Yuki's at it again, firing up his camera and tweeting his newest in hand previews of upcoming Legends figures.

Up first? Cloud Roadbuster/Energon Ironhide.
Followed by a comparison of the Hasbro and Takara versions of Tankor!
A nice single shot of Brainstorm in vehicle mode, ready to be piloted by Arcana, and finally, a humorous wrap up to this collection of photos as Rattle/Rattrap takes off with AoE Hound's firearms, so he can go on a hunting spree.

You can see Yuki's Twitter feed by clicking here: https://twitter.com/TFYUKI

And the mirrored images below, but before you do, check out our galleries of Generations Rattrap and Tankor! Also, while you're there, check out our gallery of Energon Ironhide, the idea for the Cloud figure, and the base mold, Generations Roadbuster.

Yeah, I totally agree on that one.I really wish Hasbro was smart enough to paint toys like Takara Tomy does.Take for example,The Transformers GO! toys are so much better painted than their Beast Hunters counterparts.

well, its a different market and they cost more. That's why the paint is so good. It is a shame though, that Hasbro can't do this kind of paint. If I saw this Tankor on the shelf I'd get him. It's really the paint that holds me back.

Good point about those GO! figures. I actually caved in and got a few of those. Amazing what a different paint scheme can do.

This is a much more subtle difference. I was thinking it might be just the logo on the chest... but then I saw all the silver instead of the gray plastic. Takara looks MUCH better. Like many of you, I'm certainly gonna use Takara for my leader and Hasbro for the troops.

The Tankor mold stinks no matter how it's painted. It's just not very good, sorry to say. But I guess the folks who are weary of complicated transformations will like it.

I mean, even the name - 'Tankor' - sounds like they just phoned it in.

Tankor has been around since forever. He first appeared in Beast Machines in, what was it, 1998? In any case, he'll make an excellent army builder. I might get a bunch of these and some of the vintage Tank Drone figures to build myself a Decepticon Heavy Armour Platoon, led by the BM Tankor figure (who like most of the BM Vehicons is an awesome figure to this day).

I wish Hasbro packaged their Deluxes like that.

Then again, if they did I'd probably want to save them all, so maybe it's better they don't.

I 2nd that notion...although I've save many a figure in my time regardless of blister or box. The box size for this figure is awesome though. :BOT:

This also works as an homage to how his boss BM Megatron's toy was deluxe sized, but Hasbro put it in a box to sell as a Mega for $15 instead of $10! The punchline being that today's deluxes average $15 anyway.

Whether that makes fans outside of Japan feel better or worse about the cost of importing this, I couldn't say, since I haven't bought any Japanese figures in a while. Might make an exception for Rattrap, but I'm mostly waiting to see if I can beat other army builders to any future deals on Hasbro Tankor. I'm patient, since it'll be a long time before I get around to painting 'em all mint green and white anyway.

And as much as I too would like collector-friendly packaging, it would also be extremely toy-swapper-friendly packaging, yes? We'd have to take into account whether Japan tends to have different return policies or sharper customer service people before pestering Hasbro to try that as well.

Ebay seller lena81822 gives us an in-hand look at the Takara Tomy Transformers Legends Roadbuster. The deco differs slightly from the Hasbro version and the images gives us a front and back view. You can fully compare Takara's version with our high quality gallery of Generations Roadbuster. Which Roadbuster do you prefer? Discuss it in the Energon Pub.

Horrible stickers? As in, you dont like any stickers, or the ones that came with Roadbuster particularily?

Honestly, I found the stickers on par with Reprolabels, with lots of possible details to apply. (I apply them all). I also love the fact that I could apply the :WRECKERS: instead of the good old :BOT: .

I think Takara was going for G1 toy accuracy with the thighs. Since Roadbuster was never on the original cartoon, Takara probably figured that toy accuracy would be the next best thing to screen accuracy.

i find it odd that you say theyre on par with RL, as every reviewer ive seen has said that half of them dont actually fit where there supposed to go.

and generally, i dont like any stickers. in no way do i think they are a reasonable replacement for proper paint apps. these recent stickers are either a throwback, or laziness/cheapness. either way im not a fan of it.

Maybe those reviewers have hands full of thumbs, but I had no problem making ALL of the stickers on Roadbuster fit perfectly where they belong.

I'll say it now: all of the woes people have had with Brainstorm's Headmaster could have been averted if they'd made his Headmaster's head out of metal.

I really think metal should make a comeback in Transformers, especially for small and fragile parts or for joints.

*looks at Titanium Series and its floppy arms and legs* Yeah no. Besides, metal would make figures even more expensive that they already are.

The main problem with "Arcana" lies within misassemblies, and people overlooking the fact he can be unlocked by pushing down the grey piece on Brainstorm's chest.
Re: TFYuki Unveils Legends (Generations) Tankor, With Comparison! (1620604)
Posted by Evil Eye on November 9th, 2014 @ 12:15pm CST
Well the Titanium series was a victim of people who weren't used to making action figures being made to...well, make action figures. Metal can be used to great effect- just look at Bandai's Soul of Chogokin and Super Robot Chogokin figures and the Takara Binaltech TFs.

The cost would be an isuue, but on the plus side, if it was done right then it would be much, much sturdier, and fixing the misassembly wouldn't risk breaking the head.
Re: TFYuki Unveils Legends (Generations) Tankor, With Comparison! (1620607)
Posted by Jelze Bunnycat on November 9th, 2014 @ 12:37pm CST
True, but if memory serves me right all joints were still plastic: only the outer shells are metal. I know that definitely goes for Binaltech and Alternity, but I'm not too sure on Soul of Chogokin.
Re: TFYuki Unveils Legends (Generations) Tankor, With Comparison! (1620611)
Posted by Evil Eye on November 9th, 2014 @ 12:42pm CST
SoCs often use metal joints- in fact that's where the majority of the metal is found (along with the lower body and feet for stability). Metal works well for joints due to its strength and weight.

Strategical use of metal parts are indeed a plus.

In Jetfire for instance, that connecting strut to the cockpit module. Brainstorm needs his neck as diecast, or the joint that allows for rotation. Similar to the metal "axels" used on G1 Optimus Prime. Again, fans/consumers should be prepared for the added cost.

Great SOC analogy btw. Take a look at A-3 by Artstorm. Great use of die-cast (he is non transforming) at par with SOC. The paint on the die-cast parts are top notch that you can't tell the difference from its ABS/PVC parts, unlike Takara's MP-01. The frickin paints is corroding already and chips off.

But metal parts have a certain advantage where durability is concerned. After all, you can't kill the metal. Those who try are smote to the ground.

Gen. Whirl's knees can be easily broken since they're so thin. I even have an example saved, from David Willis:
