If you mean what it's reading, it looks like the dot and dash patterns around the badges are unique. It will just use the camera to scan the dot pattern like a QR or bar code only much simpler.

Well, don't lose hope on that, but you might be waiting a long time for those.

At BotCon 2014, me and the guys I was hanging out with had lunch with two members of the current Hasbro TF design team. I believe they were Ben Montano and Lenny Panzica. During the lunch, we got talking about things we'd never ever expect Hasbro to ever make, and I brought up the idea of "show-accurate, fully articulated, regular style Deluxe or Voyager versions of the Rescue Bots," and the two of them were like "Now, wait, hold on sec!" They didn't see that idea as much of an impossibility as I suggested it would be, and gave a convincing argument for why Hasbro would be willing to make those kinds of toys, but at some point further down the road in the future rather than any time soon.

They based their logic on how kids who grew up on Beast Wars and Armada are showing interest in the Generations toys for Waspinator/Rhinox/Rattrap and Armada Starscream, and so rationalized that kids who grow up on Rescue Bots now would similarly show a likely interest in getting better toy versions of those characters when they get older, based on that same kind of nostalgia that those who grew up on Beast Wars and Armada display for the Generations toys of those series' characters.

So, yeah, they are well aware of the demand for something like Generations toys for the Rescue Bots, but feel they would do better for not just the collectors of today but for kids of today as well when those kids grow up and graduate into the more advanced lines in the years to come, to better capitalize on the nostalgia they (and we adult fans of the show) would come to have. So if we do ever get Generations Rescue Bots, they'll probably come along in the not-too-near future. But better later than never at all.

Why do we need to have the same characters at every price point anyways? Why not have different characters occupy different price points like they did roughly from Beast Wars to Animated, rather than making Bumblebee in every shape and size?

It's the strategy they implemented with the first movie, I think it was in response to customer/retailer complaints; make the core/popular characters in all the price points/sizes.

For the first three movies and the cartoons from that time period, it was still not quite on the level it's become with AoE and the new RiD show, though.

I think they added a few sub-lines to have an even cheaper price point. Remember for some even a Legion/Legends figure might be too expensive.

I still hate that green thing. It reminds me of when Hasbro used the name Grimlock in Robots in Disguise for that other green thing. I don't think I'm ever going to stop being bitter about this. Oh well, at least I'll still be able to get a lobster car Decepticon out of this toyline.

I think it's more that they used the name Grimlock on a character that isn't Grimlock. If the character was Grimlock, the guy from G1/Fall of Cybertron, then that would be different, I would be fine with that even if it was green, or blue, or all grey and black with some green mossy bits. It's like if they took Scorponok and turned him into a rapper. It just doesn't suit the character at all.

With the Masterpiece line, the Generations line, and the Combiner Wars line, along with whatever 3rd party things you buy, I don't think you need to worry about saving money.

the legion figures look nice but everything else looks terrible, and like many others im not digging the green grimock.

I actually find UNderbite quite the interesting one step changer. When I first saw the pics, he looked really unappealing, but now that I know he transforms in just a step, the vehicle and beat mode make mroe sense to look the way they do and the instructions marked on his box show us a new type of one step transformation I had not seen before.

The vehicle mode is particularly odd in a real interesting way:

He's there but at a different angle. And this time it's coloured plastic and not fully painted like all Hasbro Stock images are initially (and in less perfect lighting and so on).

Hmm, while I like the style of the designs, none of the figures are really doing it for me so far. I'm probably going to skip this line other than an Optimus Prime if they do a good one. More money for Combiner Wars.

Like I said, it's not so much the colour as it is the characters personality that bothers me, and in fact I rather like the AoE Grimlock.
