You know, I really view the armor as the second thought on this figure, same as Shockwave. I mean, faux parts is not a new concept, and his robot mode looks phenomenal. And with the armor being that soft, it doesn't look like the car is missing anything without it.

Me either. But not because I dislike the AM figs, it's just price really. If I can't get something from the North American line, however, then I will import stuff. Smokescreen looks awesome, a million times better then the AM redeco. I wish his chest area wasn't so flat though.

He may have got it from a legit source. BBTS is already filling preorders for Smokescreen.

I see potential for customizers - jazz, wheeljack, deadend, sideswipe..

Two layers of kibble just hanging off the back of his arms. And I just don't think the bot mode looks very good. Anyone else feeling that way?
Yes and no. I am happy I'm not alone on my thoughts for this figure
I do however think it looks a decent figure, nice car bot, and if I see it in stores I will buy it. Just not Smokescreen, and still not deserved of it's praise I think. A show accurate smokescreen without this level of cheat and kibble is possible, so why herald something that hasn't tried? I'm not that fussed, I'm not getting nerd ragey myself over either, I just don't know why everyone who wanted 'a perfect Smokescreen' seems happy to say this is it

BH Smokescreen looks like a solid figure, easy for me to pick up when I see him.

This is a much more show accurate figure than the AM version IMO. I never liked the Knockout mold, which is (once again IMO) only beaten in the ugliness department by the Airachnid mold.
One thing about the armor and net: remove them as soon as humanly possible and store them somewhere far away from the figure! Rubber and plastic are a terrible combination and much grief will occur if the the armor is left in contact with the figure.
If you need proof, go dig up your older Megabloks sets such as Blok Bots and Future Force. If you stored the pieces loose in a box, be prepared to find popcorn ball-like clusters of bricks melted and stuck to any rubber parts in the box such as tires and hoses. If you left the sets assembled, the damage will be much less widespread, but it will be there all the same. Rubber kills!

Looks to me like they designed this for season 2 but didn't use it, then added the armour. In robot mode the armour is more like an arbour.

There's some quite serious cheating going on with this new figure, but that's kind of par for the course with PRIME and when the end result looks that good I won't complain too much.
Seeing this review has added weight to the idea that I may not get any of the Beast Hunter versions of returning characters (except Smokescreen and maybe Optimus and Magnus). Most of them have significant differences between their standard PRIME and Beast Hunters appearances, but that rubber wreath of Smokescreen's makes almost no difference. Then again I suppose Rhinox, Waspinator and Inferno went the whole of Beast Wars in the same body while everyone else upgraded once or twice. May just get the ones I like i.e. not Beast Hunters Ratchet.
