Courtesy of Seibertronian chuckdawg1999 we have another video review for the latest Transformers: Robots in Disguise Warrior class wave: Sideswipe, the teenage swordsbot! Check out the video embedded below for the wavemate of Jazz, and find out your fellow collector's thoughts on the toy - does it pass the bar?

Well, Hasbro can't win them all. Sideswipe has a great looking car mode, two tone paint and all, unfortunately that's where the compliments end. While the transformation is interesting, a flaw in the design prevents the torso from coming together properly and staying together, making posing the upper half of the figure impossible. Perhaps the inevitable repaint will somehow magically stay together, but I'm not holding out hope.

That's a real shame about Sideswipe, I was really jazzed for this wave. I still feel that Sideswipe looks good in alt mode. It really is a very cool looking car with some neat vent like detailing on the rear. To me the whole line looks good in alt mode. Maybe I can pick him up on sale?

Yeah I do not like the arms or upper area around the head.

I also found the legs a pain in the butt to transform and figure out.

I'm willing to bet he doesn't have him transformed right, considering Hasbro's instructions for the warriors suck. I'll bet there is more to those panels that fold into his back.

I really wish it was the case. The problem with Sideswipe is that the plastic use for his shoulders are very soft so when you attach it to the chest...it will pop off as soon as you touch it. If you have RID Drift, imagine the plastic use for Drift sword but softer and that how some of the plastic feels on Sideswipe. Also, in alt mode, his chest piece drags on the ground so u can't even roll him either smh. He jus feels like a toy I got from the dollar store. Highly disappointed with him.

I was thinking about that so I made sure to go over the figure carefully. Things do peg together but they don't hold. Also those panels next to the head have to be there, rotating them down really pushes the arms out, and up locks the shoulders.

Nail polish, floor polish, prayer, sanding, blood sacrifices those can all work, but in the year 2015 I don't feel you should have to "fix" a new toy.

While I fully agree, the idea of fixing toys is more of a recent one sadly. I never had to fix any of my toys when I was younger.

You're absolutely 100% correct. If I had a toy and it broke 9 time out of 10 it was because I was stupid. Depending on the damage most vintage Transformers can be fixed if you know what you're doing. I'm not sure if I can say that about figures released more recently.

I found him yesterday, and I agree with the general sentiment. Car mode is REALLY nice (and the pale kanji makes it look like the car is intentionally bi-coloured rather than paint and plastic being off from one another) but his robot mode doesn't want to quite hold together. It's not as bad as say, Blitzwing; you can move his arms around a bit without his upper body coming apart, but if you try to get any dynamic poses you will be pegging him back together. It just seems as if the designer underestimated how deep the connector pegs would need to be due to the soft oily plastic used.

In short he's a quite reasonable figure to get at retail value, especially if you're trying to get all onscreen characters but don't go mad hunting him down.

Sideswipe can work with a little effort.

First, make sure the chest plate is securely fastened against his sternum.
Second, gently slide the shoulders into place and make sure the tiny pegs are actually sitting in the tiny holes. (This is the hardest part.)
Finally, push the hood piece up against the fenders/collar and it'll force the shoulders to lock in and he becomes poseable.

If you bump the hood loose, however, the whole thing comes apart. (Terrible design.) It also gives him tremendous backpack.

AB32 your optimism is always appreciated. :D
I am sad to hear he is kind of a turd. Probably wont stop me from getting him. I'm a sucker like that.
I will say, I picked up Legion Swipe the other day. He's real fun. If your into that kinda thing. He has really nice leg and feet articulation.(again, for a Legion.)

Yeah I discovered using the backpack works like you said. I find it interesting that thus far the toys of the non main cast have tended to be better. Drift? Phenomenal. Jazz? Perfect.

I think Bumblebee has a nice balance, but he's got some issues, sure.

Grimlock seems to be nice and solid, just wish he had a weapon of some kind.

Shellformery she may be, but I genuinely like transforming Strongarm back and forth. She poses well, too.

Steeljaw makes for a nice villain with that beast mode and poseable tail, but yeah, he's kind of weak in that wave.

Optimus? Don't own. Can't comment.

Drift? Much like Bumblebee, well balanced, but has a nice range of motion. Just wish his legs weren't hollow.

Jazz? SOLID. Fantastic figure!

Sideswipe? Visually appealing, if you transform him a certain way, he works. In anything else, he's kind of a pain. His transformation is too complex for a kids line, his vehicle mode looks kinda ugly, honestly and he can't hold his sword to save his life.

It's like he's an afterthought and they said "Meh, do it."

Sideswipe can hold the sword quite well, the trick is to not push it all the way in, yeah I know that sounds weird.

Huh...I see the notch on the handle now. The thumb rests right in it, yeah. Weird design choice. He's more for posing, than for playing. Jazz, on the other hand, does both.

The new class of Transformers: Robots in Disguise toys, Deployers, has been seen at NY Toy Fair - in video form too - but we now have official stock photography in addition to the one previously released of both Decepticon Fracture (with Airrazor) and Autobot Drift (with Jetstorm) thanks to the Peruvian Hasbro Transformers site! so this is the new version of the FOC Data Disc dudes? Technically same universe family and all.

One thing I do like is that the accessory sprue is the shape of the faction symbols. That was a cool idea.

Still can't tell if these are Deluxe or Voyager class robot height toys? :???:

If Fracture is a Voyager class robot, Then i'll buy it. Like the design and colors. Hover bike is very original.

Don't like the Drift design or colors. regardless of size i'm not interested. Robot doesn't seem too articulated. Robot Sculpt and colors remind me of a Power Rangers Zord toy.

The minicons do look interesting in sculpt and gimmick but not very articulated.

Yeah, the minicons definitely look better than the actual deployers themselves. I hope I can get all the minicons individually and not have to buy the bigger two packs to complete the mystery figure you can make with all the clear plastic accessories.

Also, I dont think these are deluxes or voyagers, these are more akin to the megas of the beast war era (like Inferno and Polarclaw).

Also, stop bashing that kid, he's cute and not that creepy (it's the older kids that creep me out). Kudos to him landing this modelling gig and being paid more than any of us for an hour of his time (when he gets work, of course).

And lastly, while sideswipe may not be great, there is a whole bunch of paint and clear plastic usage, reminding me of the previous RID (2001) figures (in a good way). Someone said that Takara's Groove couldnt have been made by Hasbro due to using clear plastic in the deluxe class. Well, with Sideswipe here, I don't think that specific part of the argument holds water anymore.

Not trying to be a wisenhiemer, but one could argue that their deployers ARE their weapons. That said, I agree. Whats Drift without his swords?

These seem smaller than I remember seeing at Toy Fair. Actually kind of relieved, because then they wont take up as much realestate on the shelf.

Found Jazz today. He is real cool. Like Miles Davis cool.
His transformation is so awesomely akin to his G1 self. Real intuitive and smooth. Proof again that the Jazz/Datsun transformation is a classic that's withstood the test of time. Really like how the arms form the front end of the car. He has some hollowness, but I think he looks pretty good. Maybe because he's mostly white helps his lack of paint not be so jarring. The paint he does have is applied nicely.
Solid figure, fun transform, decent articulation, and cool alt mode.

Plus, now I got my own Carytheone action figure.

There is no butt flap, the Javelin is alright but the lack of wrist articulation makes it difficult to hold in any real Javelin poses.

The butt/back flap tabs in nicely to his back. Lance is fine. Glad it can be held upright.
Articulation is over all fine. Weakest part is the shoulders. A lot like Prime Bee. Nice play in the ankles, and feet are nice and big for balance.

He's good, but my gut says 2nd to Drift. Nostalgia is working on me too though.

Glad you like him! Buuut... I'm surprised to hear you say that the lack of paint helps his hollowness and you're ok with it, cause it sure didn't help Jetfire. Not that I'm trying to hate, I love Jetfire, but I honestly see myself skipping Jazz, at least in favour of a better deco'd Takara version.

Yeah, at the current prices, I dont see myself buying the hasbro version to any of these, aside from probable alternate decos that are hasbro exclusive. Or TRU exclusives that will be super reduced in price (like the Predacon rising toys i bought from target). More info on this soon...

Ya big tease ;-)

I plan on picking up my mini me as soon as I see him at retail. I'm glad to hear positive reviews of the figure.

Pretty big news for the Robots in Disguise line. We previously wrote a long list of upcoming figures hinted at in the app. Some of them had a "Clash" subtitle which hinted at another sub-line. Well we finally have confirmation, and not just from Hasbro, but from an actual sighting in Australia (provided by Ozformers).

The sighting lets us know that the Clash of Transformers is a sub-line of Toysrus exclusive redecos of the legion class. It is also so far the only way of procuring Legion Megatronus and the pictures offer us the very first look at this toy.

The two packs found are Bumblebee VS Underbite and Optimus Prime VS Megatronus, whose pictures can be found below. They were found in at Toys R Us in Parramatta, Australia, and each pack was 20$ AUD.

Thought Megatronus was holding a handbag in that artwork.

Ok, so if this goes with the Aligned continuity is Megatronus supposed to be Megatronus Prime? The Fallen?Or just some dude calling himself Megatronus like Megatron did?

We don't know yet but you will get a better chance of answers in the actual show thread which deals with story.

No he won't, no one knows at all yet  I'm curious what the deal is too. Is this some weird upgraded version of a villain we've already seen? The toy's alt mode is a lot like Shockwave's, something to do with him?

I personally think it's Steeljaw + Dark Energon of some kind, thanks to the art we've seen on the toy's box (see, can totally make this discussion about toys while avoiding the show thread since I'm behind and I'm trying to avoid spoilers ;) )
