The end of January is almost near and Encore Big Convoy from Beast Wars Neo will be here soon! Thanks to Nathaniel Prime on the forums for pointing out a new set of stock images of Big Convoy in box showing up on Robotkingdom.com. As a followup to our first look at the box from Tokyo Comic Con in December, the new stock images include shots from the side and full back. While the front and left side is pretty similar to the original box, the back has been entirely redone for the Encore version. The figure on the box has been updated to the new version and they even changed the CG art on the front to match the cartoon colors of the figure.
For comparison below you'll find the new stock images followed by the original packaging (featuring Black Big Convoy) from the Seibertron gallery.

It's an Ultra class figure, but a bit shorter than the original 1996 Ultra class Beast Wars Optimus Primal, and in turn shorter than Leader class ROTF Optimus Prime.Nathaniel Prime wrote:A noob question I'm sure, but just how big is this figure? Compared to my ROTF Leader?

He’s about the same size as Car Robots Gigatron, Universe Powerglide and Hardhead/Onslaught, errrrrr...Transmetal Rampage and Depthcharge, bauhhhhhh that’s all I got.

Smaller. Between voyager and leader class.

Thank you all for your wonderful answers. Wish I had an Ultra class figure to properly compare, but I get the idea (although I might get Universe Ultra Class Onslaught tho, seems badass for 15$)

Skritz wrote:You know, I've been tempted to get this guy purely because I think he looks cool and because he's a 'good guy faction leader' from the Beast Era, not to mention one who hasn't gotten a new toy. I just wonder how well the mold hold up, given it was arguably pretty weak in terms of transformation, being a shellformer and all that.
I just got the Universe Nemesis Prime Version for Chrimbo, and I gotta say he certainly looks good on the shelf. If you take off all the beast mode kibble he’s kinda on the skinny side, but if you leave it all on it’ll hinder movement a bit, mostly in the legs department. And it’s really a little bit, like I probably shouldn’t even have called it into question little. However, I always get a cloak/robe/cowl vibe with all the kibbles and bits on him.
His robot mode legs are very Gundam-esque, and I love that about this guy. I will say I think the Big Convoy deco is more striking, and if you do end up getting him I don’t think you’ll regret him.

I'm actually kicking myself for not getting the club Ultra Mammoth when it went on sale at resellers.

That’s true, at least his trunk/tusks has a play feature? But mammoth mode *not* the mode mine spent most of his time in.
I think one thing that was cool about him (Nemesis) at least.... was with that big chunky Mammoth brick.... you could see him stopping bots in tracks, or flipping/impaling them on the tusks.
If I had to with “semi truck” mammoth would have been the first alternative. (Unless someone really wants a blue whale Transformer)

Mammoths weren't known for their articulation anyway.

What do you think of Encore Big Convoy? Is this the ultimate version of this Takara Tomy original mold? Will you be picking one up for yourself for the first time, or perhaps upgrading from your original version with this more anime-accurate paint job? it's amazing how well some of the Beast Wars era toys still stand up to today's standards.

I can agree with the shortest and how I wish he was bigger.
But holy cows, love this guy. I also love the color scheme, that red, yellow, and white really pop with that Wolly Mammoth coat!

Me too. It's a cool enough mold to make me want more of it. I've already got this Encore version and two of Ultra Mammoth. I plan to get Big's dad Blue Big Convoy eventually, but tracking down any other older versions like Black Big Convoy and Universe Nemesis Prime may be more long-term goals than not.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Sabrblade wrote:It is a very cool mold.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Hot. damn.

Though, with this Encore, I don't feel the need to get the original.

The product is not finished, as written in the japanese text, so they probably just used a toy they had to modify and show for display.

it's in 参考出品 state, meaning nothing is confirmed. It's more of an idea pitch than a preview really... There's a good chance that this might never even get released unfortunately. Hope they decide to release it though!

I wish it was a tease for an MP. But the funny thing is, the new MP Lio convoy and MP Primal are perfectly in scale with the original Big Convoy, so I'm not sure if we will get an MP of him, especially since he did just get his encore

Yeah and besides that, what is there to improve upon the original when it is already a pretty dynamic mold as is?D-Maximal_Primal wrote:SpikeyTigertron wrote:So it occurred to me that the tubes connect to the little gattling guns on the waist piece... so it's "not new" after scrutinizing it. In Japan, this release will only be available through the Takara Tomy Mall site for 9,720 Yen (around he $90 USD price point) since it is their exclusive. It will surely be available outside of Japan for international customers and we will update you when that happens but at least now you know what you'd be paying for it. It is to be released at the end of February.

Think Takara's trying to get the total number of Big Convoy reissues up to Lio Convoy's number of repaints before he gets a Masterpiece toy too?
Posted by Sabrblade on September 2nd, 2019 @ 10:33pm CDT
Dunno about Big Convoy getting a MP, as the Encore and this other reissue were both done to celebrate 20th anniversary of Beast Wars Neo, while Lio Convoy's MP is part of the whole brand's 35th anniversary.Bumblevivisector wrote:Ah, so I won't be buying the exact same mold yet again just to get these new accessories. Plus, the original Big Convoy mold is already perfectly in scale with both the Optimus Primal and Lio Convoy MP molds.

Up first, we have an image of the sample packaging for the figure. The packaging is new and is not based on either his original toy packaging or prior Encore packaging. The packaging has an image of Big Convoy wielding his BFG in full wonderful new artwork glory.
And finally, in conjunction with the new packaging images, we have a new interview with the Takara Tomy design team behind the figure. The interview, in Japanese, can be found HERE, and we will highlight some of the main talking points below. Of note is the interview includes some images of the prototype and the collapsible Matrix.
Check it all out below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
-The Matrix Buster can work with any version of the Big Convoy mold
-The Matrix itself is newly molded to collapse and fit into the Buster, just like the cartoon
-Takara was trying to have this accessory package ready for the original Encore release, but they didn't make it in time
-Takara tried their hardest to align the toys molding with what was in the cartoon
-The Matrix Buster package wasn't given to the Anime release because it would have been possibly too costly to market, so the Anime colors were prioritized
-Big Blue Convoy was released to help offset the cost of updating the molding as well
-The popularity of Big Blue and Anime Convoy helped the team raise the funds to release this new Matrix Buster version
-The Matrix Buster was originally intended to be released in 1999 during the cartoon, during which Big Convoy would have had the Matrix Buster attached to his "prosthetic" left arm (in the cartoon). With the scrapping of the Unicron toy, the cartoon was altered and the Matrix Buster never made it out
