Yeah it does but funny how they dont show much of that waist swivel and its usage. Or side views
:-? Reminds me of how we were just aware of Tracks' massive gap when we got it in hand.

He really does have very odd proportions.

Anyone notice how the clavicals dont connect to his chest? Its like he is tearing at the seams with his innerds visible at both sides of his upper chest.

That's it i am getting this and selling the Hasbro one i have.

The only thing i am missing is a Targetmaster and the ability to fit Daniel and Spike inside Hot Rod in carmode. They should've gone with that instead of the stupid fishing rod.

His proportions make him look like he's from Transformers Prime.

Honestly, what I'd really like to see is a comparison pic with this one and the first version of Roddy. I'm kind of on the fence about whether I want the newer version or the one that turns into Rodimus Prime (as chintzy as it is).

Looks like you can hide some of his more unappealing proportions with so good poses. Profound is my favorite so I will have to get him.

Was having trouble with the pic on my end as well, which is why I tried linking to it instead of embedding it (it wouldn't upload to a hosting site either).

Canopy is now OFF. Yeah, I was super sad. I kept reading the forums about MP28 and DX9 Carry and was like "You know what, I've got a cool Rodimus Prime. He's fiddly, but he scan still transform and stuff!"
Image
Canopy fell right off after I unhinged the backpack and his chest. Luckily, I found all of the little bits (to potentially re-attach). It somehow still holds the chest in place when I have it all sandwiched back together. If you move his arms without holding the chest it all falls apart again.

I also found it weird that one pin tab broke into pieces off of the canopy, and the other stayed attached..

But yeah, MP28 can't get here fast enough.

Maybe I'll start customizing with TRU MP09, it can't get WORSE right?!

I sold my MP09 v2 and don't regret a thing. Made a pretty penny too.

Besides, I still have my Hasbro version MISB. I figure he'll make a nice display piece, and I can actually open and fiddle with MP28.

Man, I still don't know. Scale-wise, I think the new one fits well with the others as Hot Rod, but the old one makes a good Prime (as in: he should have gotten that much taller when the Matrix changed him). I was leaning towards the old one because I wanted a Hot Rod and a Rodimus Prime, but I don't think I want to buy two figures for that. :(

'Course, we had to in the '80s. Except they didn't cost $80+ back then. ;)

I think I prefer the look of MP-28 from the waist down, but MP-9 from the waist up. MP-28 has nicer-looking legs but worse-looking upper body proportions.

Agreed, plus I didnt realze until now how I much prefer the way the legs are coloured on MP-26.

Overall, I am surprised how Takara has had such a tough time getting this important character right.

MP-26 Road Rage?

Anyway, still loving MP-09 despite all of his breakages but this guy is definitely the better figure.

I wish they'd update MP-09 and Make him more durable.

Ya'll know the real reason Takara gave Hot Rodimus so much knee articulation? So that the toy could kneel like in "The Burden Hardest to Bear", which the Japanese seem to like a lot for obvious reasons.

I still want him, but I still prefer the upper part of MP09. I'm curious. Does his arms flip around when going into Car Mode? I noticed the picture with his back part of the car down, but the front wheels are still on his back. So do they flip like we see in his Transformation sequence when they were on the Quintesson Planet in the '86 film?

Unfortunately no. I think we looked into this, and the arms don't do that cool transformation. Much disappointment :BOT:

You guys remember a few months ago when we had the post-pyramid with the awesome potential transformations and then Seibertron crashed and we lost it and then Sabrblade put it back?! Good times.

So what if we rotate the figure in mid-air whilst transforming..same effect right?! Woo!! :michaelbay:

Hoping he gets a repaint like other recent figures.

I'd guess Side Burn and SG Rodimus would be some people's contenders but what I'm hoping for is a Marvel Comics themed deco with choice of G1 and G2 stickers.

Vanilla Takara, no. But e-HOBBY did do the SG Soundwave vs. SG Blaster exclusive set, which counts as a Takara product but only as a special one rather than a regular one.

Not typically but MP G2 Bumblebee was their first G2 Bumblebee. G2 Sideswipe was their first G2 Sideswipe.

They like homaging non-Japanese released stuff in repaints. And they like redecoing things black.

Oh and this is loosely related but I'm hearing buzz that Hasbro is releasing a Platinum series boxed set with decos of Generations Galvatron and Titanium Rodimus.

I had that Rodimus but sold him because he scratched too easily. If the new one is all plastic, I might be up for that. Any word on it?

Following the previous in-hand images and size comparison; fellow Seibertronian King Dork has alerted us to a video transformation of TakaraTomy's MP-28 Hot Rod. The video is not narrated, but a possible issue with ground clearance is pointed out. After you watch the video refresh your memory with our gallery of MP-09 Rodimus Prime.

Do you have have MP-28 on pre-order? Did this video change your mind? Is the ground clearance issue a possible mis-transformation? Hit the jump and tell us what you think in the discussion below.

I'm still unsure. The transformation is really nice and meaty but also super delicate. I see myself breaking him after transforming him multiple times, especially those clear plastic tabs. One thing though, I no longer have any issue with the backpack, it just makes him look a bit more beefy but I have no problem with that. If I were to get him, he would actually serve as Rodimus Prime next to Arcee, Springer and CW Ultra Magnus since the added bulk works well with that leader character.

I'll still pick him up. The transformation looks fun, and most of all, a billion times simpler than MP Rodimus Prime. Some of the pieces on previous MPs are delicate as well, so that's not an issue for me.
