Thanks to fellow Seibertronian chuckdawg1999, we've been able to determine what IDW Publishing Transformers comics will be packed in with Wave 2 onwards (and retroactively the first wave) of the deluxes in the Combiner Wars toy line! In a strange twist, rather than including comics from the actual Combiner Wars storyline, they feature issues from the pre-Dark Cybertron era - so far, at least. Check out below the synopses and confusing numbering from Offroad, Air Raid and Dead End, showing the very beginning of gestalt technology in Phase 2 of the IDW universe: Megatron's return, the control of Prowl, and the start of Prowlestator!

Retroactively in Wave 1? Damn, now I feel gypped, since I have Wave 1 without comics.

So, wait... those of us who purchased the first batch of wave 1 will need to purchase a second set to get the comics? That's a bit crummy... Image

[edit]Sniped by albnok. I'm with you on this feeling. I realize I could just purchase the comics from my comic shop, but the completionist in me is not liking this... I'll prolly buy two sets of Wave 1...

Thanks for the info! Odd way to do it but almost certainly due to the comic scheduling and not wanting to push out issues not due until next month way too early.

Glad I've withheld from picking up Wave 1 so far.

But then again, I've done so because I'm holding out for Takara's Superion instead.

Though, it is weird that the issues aren't Combiner Wars ones and are instead from pre-Dark Cybertron RID.

Yup, it's been confirmed by Hasbro the first assortments lacked the comics (well, used the multilingual packaging for the US instead of the English-only one) due to production timing issues.

The weird part to me is the "pre-Dark Cybertron" part. I doubt IDW would want Wave 2 to have CW issues, as that would mean that things planned to come out in April (Windblade CW 2, and RiD CW2) could hit in March as pack-ins. However, why they don't have say, TF/xRiD 35-38 which directly lead into CW, I'm not sure.

This is a really good idea since combiner wars hasn't been released yet for IDW. I was a bit worried the first 4 out of 6 issues would be coming out with the toys before they've been released by the publisher. I also thought maybe it'd be one issue by wave. Part one is wave 2 then part 2 comes with each protectobot and so on.

My guess is that the Prowlestator/Megatron combination beginning of story is essentially seen as the seeding of Combiner Wars in general. It is the reason that Starscream wants Superion active again, and Devastator!Prowl is essentially the reason for the entire thing going down after all.

But, just a guess. :D

Okay so just so I get somethings on the straighter end of the spectrum. Is the first wave going to be re-released for them to have the proper comics for US distribution, instead of the cards for international retail.?

More like the figures carried over from Wave 1 into the next will have the comics. Remember, while we denote only the new figures, later assortment will mix in older figures as well.

Sorry for the joke Scotty. While I personally don't believe in spoilers I know a ton of people on the net do and when it comes to views I can't afford to piss anybody off. Also I'm not 100% sure reading/showing the comic in a video is ok due to copyrights and all.

My understanding is that the first wave will have the Dark Cybertron issues and the second wave onwards will have Combiner Wars proper. I don't really know, I don't follow the comics. Though I've been wanting to get into them.

The comics shown in this news post, however, are from the second wave of figures (though the first wave to have comics), and are all pre-Dark Cybertron issues.

The cheapest way to get into the comics is to buy the hard covers. There is Phase 1, volumes 1 - 8 and Phase 2, volume 1 (so far) with volume 2 coming out in a few more months.

I think what Coptur is saying is that the idea of our favorite old Dinobots combining is a bad idea because it ruins their characterization. They're stubborn loose cannons held together by Grimlock because he's the Alpha Dino that could beat them all up, and they're so strong they don't have any need to combine together into a larger robot because they can take anything out anyway. This obviously doesn't always pan out for them in G1 but in their own minds, this is the case.

In other words, Dinopope = cool! Combining Grimlock, Slag, Snarl, Sludge, and Swoop? Please, no. Never.

And if you think that if Dinobots were to be on the Decepticon side we'd be in a heap of trouble, nope:

As well as Voyagers: Cyclonus, and Hot Spot. For an extra bit of fun, check out the comical mis-transformation of Hot Spot's alt mode. As a Joe fan I'm lookin forward to that Viper figure. Warpath without the chest cannon is kind of like mac without the cheez,it's just wrong. Hotspot on the other hand's never looked better. Never really cared for his G1 color scheme but this guy's rockin it. Face ladder not withstanding even his alt mode is pretty snazzy.

Not really liking that there is going to be so much size variation throughout the Legends class figures. Warpath will be ridiculously small compared to the Seekers and so will Huffer when he comes out. This is what I hate about Hasbro constantly recycling stuff. it's bad enough when it's through one one but when they carry the stuff over to the next and they make changes in the size classes then it just looks stupid as well as lazy.

Bitching aside, I'm warming up to Warpath and I will certainly get Viper and most of the rest of the Legends but I'm liking the Seeker design less and less the more I see of it.
Rodimus is one they lost me on too. The vehicle design doesn't suck but the weapon is just laughable. An afterthought, and a poorly done one at that, just to make his spoiler/wing tie in with him.

Ok, I'll bite: Warpath is a retool of Legends Megatron, just without Chop Shop:

Sad, but true, the Legends Class contains only 4 unique molds:

- Powerglide
- Bombshell
- Blackjack
- Protectobot Groove

... with 2 pretools:

- Decepticon Viper
- Rodimus

The rest are all redecos or retools from last years Thrilling 30 line.

If HasTak doesn't use that Hotspot body for Onslaught, I'll be pretty sad. Because I want that toy, but I don't really want that character.

I guess, worst case, they make a new-mold Onslaught, in which case I'll cave and get Hotspot so I can turn him into RID Optimus.

I'm conflicted about Hot Spot. The vehicle mode looks too long. I hope that head is just mistransformation. What bothers me most is the mesh behind his back. Head sculpt and color looks great though. A bit brighter blue than I'd hoped but spot on.

I would dig a Fire Convoy/Super Fire Convoy retool of Hotspot/Defensor. Particularly if they paint it in the colours of my All-Yellow version. God damn, thinking of that toy makes me wanna visit home and dig it out of storage.
