I'm pretty sure that's a price hike preceding a "sale" where they'll be like $13.99 and they can say they used to be $23.

Unfortunately, TRU has been charging around $20 for the deluxe/warrior class (both RID and CW) here and there, for about a year now. It's not all TRU, but it's pretty wide spread. That Bot wrote:Emerje wrote:Meanwhile in America TRU doesn't see anything wrong with asking $22.99 for Deluxe.

I visit 4 TRUs all about 1-2 hours apart spread across two different states and the prices are all over the place.
Fortunately, my local TRU keeps its prices for deluxes at $16.99, unfortunately it rarely has new stock.

Not always. But there is always a big space reserved to Transformers. And since last august, they also had a four side display/highlight shelf as well. So they are usually well stocked but its not always the latest wave (still no 2016 wave 2 deluxes in my area) and its not always these insane prices. Though Walmart prices are higher than TRU this year in Canada which is odd.
Emerje wrote:Meanwhile in America TRU doesn't see anything wrong with asking $22.99 for Deluxe.
That price sounds nuts. Very sorry to hear about it.

Thats really odd to me. I mean they have an online site, I dont know why this prices dont match to it. Plus that would mean their central computer isnt lined up and that sounds like a nightmare when there is a sale in the flyer that is percentage based (because the central computer would issue new temporary price). Can you at least price check with walmart? That would remove any odd factor TRU has with its pricing.

Due to certain circumstances, it's turned out that I will likely have to get rid of two of my CW Deluxes. I'm definetely prioritizing my Blast Off, Brawl and Swindle for Onslaught to make a kind of Bruticus, but I'm struggling on what to keep out of the other three - First Aid, Rook and Alpha Bravo.
Rook I find the most fun and enjoyable, but he shares a mold with Swindle.
Alpha Bravo is a unique mold out of my little collection and he makes a decent replacement Vortex for now.
First Aid is undoubtebly my favourite and is a unique mold, but he fits in as a replacement Bruticus limb the least.
I'm keeping all their weapons so those won't come into it. What would you guys do?

Prioritize first aid. Its the best and most versatile mold If you like crambling, its the only mold that makes as good an arm as a leg. And the robot and vehicle mode looks great too.

Not true I bought my sky lynx at a local target.

Death suggested the same thing for SkyLynx makes sense...
And why is it that at TRU Canada CW are super cheap, and in the US pricing are increasing (Deluxes started at $17, then $19, now are $22!!!) They are $15 at Wal-Mart, but the selection at most Wal-Mart's is pretty bad in my area.

While I hate those practices, at least there I understood that its because they wanted to make up for all the scattershots they would end up having to sell at a discount. But with Groove, its 8 grooves in a box. He's not sharing it with anyone, its all just him in one box. So the higher price is just because they think they can get away with it. well guess what, I'm not gonna fall for it.

The price is still less than what he was going on at Amazon last night, and only about $5 more than the regular deluxe figures at Target these days. (I'm surprised I am not more shocked at that than I am.) My purpose for paying a bit of a premium at BBTS for all of these figures is the guarantee I get them on Preorder versus having to spend time hunting them in the stores. I do miss the excitement of the hunt, but I just don't have the time any more.
And as long as there are people like me willing to pay these online retailers, they will stay in business. You all have a right to vote with your wallets, just like I do.

This is the same price both BBTS and HTS had Quickslinger and Brake-Neck listed for last year. I'm reasonably confident it's not going any lower.
Okay never mind, Hasbro's website lists them at a $16.99 MSRP

I've preordered from BBTS as a placeholder but we'll see what Hasbro Toy Shop does I guess.

Yeah but at that price it's worth the wait.
Free shipping would've been nice, but pretty easy to justify if you've bought any of your figures from this line on sale or with free shipping.
I ordered Cyclonus from TFSource for $18 and it'll ship free with another order,
so this option for Groove is a wash and no-brainer. I wasn't going to risk having to spend $42+ at amazon or ebay.
Between August and October I have a pretty substantial haul coming in!
UW Supe
UW Brut
UW Comp
3 PE add-on kits
Cyclonus,
and for good measure, a Hasbro Onslaught

In the grand scheme of all this, I only picked up Blades and Streetwise because I knew Groove was going to be available. So securing him was a pretty big deal for me.

October is strange. Quite a ways away. So I wonder if Hasbro made the May Mayhem sale at HTS to cover their butts, knowing Groove wasn't going to make it on time.

Now that I have CW Groove ordered, I need to figure out which add-on set I want for Defensor.
I've been pumping the brakes on the PE black set hoping something slightly better would be released.
I am leaning towards the Dream Wave set because I personally like that it gives Defensor a fairly different look.
Small issue is I'm not a fan of the hands... The lower waist/crotch plates also look questionable... But I like the headsculpt and everything else. Even the parts for HotSpot.
Thoughts?

The Dream Wave stuff seems to be for the United Warriors versions. They're very pointy and really change the look a lot. There is a lot of cool stuff included and I like the individual stuff more than the combiner stuff with Dream Wave. I think overall I like the PE stuff better, but they don't have a dedicated Defensor kit.

He feels like a Swindle who at some point decided to dedicate himself to and prioritize being a Combaticon and a soldier rather than a salesman.
I mean, with his personality, what sort of thing would you expect from him? Slimmer angles and body proportions; a smooth texture; something elegant. Even just something like the endless Hound redecoes; those work because they tend not to be especially bulky. But CW? He's bulky, he's rough, he's certainly not elegant. He's dedicated to being part of the unit. And it's not like you can't get a slimmer profile out of CW - look at the Aerialbots, Groove, First Aid etc. Rook/Swindle/Hound/Nosecone just happens to be the bulkiest one out there.
Which is... kind of fun, not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, this should be the Swindle. This is revisiting what he was originally made for; he was specifically planned this time rather than just being another jeep repaint. This is kind of going back to his roots. So you'd expect something more traditional for him, wouldn't you? A profile similar to the Aerialbots. But instead you get this bulky, rough and tumble soldier. On the other hand... it can kinda work. He's the sort of guy you get the idea would do anything to get a good sale or to achieve his goals. So if something called for him to get into a bulkier body to combine into Bruticus for a while, he'd go for it without a second thought. Maybe. I dunno. I'm overthinking toys here
Posted by Sowndwave76 on May 25th, 2016 @ 8:14pm CDT
I'd also agree that each combiner does look different enough...
I guess part of the consideration for this set is that I'm not a huge fan of how Defensor looks to begin with. He seems a little too 'blocky' to me.
A little convincing from Hellscream and being able to get Groove were just enough to change my mind on skipping getting the whole team past Hotspot and First Aid.
One thing I will say, is I don't mind the set having a smaller headsculpt; it proportionally makes everything else at least somewhat appear a little larger. That's one thing that kinda bugged me about the old G1 combiners-- the big 'ol melon-heads those guys had!
And the hands are a bit thin, but I don't think that bothers me too much.
The additions for Hotspot would make that mold look even more unique from Onslaught...
Jury's still out on this one.
Kurona--
I see exactly what you mean about Swindle, and I don't even have him yet
(although in the last couple days I've thought about getting the rest of the combaticons since I've ordered a Hasbro Onslaught).
I think the mold overall works for him quite well. Still don't like all the texture on the lower legs, but ehhh, still looks like a good version of him.
I like him looking a bit bulky... Vortex looks like the trim, sleek, quick member of the team to me.

Nothing wrong wth overthinking thats what these boards are for
I quite like this swindle. He is my favourite of this set by far. I just like the sculpt. I really love the dedication to the headsculpt too. Lightpiping is awesome but when you have dedicated plastic to bring out the eyes, thats just awesome. I like the pouches, I like the detail under the car which works great in robot mode to highlight he is made of car parts. I love the pouches and how he details line up when you insert his arms. I really love how the arm mode has its own unique transformation apart from the leg mode and how the weapon is placed differently to fully achieve each mode. As a toy for combiner wars its a true winner. And I actualy saw him as a traditional swindle from the get go. Thanks to you Kurona, I actually went back and watched those 2 combaticon heavy episodes. Swindle isnt the salesman there, he is the full on combaticon (if anyone is the smooth talker and calm one there its more Blastoff) and this toy showcases that beautifuly.
Oh another thing I picked up is how the combaticons are all made from older war vehicles which then get a massive upgrade when turned into transformers. And Blastoff was a jet. So while it will forever be lazy that we didnt get a shuttle, I find it cool that there is an actual story link to how Blastoff is connected to fighter jets. And I will say it again, his deco is sooooooooo good.

Well from your other posts I can tell you're getting the UW set and you strive for cartoon accuracy over anything else.
I guess all I could really recommend for you in your case would be Vortex because the colours on UW Vortex look a little... weird in their placement, and Swindle because who doesn't want a standalone non-combined Swindle
Honestly I have all the CW Combaticons aside from Vortex - and even then I've got Alpha Bravo who is literally the same in every way aside from colours - and they make a wonderful little unit. The only real problem to me is Blast Off's head. It's also fun if you have a lot of spare weapons lying around and you can really militarize 'em; I gave Classic Optimus' smokestack gun to Swindle and it somehow works really well, and the smaller Leader Thundercracker guns to Blast Off. Then I put Blast Off's normal gun as Swindle's arm cannon because his usual weapon is way too dinky... I dunno, I just really find throwing a ton of weapons onto the Combaticons really fun.
