I'd buy it for 30 bucks. That's about all there is to say. These molds are far to new to deserve a platinum style reissue.

What a shame...I really want this set because Rodimus looks pretty good and I need another wreck-gar for my Iron Maiden Junkion upgrade set. It seems the colors are really basic and muddled on both Scrapheap and Wreck-Gar, with Rodimus being the clear favorite. I'll wait for this one to drop in price before scooping it up, I do need a United Scrapheap though.

Also Reviewer doesn't mention it but besides the color Rodimus's engine block has the Henkei addition for the Arms-Micron targetmaster that was sold separately (which I have fort some reason)

I think I'd go $49.99..I think. It would only be my 3rd version of Rodimus in that mold. Can I reverse the scene and it be Rodimus Junkions (Rodimukions?) vs. Wreck-Gar and his moto-buddy Scrapheap? Sure I can. They're my toys!! [-(

Rodimus DOES look pretty good.

Also, IRON MAIDEN JUNKIONS?! :KREMZEEK:

I meant the Maiden japan/Lucky Rogers upgrade kits for a Junkion Medic and Warrior. They're paint matched more to RTS Wreck-gar's original mold (but with the Junkions mix-matching and stuff would be an okay aesthetic...) I was thinking of another upgrade kits name mix-mashed with that set lol

Wait wait wait... hold on a sec! I think I just had some memories come back to me! If I recall, some years ago in 2006-2007, a friend of mine let me borrow a transformer, if I'm not mistaken, I think it was this Hot-Rod! I have been trying to remember for so long what toy that was, and I think I finally know!

The platinum line was well represented today at the New York Toy Fair with even a surprise or two. For instance, there will actually be a Transformers Platinum Robots in Disguise set. Better than that it will include the previously Takara Exclusive Battle Grimlock which was a heavy retool of FOC Grimlock. It also includes the standard Bumblebee deluxe toy which sports a different deco than the Hasbro retail version. You can see live images of them on the showroom floor here.

The other platinum set shown was the Cyclonus, Scourge and Sweep set made up of the Universe/Gnerations molds. Cyclonus seems to have a new gun rather than his target master. All three have parts made up of clear plastic. Let us know what you think!

I think it's a reference to the transformation scene in the movie when their becoming Galvatron and Cyclonus etc.

More overuse of transparent plastic on what's bound to be another poorly priced platinum set. Why use a new Devcon head we've never seen before for this nonsense?

Whoever is thinking up these sets and deccos really needs to move onto a different toyline. Their heart is clearly not in it.

It's like a complete line of afterthoughts.

Here's an idea for a Platinum Set!

Troop building Junkions and Sweeps. No silly gimmicks like translucent plastic, just troop builders, a set people would actually be interested in instead of tacky reuses of old molds.

It's actually not the Devcon tooling. It actually looks like a whole new tooling, with Devcon's face but Scourge's head tube thing. Why even bother making a new head just for this set, who knows.

Or two 3-packs of the seeker limbs, if you look, airraid has a triangle cut-out under his cockpit, almost as if the head it were to conceal ended in a cone shape :-?

I actually did say that it was a new head, this was exactly the point I was driving at.

Ironically, I wonder if hasbro considered doing that (it would be cheap) but thought that we (consumers) would say that that was 'lazy' of them, and changed it at the last minute :-?

It seems possible. But considering some of the mold choices (e.g. Classics Hotrod, Universe Galvatron & Titanium Rodimus) I'd say they're very much dissociated from any idea of what the fans want, at least for the platinum sets.

I just keep wondering 'who are they for?'.
The pricepoint is too high for your average casual fan to go "oh wow, i remember these guys!", a lot of the more seasoned collectors will already have most of the molds and characters in one way or another, or even be looking to get new versions in the case of Galvatron. The diehard G1 fabs will look at the inaccurate deccos and be turned off.

The decco doesn't even seem to be the sort of premium paint job stuff you'd get from an e-hobby or asain market 3-pack set to justify that price.

Who actually wants to buy these?

Two types of people
Those who "gotta have them all" and those who missed out on previous releases.

Otherwise ... yeah, who wants to buy them? There's just no appeal, translucent plastic is NOT an appeal.

The latter being me. Never got Wreck-Gar, could use Scrapheap as a buddy for Junkheap, and I sorta like Rodimus enough to replace the RTS one that came with Cyclonus.

But agreed; translucent plastic only works for light piping. Imagine my discomfort when I realized BotCon 2014 Pounce and Wingspan had translucent hinges in their calves....

I agree that it's the same but not, so less "Pokémon: Gotta Catch 'Em All" and more "Dare! Dare to believe I'll buy the toys! They hold my future in their hands!"

Both of those references need to be sung, one louder and with the passion of Stan Bush.

Well, it being a Platinum release means that it's probably not gonna be any cheaper than getting the Takara original.

Not to mention that it's less show-accurate than the Takara original anyway.

Being how costly the Platinum editions are, it makes it a bit difficult to justify a price that will probably end up about $90-100. For most. for a few, it may be a win though :BOT:

...Yes?... Lone Wolf! :-P

I guess this set will cost as much the Planet of Junk set, right?

I can get the Planet of Junk for $129.95 AUD. Buying just one deluxe TF at the shops is $30 here, so that's what? an extra $40 for the platinum-ness of it all. It's not so bad comparitivly, mind you that is only because I get so monumentally screwed on the prices for regular TFs :-P

B-but, I'm a completionist* that loves translucent plastic...

*there are still limits, let's not get caught up on the semantics

How can you not love clear plastic when it yielded these beautiful specimens:

What? Its very appealing. I love my translucent plastic bots. Main reason why I bought Transformers Prime Dark Energon Wheeljack, and I'm looking for Sons of Cybertron Rodimus.

Its fine if you don't like translucent plastic, but making a broad statement that there is no appeal is just wrong.

There are many out there that do like translucent plastic. Heck, I love the YOG G2 Optimus Prime because of its translucent plastic. And now he's pretty affordable because nobody wants him, he's on clearance now. Win win for me. I expect about the same for Optimus Primal.

I think Translucent plastic is pretty cool too when well implemented. I like those trans scanning varaints to the movie figures and I much preffer the Translucent version of Prime Predaking's wings:

I concede the point, when done right, translucent plastic can be nice when done right. But in the case of these sets, the added transparency doesn't really (opinion alert) add anything of additional merit, but infact takes away by making some of the figure more fragile than it would have been if cast in HDPE.

With that qualifying remark, I stand by my assessment that the translucent plastic is not a draw (for me).

You may want to recheck that phrasing.

The platinum RID Grimlock is a reissue of Takara's Battle Grimlock with a more metalic paint job.

It seems to have additional details that are not present on the takara version. For example the dino feet are green like the tv series while takara left them black. Also the feet have more black to better match the tv show.

Nope, I think Cyclonus and friends look very cool with those bits of translucent plastic.

I'm also stoked for the voyager RID Grimlock set. I don't need another Bee in my life and I'm afraid the price is going hurt my feelings a bit.

The movie is a big part of my collecting drive, so having more Sweeps is always good. Maybe I'll even break out my other Sweeps and redo my Sweeps display (which would displace my Junkion display, not really liking that set much).

I dislike the translucent plastic on Cycloinus, though. Mostly just his head. I guess it must part of the same batch as the other translucent parts, but it's just weird IMO.

Fellow Seibertronians, TFW2005 member BattleUpSaber has reported finding the RID Platinum set in Singapore, where the set is priced at 129.90. The set, first seen at NY Toyfair this year, is of particular note, as it utilizes the Takara Tomy voyager class Grimlock - an extensive retool of Fall of Cybertron Grimlock. The picture has been mirrored, and can be seen below. And, as always, let us know what you think of this in the comments below.
