Isn’t the 3P Rodimus toy based on his comic design, not the other way around?
Speaking of, when the hell are we gonna get a good 3P Drift?

Not exactly. If you go back to MTMTE issue 17 I think you can see Rodimus in rare form in his altmode and MMC took a lot of liberties with his altmode. He has pipes in the center of his alt mode in the art and in the figure they’re only to the side.
That’s MTME/LL Rodimus.
Ed is straight up using the mmc toy.
EJ is using their figure. Which he probably just googled LL Rodimus and saw the figure and thought it was an official. That happens more often than it should but that’s world we live in now. A lot of 3rd party toys pop up now on search engines and if you’re not a collector anymore you probably wouldn’t know.
He’s also using Prime Racthets ambulance for ratchet...

I definitely noticed the Ratchet bit, it makes me think we actually haven’t seen his alt mode in this body. I’m a huge fan of MTMTE/LL but there seriously aren’t enough transformations. Spotlight: Sixshot had him alone transform a dozen times or more.
So what you’re saying is the toy was made before we got a clear look at Roddy’s alt mode, and then this different artist is using that as a reference?

Rodimus has transformed 5 times in MTMTE. Issue one which is a tiny panel, the annual which was drawn by someone else you cant see him very well also one panel. Issue 17 which is what I posted in my edit and the only clear image of his alt mode and in 50 and 55 but they’re not views that give you any details of it and their toy was already out
EJ even added details that’s are unique to The MMC figure lol

And speaking of which, it is cool to see EJ's art again. him, Casey Coller, all kinds of different artists for the final sprint to the end, I like that.
Also really wondering what Getaway did to turn the crew into Sparkeaters. and why Perceptor just blasted Brainstorm instead of trying to take his spark. Also kinda cute the way Stormy tries to bring him back to his sense.

Defensor was on that ship... Did Defensor get turned? Do we even want to know if there is a 10 story tall SparkEater running around?

There isn't. First Aid, Thunderclash, and Riptide escaped in Star Saber's ship in issue 12 while Rook was killed in his sleep by Atomizer, Ambulon was used as a leg to replace him but is dead, and the rest of the protectobots were shot apart by the security crew after Star Saber beat Defensor into pieces like Defensor was a giant wuss. So First Aid is the only member of Defensor still alive (or at least not comatose and full of holes).
And not like it matters anyway, the entire crew has had their mind wiped and re-written so many times by a sociopath being paid with brains and spines to chew on from other crew members, so it's not like any part of the ship's crew was actually redeemable.
In case you can't tell, Issue 12 is still very much a sour point for me, as is the handling of the protectobots and the mutineers as a whole.

yeah, that arc was so prety so so. Ambulon makes things difficult, but I wouldnt be surprised if the Comatose couldve been turned.

Even if the comatose could be turned, that leaves a Defensor with no legs, seeing as how First Aid managed to escape, even if the turned could combine with Ambulon again.
And Mirage is dead too, and Roberts established that either Getaway didn't know he was a combiner limb, or IDW isn't scramble city where a limb from another combiner can just jump to a different combiner

I thought that too, but Springer wouldn't be trying to do all this crap as far as I would believe.
Although, I have thought about this: what if Springer going back in time is what ends this universe? He succeeds, and slowly time starts to change, and when it looks like Unicron is about to win, everything finally finishes changing in a flash, and Cybertron is peaceful, the war never happened, Unicron never came, and the LL quest never needed to happen, thus saving everyone and stopping the Grand Architect

This is actually my seceret hope for a happy ending for the series. I think Springer time traveling was too significant an event to not have major and lasting consequence.
Requiem my have been the final Wrecker story, but I do not believe we have seen the last of the Sprung One.

This would be a fitting way to tie LL into The End of IDWverse. Transformers: Groundhog Day Edition. It's also obvious what kind of ending I am looking forward to. A "happy ending" completely defeats the point of it being a Unicron story, after all.

Yet so far this hasn't played out like a typical Unicron story either. None of that Primus/Unicron creation myth BS (hopefully that will continue). You know, like when IDWverse first started and it subverted all the old tropes? The finale could mark the return of IDWverse to it's roots in that respect.

I dunno, it worked for Avengers, and sone of the dead have Contracts to come back. None of the players here have that going for them.
i would be down for everyone dieing and the last page of the IDW verse is Unicron sitting on a planet drinking a Mimosa and watchibg a Sun peak over another Planet like Thanos.
No, I know it wont happen. The Good guys have to win. But I can dream

To be fair, much like Infinity War, Unicron is the "good guy" here. Removing a perceived corruption from this universe.
I remember when IDWverse first started and it was quickly hammered home, that this Civil War wasn't as simplified and kid-friendly as "Good vs. Evil".
Nothing was as black & white as Decepticons=Evil and Autobots=Good. Because war isn't like that. There was no great gulf between the ideologies of the two factions. A label, a symbol was the only real difference between them. Of course it swiftly got dumbed down again with AHM, because nuance is clearly something not every writer can grasp. Some just want to write whatever they feel like and pull Transformer skins over it...

As for avengers...you do know that it has a part 2 in the next avengers film? All that will be undone.
I still think they should go the cybertron route and have unicrons destruction causing the new continuity that overwrites the old one. Still I think we'll hear from IDW at SDCC, regarding plans but I can understand them waiting to reveal their full hand once the last issue of unicron hits
Posted by AllNewSuperRobot on June 20th, 2018 @ 12:54pm CDT
Much like how Nebulos was annihilated early on in Stormbringer, have Cybertron suffer the fate of Lithone. Unicron then goes about his business and a warning "message in a bottle" type signal is sent via some timey-wimey Macguffin to the next reality.. The Reboot Universe.

Yes I know it does, thats why I emphasized that some of the Avengers had contracts for Movies, and dtill they died. There's nothing after this for *THESE* Cybertronians. If they die thats it, there is no Part 2.

Yet what does it matter if none if them live and/or get a happy ending? What if it's a large scale Autobot Shuttle scene?
What if the only happy ending is with Unicron, his task complete, flying through a Grateful Universe?

The full piece, which you can read here, touches on a number of topics, such as planning, storyline changes, particular character developments and cast handling, Tarn and Getaway, Conjunx endurae across the board, and the Scavengers! Read some highlights below, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub
With you planning so far ahead, did any of your long-term planning change along the way?
You know, I was all ready to say that the basic mytharc — that is, the overall shape of the story I set out to tell back in 2011 — has remained broadly the same, but now that I’m an issue away from the end, I don’t think that’s true. Megatron’s defection to the Autobots, which was something no one predicted back in the beginning, did change the course of the story in more ways than I imagined at the time. And I think he changed it for the better; it made for a richer, deeper story, and one that better explores the key themes of More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light: guilt, family, and forgiveness.
[...]
Are there any teases you can draw towards mysteries fans may not be keeping their eye on?
Well, I kind of refer you to my previous answer. The readers are so attentive, and they’re so used by now to my style of storytelling, that very few clues go unnoticed. In fact, what tends to happen is that non-clues get seized upon as evidence of an imaginary plot line that’s always, frustratingly, better than the one I’ve got planned.
I will say, however, that the finale is designed to answer all the questions that have been building up over the last seven years, including some that may have been forgotten about, or to which it appeared that the answers had already been given.
[...]
Is there anything you would like to add about the book?
Oh god, where to start? With regards to the last few issues specifically, I’ve really tried to deliver the finale that long-time readers deserve. It’s like our earlier season finales rolled into one and amplified. It’s huge, and it needs to be because this is where all those years of readers’ investment pay off. Characters get their moment to shine, or meet their end, and mysteries are finally, properly solved. The cast is absolutely huge, as is the scale – it really is like our version of Infinity War. And I’ll make no apologies – there’s a lot going on.
More generally, I’d like to say that for me, there will never be another book – or another creative journey – quite like More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light. As a Transformers fan back in the 80s/90s, this is the One Big Story that I always wanted to tell, and everything just fell into place at the right time. Best of all, it turns out there was a market for whatever it was MTMTE turned out to be: a silly, serious, funny-sad space opera sitcom about very ordinary, very extraordinary people.
Posted by misfire19d on June 22nd, 2018 @ 11:40am CDT
If I want stories about extraordinary people I’ll read The X-Men or watch The CW. If I want to read stories about Transformers I’ll, well, wait till next year.

So... you don't see the Transformers characters as extraordinary characters? o.O okay...
The intent of the line was to discuss them as characters who are unique, but if you want to go the X-Men superhero route... G1 already did that: Windcharger, magnet powers. Skywarp, teleport powers. Hound, hologram powers. Trailbreaker, force-fields. Mindwipe, telepathy.... and so on, and so on...

In contrast, I have noticed the shift in tone regarding opinion of Roberts from the beginning of MTMTE to LL. That is in only six years, mind you. Even by your assessment above, Furman's "decline" took a couple of decades.

Oh I'm sure IDW will gladly have him back. And I have no problem with people thinking he's a good writer, it's a matter of opinion. I just think he's a mediocre TF writer at best, a notch above the gaggle of hacks who wrote the Bayverse films. But that has to do with my utter disappointment in the last 3rd of MTMTE and the 1st half of LL. MTMTE began with a lot of fun and promise, but it began to decline soon after, and after issue 40 or so, just went to toilet paper quality. I had hoped that LL would redeem it, but that hasn't happened. I'm not judging LL, because I have yet to read past issue 12, but I'm hard-pressed to believe the entire story will be saved.ZeroWolf wrote:I know you don't like him buy is that really necessary? Other people are sad to see him go after all. Also be careful what you say as I think he could easily return to tf after a couple years break, he did win some awards after all.
ANYWAY. I don't want to keep bringing up my reasons, like you said, it's known that I don't think much of him as a TF writer.
I will finish LL for better or worse when the TPBs come out, as I find that reading the story in larger chunks makes it more tolerable. But I doubt I will spend any more of my time and money on anything Roberts writes in the future.
And comparing him to Furman is laughable, especially to Simon from the latter run if G1. Greatest. TF stories. EVER. In my opinion. I also think G2 would have been pretty good if he was allowed to finish it. ReGeneration One? I was very excited for it when it started, but it became clear quickly that Furman has lost a couple of steps. Recently I started thinking about it in a better light, but it was disappointing as well through the middle. Good beginning, decent ending, but it left a lot to be desired in the 2nd and 3rd story arcs.
