Transformers Returning to Michigan, Approved for Film Incentive

March 20, 2013

LANSING – The Michigan Film Office announced today Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 has been approved for a film incentive from the state. Transformers 4 will film this spring in metro Detroit.

“It speaks volumes about all Michigan has to offer that Transformers is returning once again to our state,” said Margaret O’Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office. “This project will shine another bright spotlight on Michigan and provide tremendous opportunities for our cast, crew and support services.

Transformers 4 was awarded an incentive of $20 million on $81,933,992 of projected in-state expenditures. The project is expected to hire 368 Michigan workers with a full time equivalent of 339 jobs.

Transformers 4 is the third film in the series to use Detroit as a backdrop. The first Transformers, released in 2007, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon, released in 2011, also filmed in metro Detroit.

In Fiscal Year 2013, 13 projects have been awarded a total of $30,962,806 on $120,172,305 of approved production expenditures for the year. These projects are expected to create 1,190 Michigan hires with a full time equivalent of 559 jobs.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Film Review Committee, comprised of senior MEDC staff including the Michigan Film Commissioner, reviews all completed applications using the statute to guide approval decisions.

The Michigan Film Office was created in 1979 to assist and attract incoming production companies and promote the growth of Michigan’s own film industry. The Film Office also administers the incentive program for film, television and other digital media production in Michigan. For more on the Michigan Film Office, visit: MichiganFilmOffice.org.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation markets the state with a focus on business, talent, jobs and helping to grow the economy. For more on MEDC and its initiatives, visit: MichiganAdvantage.org.

GAWD.... :-x

Let the rumor mill begin...these plot points do not sit well with me. I see an ancient evil being of course Unicron. My worst fear is Unicron being portrayed as a friggin cosmic cloud or something equally as stupid. That crap didn't work for Rise of Silver Surfer and it is not going to work for Transformers either. Go bullistic Bay...crap all over this please...please we beg you to make this movie a complete waste of time. :michaelbay:

How can he call it transformers if all of them are off the planet? Where are the bots? I fear this will have very little transformers in it and be "HUMANS WITH A LITTLE BIT OF ROBOT ACTION AND NO ROBOT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT". I can say for once im not looking forward to this movie.

I'm sorry, but portraying Unicron as a cosmic cloud will be just as stupid as what was done to Galactus in Rise of the Silver surfer. Unicron is a transformer, not star dust.....hence the name Transformers......

I know i will go see this more than likely, but I do not have high hopes.........I just hope the kids like it.....because i'm sure i will be disappointed.......oh well >:oP

Unicron is a god that transforms, but I digress.

Who said Unicron was without-a-doubt going to be a cloud in the fourth movie? He doesn't have to be a cloud, but he doesn't have to be a giant planet[-eater] either.

All of you people complaining about Unicron being a cloud; do you honestly think Bay would be stupid enough to ruin Unicron by doing to him what pissed off a bunch of other people about another movie? This is Bay we're talking about. If there is any opportunity to make something big, menacing, and destructive, he's going to take that opportunity.

As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet.

However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control – all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his crosshairs. The epic adventure and battle between good and evil, freedom and enslavement ensues.

Does this mean we might be getting Headmasters/Powermasters/Targetmasters? Because that could be a good way to have human main characters and have the Transformers with more personality.

Ancient, powerful Transformer menace, eh? Hope its not Unicron...

I'll be honest, the only way I see Unicron as being depicted "realistically" is if they make him a sort of sentient, mobile black hole. Which, to be honest, I wouldn't mind, because the thought of an intelligent black hole that hates you is terrifying.

The other options it could be? Well from most likely to least likely I have a few thoughts.

1: Thunderwing. Powerful, ancient evil. *nods*

2: Nemesis Prime, a corrupted Prime who was thought long dead.

3: The black cloud from the G2 comics that Optimus had premonitions about.

4: Cy-Kill.

If it is Unicron, that'll give them justification to bring back dead 'Cons from the previous films. If it's not...this is the movie-verse, so it would have something to do with the Primes. Nemesis Prime would be my second guess.

And to those that hate Michael Bay, remember that he's not doing so much of the writing. Thank God, because ROTF was pretty unbearable for me. But DOTM was a step in the right direction. Not perfect, but the movies ARE targeted for everybody, not just the fans. And Michael Bay is good at what he does...and what he does is blow things up for real.

Anyway, they'll be taking my money when it comes out!

Interesting point. But Lazarus resurrected the actual Transformers. Not necassarily pushing technology beyond control, although the transformers were such. I'm thinking more along the lines of...Skynet, or the Matrix, where humans create machines that later want to kill us?

But I could be wrong. Who knows? This could just be false, misleading and typical Bay-fashion untrue stuff.

Yes. All you need to do is see what he did in Transformers 1, 2, and 3. And then that bright idea about making the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles aliens. So yeah, you're right: This is Bay we're talking about, and that's exactly why we're dreading what he and his team will come up with.
Re: Transformers 4 Confirmed to Film in Detroit (1473210)

I really hope it isn't Unicron. With the direction bay took with the fallen, this could easily be Galvatron, except Galvatron really looks like a space ghost with transforming tentacles that electrify planets with its hair... or something retarded and completely out of left-field. I don't know what to expect, but I definitely ain't expecting much. But yes, hopefully it makes money just so that the franchise can get some more cash and hopefully we get more generations figures, or cybertronian (game) figures. It's really about the figures for me. Story? I'll take the comics, thanks.

Btw, someone mentioned something about wanting innovation? You know, true innovation is making a new movie based on a new idea. If your going to rehash an old idea/franchise, the goal should be to make it better, not simply more accessible. Animated is my example. Different art style and timeline, yet better storytelling/sound effects/voice acting/etc.(than G1)

The turtles being aliens seems to be just about being more accessible (or comfortable for the average movie go-er) in seeing these creatures as just foreign species. NO! Turtles isn't about being "realistic", its about teenage, MUTANT, ninja fucking turtles.

It has to be Unicron. But I want to think out of the box, so...
How about Tornedron? He technically somewhat has a slightly almost important history as Unicron (Ok, not at all), and the CGI budget may be able to pull him off halfway decent (It won't though).
But that's just my optimistic opinion!
Re: Transformers 4 Confirmed to Film in Detroit (1473234)

My guess is that after all the damage and death in the last movie that the Decepticons inflicted on the human race Optimus thinks maybe it is time to leave and either create a new home or go back and restore Cybertron. He does this out of guilt because he promised to protect them and he couldn't plus Megatron is dead and the Decepticons are no more so they felt in the way and a reminder of the carnage.
So these "businessmen" probabaly get a hold of some of the Decepticon wreckage and try to reverse engineer it to build drones or robot soldiers that they could sell to the military. However it backfires and end up reactivating some of the cons who end up taking over the factory to build more Decepticons.
One more thing, before Optimus leaves he deems Megatron to dangerous to leave behind so he takes him with him and give him a burial in space. As he is in space he is found by Unicron and is revived by him to make a deal with Unicron to exact revenge on the Autobots and humans for his defeat. Unicron agrees because he wants to devour Earth afterwards.
Then again I'm only speculating...... >:oP

Assuming these vague details are accurate perhaps humans could somehow discover the Masterforce. The ancient menace could be Devil Z (and MegaZarak or BlackZarak). How many Americans were exposed to Super-God Masterforce? Sure, that would be far more creative than anything used to date, but with a few tweaks it could be a great story that makes humans the central figures AND transformers with some backup from Prime and a few Cybertronian transformers. Of course, this won't happen. >:oP

I concur, even though I really don't care for the movies. I find it very ignorant when people say there's no plot. Sure, you can joke about it, but being serious about that claim like this guy is making evident means the claimer in question is superbly under-analytic.

It's a shame they've plumped for Bay again. DOTM was an inprovement and it did well in spite of the awful, awful dialogue but it was time for a change. Bay staying on is like Paul ws Anderson staying on board the Resident Evil films...they make money and have tons of action but they're simply garbage.
