Our own Grifter Prime has brought us some interesting news about an event that involved General Motors and Transformers. General Motors introduced upcoming Transformers Movie stars Bumblebee, Autobot Jazz, Autobot Ratchet, and Ironhide at its sixth annual "ten" pre-Oscar fashion event at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood. Live-Action Movie's 'Heroes' Attend 6th Annual GM Ten Event; DreamWorks/Paramount Film Slated to Debut July 4

LOS ANGELES – Four new movie stars – "Bumblebee," "Autobot Jazz," "Autobot Ratchet" and "Ironhide" – from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures', in association with Hasbro's, forthcoming July 4th action-adventure release, "Transformers," were introduced this evening by General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM) as it hosted its sixth annual "ten" pre-Oscar fashion event at Paramount Pictures in Hollywood.

"Bumblebee" changes from the classic Chevrolet Camaro, and is a central character in the saga of aliens who take mechanical forms when on Earth "Autobot Jazz" converts from a Pontiac Solstice in a hardtop format. A Hummer H2, modified as a rescue vehicle, changes into "Autobot Ratchet" and "Ironhide" changes from a GMC TopKick medium-duty truck. They all star in this summer's live-action blockbuster, "Transformers," from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures, in association with Hasbro, which will premiere July 4.

Buzz about the roles that these vehicles play in the movie has been spreading since a quick glimpse of the new Camaro was spotted in Paramount's newest "Transformers" trailer, which began appearing in theaters on Dec. 20, 2006. This clip, which is currently the most-viewed movie trailer on Yahoo!, also contains images of the Solstice, H2 and TopKick for fans who were quick enough to have freeze-framed it.

"'Transformers' is a compelling project and offers us a global platform for marketing GM products and building our brands," said Mike Jackson, GM North America vice president, marketing and advertising. "It represents the perfect intersection of entertainment, marketing and design."

"The first time I saw the new Camaro, while touring the GM Design Center, I knew immediately that it would be the perfect 'Bumblebee,'" said Michael Bay, the film's Director. He continued, "It's got beautiful lines and a classic, timeless look. There were no other cars that came even close. I have had a great working relationship with GM for many years and am psyched to be working with them on 'Transformers.'"

Gerry Rich, President of Worldwide Marketing at Paramount Pictures, added, "We are thrilled to be working with GM on this incredible and action-packed film. Having integrated the cars as characters in the film is truly an innovative concept that will help eventize this exciting 4th of July tentpole film."

GM will roll out a fully integrated marketing and promotional effort around the film in the near future, including a major Chevrolet promotion, according to Jackson.

Goes to show how much Bay knows about TF's if he immediately felt the Camaro was a perfect fit for Bumblebee. That makes for one of the most inappropriate choices of characterization for me.

Nothing realy new in all that.

As for Bays comment about the classic Camaro being perfect for BB with nothing coming close, well, not to nitpick, but the Trans-Am for that year was the same thing with a pointer front.

Sorry, had to say it.

However, my first car was a beat up old Camaro that looked just like BumbleBee, I'm gonna have to paint him white.

Oh yeah

Don't forget Ford's got its own stake in this too since Barricade is a Mustang cop car. But they are not going to be getting as much from this as GM is.

Hey, I think it would be really nice to have Autobot Track added in the live-action Transformers movie as a dark blue, 2008 Corvette Z06....and like the old G1 Transformers cartoon, Track's car mode can fly in the air and kick ugly movie Starscream in the butt lol!! :-?

If Autobot Track is not in the 1st movie, I'm hoping we will see him in the 2nd Transformers live-action movie with Autobot Hound as a Jeep Wrangler....that would be sooo cool....more cool if Michael Bay and his team decided to add the Stunticons in the 2nd or 3rd live-action movie of the Transformers.

Hey, we Transfans can only hope for the best....right??? I think I'm wetting myself here....g2g lol

Win Bumblebee! I can see it now, having a prize of one of the 4 cars that star in the movie.. maybe 4 grand prize winners and each get to pick one.

Actually, it says he spotted the classic lines of the new Camaro, of which there aren't any plans for a Firebird/Trans Am version.

Anyhow, Im pretty sure that line about the Camaro is Bay doing some solid marketing.

As far as promotions, I think theres rumors of being able to get the movie edition camaro in yellow/black with the autobot symbols from the factory.

*sigh*

What Michael Bay means is that for the character the writers had scripted for Bumblebee's role, the Camaro was the perfect fit. He was not saying, "OMG that Camaro looks just like a VW bug!"
