And while TRU AU continue to hold the monopoly on imported MP's (Hasbro AU have been looking at trying to get other retailers on-boar) they'll continue to jack up the prices to insane levels.
It's no wonder then that they don't seem to sell well.

And the price Burn is quoting is simply ATROCIOUS! But given it's Australia, they tax like everything right? A cradle to grave socialist system( where does the funds come from.taxes and more taxes) where the government handles like everything(?). Please feel free to correct me Burn.

Burn wrote:Tax has nothing to do with this price, it's simply TRU's price gouging.
What percentage of the price is tax aside from the prerequisite TRU bloodprice gouging?12%? or higher?
Another thing. Why does TRU even try? Do those items even sell given the price range they are offering?

There MAY be customs fees involved, but I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of what they would be as Hasbro AU brings them into the country and then distributes them to TRU. I'm not even sure where the English instructions are packed, whether it's done in the factory or done once they land in Australia.

Forgot about that. Customs and shipping plus their profit margins. Means that there really is a limited market for these type of collectibles.

What's the AU dollar going for right now? THe Canadian dollar is about .25 less than the American.

The AU dollar is doing as bad as ours and the exchange is about the same so tracks here is 150$ cdn. Still wish we had it in stores at that price?

I regularly visit TRU just to browse & clear my head, but it makes less & less sense to actually buy from there. When I did succumb to an impulse buy last year, it turned out that I had foolishly bought approximately 3/4 a Superion & 1/3 of a Menasor.
I checked back relentlessly for MONTHS at several TRU stores just so that I could COMPLETE the damn gestalt figures, but after actually speaking with TRU management, I finally discovered that Combiner Wars Wave 2 was being completely bypassed! Apparently they had no intention of EVER stocking that wave, so in the end I had no other option but to buy online to complete the sets!
When I next checked TRU, just the other day in fact, there were still one or two token Wave 1 shelfwarmers remaining behind the new stock, which was essentially half a Bruticus & a pile of Hotspots (no other Protectobots; ready to screw over the next poor sap to buy an incomplete set).
Masterpiece editions I NEVER even CONSIDER buying from bricks-and-mortar stores. Ultra Magnus is still on sale here for $299 AUD, with (unsurprisingly) plenty in stock many months after release. Now they're saying Tracks is here & I should what, celebrate? I purchased Tracks online months ago for about $60 AUD with free postage; it arrived from Asia within 4 days of placing the order.
With all that in mind, what possible incentive is there for me or anyone to buy off the shelf? Aside from charging almost triple the price, I have to consider the prospect that NOT buying online as soon possible after a figure is released may result in me missing out on that figure entirely.
By the time TRU informs customers as to whether or not they will even bother to stock an item, that item may already be sold out online & thus impossible to obtain - this is exactly how I missed MP-10 Optimus Prime, even after the bastards at TRU ASSURED me they'd be receiving stock (thankfully, HAS/TAK did another production run, so I could dry my tears &... STILL not see it available at retail). Again, if I hadn't bought MP-10 online, I'd have missed him a second time.
Anyway, in conclusion to this arbitrarily (unintentionally) long, whining, tantrum/essay, TRU management should stop circle jerking around their $100-bill-used-as-kindling campfires & give me what I want. If they want to have sadistic exclusivity when it comes to Transformers, at least give the customer OPTIONS. And reasonable prices. And a sandwich. A beer wouldn't be bad either.

Should have added this to my earlier anti-TRU hissy-fit message lol... But what you need is a support buddy in a different market zone. I live in Australia, ordering from Asia is very quick (usually less than a week) & postage is usually free. You should look into contact with someone here who can buy your items cheap & then just forward them on to you via post, I'm sure it'd be MUCH cheaper for you.

Also, I can't quite make it out, but could that possibly be a tiny Soundwave? Please???

It's evil because they can't afford the insurance

In Japanese, "Garry" was used to describe any type of larger carrier vehicle and more often than not, bigger mecha have words associated with royalty or other persons in power, like "Caesar", "Kaiser", "-Jin" (meaning "god"), or "-Oh" (meaning "King").
So no, they're not as random as you may think, just creatively bankrupt
And add another new character to the G1 Universe. btw Does anybody find it odd they're now using Masterpiece for that instead of G1 reissues?

"Dai"? It sure does, it usually means "Big", but more abstractly it means "Great" or "Grand". It's often used in combination with "-Oh".

You're spelling "Dai Atlas" and "Daigunder" wrong, but "Diaclone" is correct. According to FunPub, Diaclone comes from "diamond" and "cyclone" (hence the "Cymond" universe for anything pre-TF related), but I think they were grasping at straw there

Not really - Takara has to pay for those officially licensed vehicles somehow. Looking at other officially licensed lines; like the live-action movie toys, each release is (excluding exclusives) wide and readily available. MPs likely do not have a wide release, considering MP releases have had re-releases to meet demand. Loud Pedal may be a show-exclusive, but that show's cash helps pay for the use of the Corvette design. This is likely why we haven't seen a Sunstreaker release. Takara would probably have to pay separate to use even a slightly different version of the Lambo design.
This is also why I thought it odd we got Tigertracks so soon. Not just the ability to sell a different character, but something which could fill in as a potential Sunstreaker. See also the red 'Bee release. Definitely not Cliffjumper, but CJ does have a history of being a red Bumblebee.
I'd have to check, but didn't Binaltech/Alternators also feature a lot of odd choices for releases? Like Shockwave, Ravage and the like. It's all speculation, but I think trying to pay for those licensed modes is the largest factor here.

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:According to FunPub, Diaclone comes from "diamond" and "cyclone" (hence the "Cymond" universe for anything pre-TF related), but I think they were grasping at straw there
They probably were. "Daiya" (ダイア) means diamond, but the clone part is probably just a reference to them looking like real cars. Also, the first three syllables in Diaclone (ダイアクロン) and Dai Atlas (ダイアトラス) are the same in Japanese. Just the "dai" portion on its own doesn't mean anything, but dai (だい) is an entirely different word that can be used to describe something's power level (or the level of anything really) so in all likelihood the use of the Japanese word diamond to spell Dai Atlus rather than だい is probably a Japanese word play.
BTW, jin doesn't mean god, it means something closer to people or being (in Japanese the DBZ Saiyans are spelled out Saiya-jin). God is kami. Incidentally, God Ginrai uses a westernized "goddo" (ゴッ) in his name because it's meant to be a play on Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla) if you remove the correct syllables (Go* Gi*ra*).

Because Road Rage wasn't an exclusive, Loud Pedal is.
