They actually sold out by a month and few days. I'd say that's pretty incredible. Not only that, but they made a higher production run then last year and that set didn't sell out.

The defning outcry about it's expense was huge and yet the set is now sold out.
The bubbling anger of 3 out of the 6 popular seekers being in this set versus mass retail and yet the set is now sold out.
The huge cries of people saying I'm not going to throw away $300 on three seekers and yet this set is now sold out.
I wonder if anyone who spent their time being so angry are pissed for a different reason of now not being able to get the set. I guess in this case it's "you whine, you lose".

I ordered two sets with my Primus package that have thankfully been confirmed. I'm glad I did as interest among my mates has been lively, and I'm pretty sure the contents of both sets are now spoken for! I'd better get in quick for the on-the-day exclusives, too.

I haven't seen the others get sold out before so that's impressive, but then look at the amount of interest Botcon got this year as opposed to prior years.
Going to be very hard to find the other exclusives for non-attendees

The only complaint I'm going to have is if they do not have enough of the souvenier sets for those that want them.
I swear, if I don't get my Alpha Trion...worlds will burn.

Better pray they have competent staff working this year then. They were suppose to punch our ID cards when we bought our souvenier sets. He forgot to punch mine, so I went back and got a second Megatron/Waspinator set for Prof. Smooth.

Not to mention, the same guy gave me the Lazerbeak/Buzzsaw set when I only bought the Megatron/Waspinator set for myself.

I was just planning today on how I was going to be able to save up enough money to order that next week, & now this.
Crap.
Oh, & the best thing about it....since they're doing it in the set, there's no way in hell any of those other 3 seekers will ever see a retail shelf.
.....sorry, I'm just really bummed right now. The set was supposed to be a birthday present, even had a rather heated argument with my wife today about wether or not we could afford it, & after I finally get her talked into getting it, this happens.....

The insistence of those willing to pay $300 for 5 little figures that it would never have sold enough to justify a slightly larger limited specialty-market production run at a lower retail cost and yet this set is now sold out in less than 2 months.

In case you have not heard, the boxed BotCon sets (Primus and Iacon) are now sold out. We appreciate all you who have applauded our efforts to bring you this outstanding set. It is our goal to bring you the best products that we can conceive.
All of the sets have been manufactured and we thought an uplift of 33 per cent over last year would be enough. The reason we did not announce the edition quantity when we first announced the set was that we were hoping to be able to make just enough to meet demand. We did have an opportunity to raise the quantity one time before the final production started. We thought that 1,050 would be enough but, it looks like there was demand past this number. It is very hard to forecast these numbers. In the future, the faster you register, the better able we are to adjust the quantity manufactured to the demand desired. Our goal is not to under produce or over produce. We want everyone that wants a set to have the opportunity to purchase them at issue price. The other main limiter we had for the number of sets is the capacity of the rooms for the Saturday night dinner event. There just isn't any more space left.
Here are some of the questions we are getting:
Q: Can I still come to BotCon if I don't have a Primus package?
A: Sure you can. You can come as a Protoform (all access, just no toys or dinner event on Saturday night) or General Admission (Saturday and/or Sunday only).
Q: Can I add on a Mini-Con package for someone to come with me?
A: No. We are at capacity for the Saturday night dinner event.
Q: Can I still get movie tickets for Thursday night?
A: Yes, but you must be a registered package holder and attending to order movie tickets.
Q: Can I still get in the drawing for the last 100 seats for the Hasbro visit if I sign up as a Protoform?
A: Yes, until May 31. Those selected for the visit will be posted at BotCon.com on June 1.
Q: If I have a Primus or Iacon package, can I still add on a loose set?
A: Yes, until we run out. You are limited to one loose set per boxed set.
Q: How many loose sets are being offered?
A: 400
Q: Since you have run out of boxed sets, can I just order a loose one?
A: No.
Q: When will I get my written confirmation?
A: Sometime around the end of May.
Q: Are there Dealer booths still available.
A: Yes, but don't delay.
Q: I heard there was a different charity event for the Movie on Thursday night that is $75. Does this have anything to do with our screening?
A: No. This event is for local Hasbro charity patrons and is not at the same time or in the same theatres as the BotCon screening. The funds from this event will go to the same charities as ours.
Q: If I sent in my application in the last couple of days, when will I get a confirmation that you have accepted my application?
A: By the end of next week.
Q: If my application is not accepted, will I receive notification as well?
A: Yes.
####
I hope that answers most of your questions.
As to prior year's sets. We have 4 sets left from the 2006 BotCon Dawn of Futures Past, and 254 of the 2005 BotCon Descent into Evil. These are available in the club store at transformersclub.com/shop
We also have loaded the remainder of the Astrotrain and Airazor figures in the store.
Thanks again for your support and we look forward to the best BotCon ever!

Was there really any doubt it would sell? There's no shortage of people out there eager to part with their money.
And why is it everytime someone complains, it's 'whining?'

Whining is ceaseless complaining in the face of largely overwhelming facts, most of which essentially have no chance of changing.
For example, complaining about the price of the toys inspite of the rational argument that small production runs cost more, is complaining.

1. n expression of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment.
2. A cause or reason for complaining; a grievance.

However the sheer number of "Hasbro suxxs", "FunPub is cheating us" etc. are nothing but whining. And those are the people who simply need to STFU and move on with life.

tentagil wrote:To complain incessantly about something you know won't change pretty much fits in definition number two there. And the more alot of people complained the more childish they've gotten about it. Thus they have been whining. Note that not everyone who has complained in the fandom has been whining. Some have made their grievance known and then moved on, others had made sure that when they complained it was in a logical fashion with ideas and references to ways that it could possibly be fixed.

If Hasbro mass produced Thrust, he would likely have the same wings as Ramjet because Hasbro wouldn't want to pony up the cash for a remold of a figure that made it to clearance in large quantities (in my area at least).

Because they can't now. Once it's a botcon exclusive, they can't produce one and sell it at retail.
I'd like to see them make a Thrust mold, paint it a different color, then sell it at retail. I'd buy two, one to repaint into Thrust's colors, and one to leave unaltered. Legally, they could do that.

That's sad. I want a Ramjet and haven't even seen one yet. If they are on clearance, maybe I can get them off eBay at regular price then.

Whining is ceaseless complaining in the face of largely overwhelming facts, most of which essentially have no chance of changing.
For example, complaining about the price of the toys inspite of the rational argument that small production runs cost more, is complaining.
I made my point about whining because from when the box sets were announced on through the first few figs that were previewed there were a fair amount of people that were Hasbro bashing and doing pointless complaining about the choice of the figures for the convention exclusive set.
Alot of these "complaints" people were making had no point or at least there was no valid point being made. I can accept some collectors and people not liking Hasbro. I'm sure Hasbro has done somethings and made some business decisions that hasn't made some collectors happy. But Hasbro is making Transformers that we still enjoy. Credit should be given where credit is due.
Besides, it's been said before but I'll say it again for the sake of argument. The decision of which figures to include in the box set was made before they announced the set to the public. So our outcry as fans was really rather pointless if you take that into consideration. No amount of valid complaining or whining was going to change the decision or convince Hasbro to make them available to mass retail.
So yes, after all of the whining and complaining, the box set still sold out. I guess alot of us fans and collectors just accepted what couldn't be changed and ponied up the moolah to complete our Classics seekers. Score for us!
