Nice idea but only problem is that it doesn't use the cw molds :P

Are the Souvenir sets confirmed to?

I'd think Prime/RiD/Generations would still be in play for secondary figures.

I guess we could scratch a Prowl repaint of Drift off my wishlist too. :-)

Well, looking at what we got for last years set and what didn't get used, I wonder if we can make any possible connections to non-cw molds.

Molds (and remolds) released at the end of Generations not used for Exclusives yet:
Voyager Sandstorm
Voyager Doubledealer
Voyager Whirl
Voyager Skybyte into Transmetal Cybershark?
Voyager Brainstorm
Deluxe Tankor into Pre-Beast Scorponok?
Deluxe Arcee
Deluxe Chromia
Deluxe Windblade
Deluxe Jhiaxus
Deluxe Blackarachnia (Japan) into Botcon Arcee?

Feel free to add any others I missed.

In retrospect, its also interesting foreshading. Though I do not approve of random redecos, this is something I found online. I would say kill it with fire, but we can still have fun with it: Two ways to make Stranglehold!

If it were possible, I'd much rather see Stranghold made from the old Transmetal Rhinox mold, as that one works a lot like how the ROTF Bludgeon and Generations Thunderwing molds work, having a mechanical rhino altmode that would callback to Strangehold's inner robot altmode that changes into an organic-looking bare-chested macho man that would callback to Stranglehold's Pretender Shell.

Windblade or Brainstorm could work as Airazor. I think the Brainstorm mold would be tempting to use somewhere because it apparently is cross-compatible with the Titans Return toys.

Doubledealer as Tripredacus Lazerbeak (We're about to get a second pre-BW Tarantulas, after all)

Maybe Jhiaxus and Japanese Blackarachnia as another pre-BW Waspinator vs. Arcee?

Throw in a Legends figure as pre-BW Rat Trap.

So you get a Maximal Arcee with her "nephew" Rattrap (not a beast yet) and a pre-Darksyde Waspinator from the Jhiaxus mold. Legends Groove as Rattrap?

If RiD molds are fair game, they might be able to recolor warrior Steeljaw so he looks like Noble in robot mode but has a red vehicle mode with detailing that suggests Savage.

Hmmm...

Voyager Sandstorm => Transmetal Megatron
Deluxe Windblade => Transmetal Terrorsaur
Deluxe Chromia => Transmetal Blackarachnia
Voyager Whirl => Inferno
Legion Bumblebee => Quickstrike

Combiner Wars Motormaster => Transmetal Optimus Primal
CW Blackjack => Transmetal Rattrap
CW Brawl => Transmetal Rhinox
CW Prowl => Transmetal Cheetor & Tigatron
CW Firefly => Transmetal Air-Razor

(Would sure like to have BW Fuzor Silverbolt out of Air-Raid, though.)

Also, has it been established whether Predacus was originally planned as a straight retool of Computron? Tarantulas from Afterburner, Ravage from Lightspeed, Cicadacon from Strafe...

Voyager Sandstorm => Transmetal Megatron (this I like)

Deluxe Windblade => Transmetal Terrorsaur (let's try to leave trans-gendering alone for now, he could work as quickslinger or skydive, since he and terrorsaur are both pretty lithe)

Deluxe Chromia => Transmetal Blackarachnia (could work, would be cool if they made the windscreen dark translucent smoked plastic and put some spider motif decals on it)

Voyager Whirl => Inferno (just, no; the builds are too dissimilar, and neither form really say inferno on any level)

Legion Bumblebee => Quickstrike (this doesn't even make remote sense, plus they don't do legion figures, plus he was never on cybertron to have a form representative of that)

Combiner Wars Motormaster => Transmetal Optimus Primal (while it could work, I don't think people really want more of this mold, as it is unarguably the weakest torso)

CW Blackjack => Transmetal Rattrap (groove would be a nicer throwback, and keep in line with the fact that he has been established as having been a motorcycle previously at botcon)

CW Brawl => Transmetal Rhinox (no, that doesn't suit his character at all, while it could be a cutesy nod to his aggression and future as tankor, it wouldn't work as him from before all of bw happened [depending on when this is set] I could see him as first-aid to emulate his medic capabilities, or as rook to emulate his bulk, plus his cattle-prod could become an engineering tool to reference his engineering capabilities)

CW Prowl => Transmetal Cheetor & Tigatron (cheetor, yes, but if we're talking speed, breakdown would work better with the hood engine adding to that perception. Tigatron never struck me as speedy, it wasn't in his nature, so perhaps use swindle to reference his constant need to be in the wild by making him an offroad jeep - or they could go full on cutesy and redeco ravage as botcon tigatron)

CW Firefly => Transmetal Air-Razor (airriad would work much better due to the wingspan and having wings that are adjustable like a birds, or skydive, since that has a more feminine shaped body)

Most of those don't even make sense, let's try to avoid pulling a hasbro by trying to cram every figure ever made into molds that don't suit them. I'm not trying to quash your opinion, but many of those make only the most superficial amount of sense.

However, I like tm megs from sandstorm, that I could see working pretty well, and would make more sense than a missile truck.

Re: "Dawn of the Predacus" BotCon 2016 set Discussion

Postby RodimusRex » Sun Nov 08, 2015 3:12 am

I was thinking about Cryotek. Where Botcon seems to be placing the Dawn of the Predacus set timeline was is actually the year 2016, just after the G2 and Machine Wars bots signed the Pax Cybertronia.

The Decepticons and Autobots are at peace and the Wings Universe take is that the Predacons (ie. the ones who form Predaking) are teaming up with Tarantulas, Ravage, and the Predacus transformers (who seem to have an odd past and who may well end up being plants sent by Unicron to reignite the Transformers civil war). The foundation of the Beast Wars Predacons are being established there in a world that looks like it will be Heroic Autobots and (mostly) Heroic Decepticons united against the evil Predacons.

This is a different setup than what we're used to. The Maximals don't seem to exist yet although we can probably infer that Arcee will be one of the first Maximals, based on tradition. Also, Maximal != having a Beast mode although Arcee will be a beast mode early adopter. I believe it's generally established in the lore that Rodimus becomes a Maximal car and the Axalon crew were Maximal vehicles. I don't know if the current Botcon/Funpud/Wings approach will be to adopt this but it seems likely to me that they will.

So keeping this all in mind, the boxed sets are rooted in a Beast/Machine Wars era several hundred years before the Axalon took off.

I think Spider-Arcee is likely due for a new figure in the not too distant future. I think Cryotek is a good candidate for a vehicle figure (and this may be, fictionally, a fairly young Cryotek, who goes on to mentor BW Megs).

Cryotek is established as looking like Cybertron Soundwave. Sandstorm might not be a bad Cryotek mold. RiD2015 Warrior Optimus would be an interesting choice. Fall of Cybertron or Beast Hunters Shockwave would also be logical steps.

I think Bat Convoy and Megaligator are strong contenders to get vehicle forms in the near future (although after Titan Wars launches, Titan Wars Skullcruncher seems like a sound choice to get a TFCC or Botcon redeco as one of the Megatron Alligator characters).

I think a lot of this is probably hewing towards the 2016 TFCC and Botcon set. I figure a big theme there will be The First Maximals and a pre-BW Cryotek is likely in there somewhere. Prowl, Ironhide, and Silverbolt are all being established as resurrected Autobots who act as early Maximals so that seems like a few strong candidates. Rockbuster and Big Convoy seem like strong choices also.

I imagine we're also moving to a new McGuffin energy source.

In general, I'd say:

G1 era: They fight over energon.

Post-movie: A lot of the fighting seems to be about the Matrix, later Nucleon.

G2/MW: Fighting over Forestonite (which turns your color neon) and clone bodies.

Early Beast Wars: The fight is probably going to be over Angelmois/Dark Energon, which is PROBABLY going to be Autobots/Decepticons/Maximals on one side vs. Predacons on the other for the rights to use Unicron's depleted spark as a fuel source.

Motto: "'till All Are One"
I dont get it, you would think we'd all have a case of mold fatigue but then if Hasbro were to read all the recent comments they'd be like "Man, we dont need to make new molds, all these people will just settle for repaints, quick scrap those plans for a new Transmetal Megatron mold".

PS: Granted, their actual plans for a TM Megatron was indeed a repaint, and I am personally glad it was scrapped. I dont need all my beast wars updates to be repaints.

Deluxe Windblade => Transmetal Terrorsaur (let's try to leave trans-gendering alone for now, he could work as quickslinger or skydive, since he and terrorsaur are both pretty lithe)

I'm not suggesting a Transgender character, I just don't think her body is that definitively female so much as just *lean* and it has the VTOL fans and boot jets TM Terrorsaur had.

Voyager Whirl => Inferno (just, no; the builds are too dissimilar, and neither form really say inferno on any level).

The toys feel immensely similar to me - both have a sort of odd posture, the head/canopy and claws line-up, the excessive firepower, and Inferno's weird flight mode is more helicopter like than any other character's altmode. Plus the mold would just look good in red.

Legion Bumblebee => Quickstrike (this doesn't even make remote sense, plus they don't do legion figures, plus he was never on cybertron to have a form representative of that)

Not the super tiny legion mold, the bigger one that came with a helicopter targetmaster. It's small, fast, has the flared feet, and the build of a brawler. And I havent seen any indication this is a BW prequel as oposed to an alternate universe.

Combiner Wars Motormaster => Transmetal Optimus Primal (while it could work, I don't think people really want more of this mold, as it is unarguably the weakest torso)

I'm just speculating what might happen, not what people would like. Trukmunky is low hanging fruit, and technically Motormaster's body, without the window chest, has only been used once. I'd prefer to have Optimal Optimus from Onslaught, but that seems unlikely, as the only real aesthetic tie in is the two cannons in vehicle mode.

CW Blackjack => Transmetal Rattrap (groove would be a nicer throwback, and keep in line with the fact that he has been established as having been a motorcycle previously at botcon)

But the groove mold doesn't combine with the truck mold, and Transmetal Rattrap had four wheels, not two.

Rhinox's immense, armored build and his gigantic overpowered weapons were always contrary to his characterization - it was part of his character.

Breakdown would require another headmold, when Prowl's fits well enough as is, and the two cats have almost always used the same mold.

CW Firefly => Transmetal Air-Razor (airriad would work much better due to the wingspan and having wings that are adjustable like a birds, or skydive, since that has a more feminine shaped body)

Air-Raid's wings are a better fit for her TM form, but Firefly's head is a better fit. Six of one and all of that.

Hellscream9999 wrote:Most of those don't even make sense, let's try to avoid pulling a hasbro by trying to cram every figure ever made into molds that don't suit them. I'm not trying to quash your opinion, but many of those make only the most superficial amount of sense.

(A) They make sense to me.
(B) Are we trying to give Hasbro pre-emptive feedback on something they've done but we don't know about yet? I was trying to guess what the other Botcon figures would be this year - in that vein, it makes sense to think like Hasbro would.
(C) I would think that telling someone what they say makes "only the most superficial amount of sense" and telling them to "avoid" saying things one disagrees with is effectively 'quashing' their opinion, whether or not one is trying to do so.

I'm kind of getting tired of people saying "that wouldn't make sense since [INSERT CHARACTER HERE] was born on Earth!" I wasn't really in the fandom back in 2006 but did this happen with Dawn of Future's Past? Both Tigatron and Airazor got figures back then and they were "born on Earth". I think we should be discussing the boxset and possible exclusives but shooting down someones idea just because a character was "born on Earth" means there out of the picture shouldn't be happening.

ANYWAYS... I'm really liking the idea of using Legends Blackarachnia as Arcee. I will continue to hope for Jhiaxus repainted as Onyx Primal cause I mean, come on, the face already has a bat-look to it.
Shhhhhhh... I was never here. You never got anything from me.
