From memory both G1 Metroplex and Trypticon had the ability to combine with the individual team leaders 'base' modes. So would they be considered part of Combiner wars as well?

The G1 Metroplex toy had ports for the combiner limbs to attach to. But Generations Metroplex doesn't.

And, his box unambiguously declared him to be a Generations Thrilling 30 toy, as Generations Combiner Wars didn't yet exist.

What is all this about Prowl? What am I missing?

I thought we already learned that Hasbro uses "classes" to differentiate price points, not toy size. It's about the cost of production, including engineering, raw materials used, and complexity of assembly and deco applications.

Unfortunately, all though this would make perfect sense, it just isn't always true. Consider RotF leaders OP and Megatron. One was amazingly complex, the other looks like a rush job. The TFA leader class figures released about the same time were significantly simpler and smaller, yet cost the same. Also, Classics BB and CJ were tiny and simple compared to the other deluxes in the wave.

Classics Bumblebee and Cliffjumper also came with larger accessories, that also transformed, to compensate for their smaller size. Keep in mind too that most figures are not shipped in isolation, but in "assortments." It's been revealed long ago that some figures in an assortment get a little more deco or another accessory as long as another figure in the assortment can go without. Both will get the same price at retail, because it evens out in the end. Also remember that "simple" transformation doesn't necessarily mean simple engineering. The TFA figures, while easy to transform, were quite marvelous in terms of engineering, being able to translate the extremely stylized designs of the cartoon into three dimensional toy form with remarkable fidelity to the character models.

Well, Devastator deserves some good treatment after:

A) Being made a fool of in the G1 season 2 episodes so many times. It became a standing joke among my friends that every time Devastator showed up, it meant the Decepticons would LOSE

B) Being made a fool of by Michael Bay. Wrecking 'balls'. Nuff said.

The only way this combiner would really win is if they develop a Prowl that can also become part of Devestator.

That is probably the most important consideration for me.

Hm. Well, I'll still hold hope out for the other combiners in future lines. If the CW line does really well, Hasbro will be back with more of it. I think they're doing this (partly) to try and put a bit of a kibosh on all the 3rd party manufacturers who have been running rings around Hasbro (in terms of quality and coolness) with their own remakes of the combiner teams (like Warbotron/Not Bruticus). The 3rd party peeps have made big, bad Hasbro look like idiots by totally skunking them with better figures. This might be Hasbro's way of trying to get their market share back.

We should probably expect it to be some form of the G1 version, like the rest of the CW toys are. If it appears in fiction, IDW G1 seems most likely.

As for the height, stacking a few Voyagers on top of each other might give us an idea.

Hasbro was way of the hook of my negatism when I heard the words Generations Arcee & Combiner Wars.
So they were in the clear for 2014, and are already way in the clear for 2015.

Dear gawd, I'm so going to buy every single Combiner Wars figure, eventhough I don't have the space for it.

What is all this about Prowl? What am I missing?

Comics fiction: Prowl is currently the head (heh) of the Constructicons, with one of their number dead, some past mind control, and a shared purpose.

At this point in the game, we can get third party anything. But I digress; either way is a win in my book. If they go traditional, it'll look good among my Classics shelves; if they go IDW as of late, I'd be down for that (as I really like what IDW's been doing thus far).

In the current comics Scrapper got scrapped, Hook took his place as a leg, and Prowl was turned into a new torso for Devastator. Part of Megatron's experiments for a more modular gestalt in which anyone, including Megatron, could become his head.

I think the real questions are.
1) When will they reveal this beast?. Hopefully the next toy fair.
2) Is there a chance of a UK release?.
3) and Just how many Erectors can one man get about a toy that's not even been revealed yet.

I feel Hasbro may release a SDCC exclusive set for Devy like they did with Metroplex.
