I'd be almost as happy if they'd release a DMK DOTM Megs. A non-transforming figure would be able to capture all of his CG render's rusty, rugged detail. I know many don't like the irony of non-transforming TF figures, but in the case of Bayverse designs, it's excusable due to all the details and added accuracy you get from it.

Shockwave would make the perfect DMK, though, since he doesn't even transform in DOTM.

Even know he looks nice in these colors this is total bullshit. This isn't what he looked like in dotm why can we get a leaderclass of what he looked like in DOTM instead of repaints of ROTF figures.

ha! if someone at Hasbro thinks villains don't sell well, they should have a word with the guys in the GI Joe and Star Wars departments, and ask for numbers on Vipers and Storm Troopers.

It's an absolute mystery to me why Hasbro thinks like that.

It's not even "traditional" marketing, because villains have always been cooler than the good guys. I'll bet dollars to doughnut holes that Vader gets at least twice the amount of figures and merchandise made compared to Luke Skywalker. Even as a kid, I've always favored the G1 Decepticons like Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream over the Autobots.

I'm not saying kids will choose Megatron over Optimus, but villains (the cool ones, at least) can and do sometimes outsell the good guys as toys.

And someone please knock Bumblebee off of Leader Class and give it back to Megatron!

Of course, I always wanted a team, but if they'd stop short-packing the 'cons, maybe they'd get more money from kids and adults alike.

That's why I'm glad Wave 3, 4 & 5 of Prime and Wave 2 of FoC Generations are mostly (or entirely, in FoC W2's case) Decepticons. But of course, they have to be sheepish in distributing those waves.

And let's not forget that Bee's way out of scale as a leader class toy. I know scale is almost an afterthought as far as TF's are concerned, but at least keep him in relative scale, for Pete's sake.

I do not favor the thought of the same character being released in 3 different scales. That's why I don't collect legion classes. I like characters to have one toy of one character in one class, and it better be in the right class. I also don't like "Shadow Strike" and "Nightwatch" and "Super Thingamabob" titles for the same damn character. If you're going to make a repaint, at least named it something different. Or retool it.

But of course, they gave all of this up around Cybertron. Granted, the legion class of Cybertron was rather small. The movies ruined everything for us.

Agreed. I'm probably one of the few adult collectors who actually likes movieverse Bee, but I've never bought any "non-canon" version of Bee. Ever. To me, it's just a lazy way of milking a mold.

At least in G1, the repaints are actually their own characters.
