And reading the comments after that nearly killed me. those were hilarious, even if Tony-Bravo had to show up to put things back on course :-P :BOT:

I haven't a shred of disdain for Breakdown and mates, I rather like the toys. I think the mold tanks Deadend, but maybe not Prowl.
But this right here sent me to the floor in a ball of laughter and tears.

Ah, thank you! Though Devastator technically is not THE figure of the year - we had many, and the article is trying to show the multiple views of people on staff. Devastator just happened to be agreed upon by more people. :D

I still think Superion was the best regular sized combiner and Devastator best combined overall. not individuals: combined. They were both very awesome :BOT:

I was looking back on this year and thinking what my favourite purchases were. So I cam up with a top 5 in no particular order, just to remember how lucky I have been.

So in February, I picked up a lot of random TFs, but it included a bunch of G1s I never had. None were in great shape, but it was a nice bunch and I was able to sell the rest of the stuff I already had for the same amount I paid, making Trypticon and friends essentially free :D

Image

Image

In march, I finally got a toy I had been wanting for years (there were 3 purchases like this in all this year): Big Convoy. He was ridiculously expensive 10 years ago but with the sonokong findings, this was cheaper than how much he went at retail, not even counting inflation

Image

Then, ten days later, I found an add for a box set of RID Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime (God Fire Convoy) for only 30$!!! I had been hoping to get this for less than 100$, but not this freaken low!

Image

Now, for the 2 people I havent told this to, Canada never got Generations Arcee, you know only the most wanted figure of the past 30 years! People were selling her locally for crazy amount. No way I was paying 40$ for that generations toy. And Takara's was so in demand, they had to cut people's orders. BUT they made more of her later, and rereleased her in August, so I jumped and got a perfect Arcee for around 25$ shipped instead

Image

And now we get to my final big purchase of the year and one of my favourites. I FINALLY got the RID bullet train team which is INSANELY hard to find at a decent price. And we arent talking takara here, the hasbro is hard to find at a decent price. Usually the only recourse is a Hasbro one that is second hand. This was definitely my white whale. And I had even written him off since I didnt think the toy would be worth that much money and hassel, even though I wanted it pretty badly. BUT a local shop had a takara version in box selling for half off on boxing day so I got my minty takara JRX for 54$ :michaelbay:

I wish I could say I picked up a long sort after figure ... but I can't, I pretty much have them all (still missing a number of the Masters and Pretenders though).

I guess all my purchases this year were released this year. So I guess as a favourite goes ... I'd have to say Devastator for a couple of reasons, other than him being awesome.

I got it before a lot of people did elsewhere in the world, which is a rare thing to happen.
I got to share the experience of the road trip to retrieve him, half expecting him to already have been sold out from under me.

Another fun purchase was Unite Warriors Defensor. I missed Premium Collectables pre-order so I spent many months stressing about how I was going to get him (I wanted Groove, plus I already went with UW Superion and Menasor) when out of the blue I got a shipping notice for him from RobotKingdom.

I'd completely forgotten I'd pre-ordered him from them!

It was! Aside from stressing about where to acquire him, it was also a case of finding the money for him as I had about $2,000 in bills coming due around that time.

So finding out I'd pre-ordered him and paid for him back when I got my tax refund, definitely a pleasant surprise.

Well Will, I just got around/time to read your post. Good stuffs ;)^

Now to answer your question:
william-james88 wrote:What were your favourite purchases this year?
My favorite purchase last year has a (hopefully) fun story much like Burn's (only less wasteland bandits were involved).

Way back when I went by the handle carytheweeone, I had two combiners; Defensor and Devastator. So really a good year for childhood memories. Anyways, I got the Protectobots all at once for either my birthday or Christmas. My parents promised me that they would get me Hot Spot when we found him at the store. So thus began my first hunt.

Many years later I walked into a Target and found all four of the CW Protectobots. I snapped them all up and started a very similar quest. The differences being there was a lot less begging, whining and crying when I was kid

I think I found Hot Spot at HTS or something, but it was kinda of a fun stroll down memory lane and completing Defensor was very satisfying.

I always love a good story like that Cary. ;)^

Not to deviate, but I have a similar story, just not transformers related. The show Battle Force 5 had 5 mains cars, and then added 2 backup cars in the 2nd season, back in 09-11. Well, I got the main 5 in die cast but could never find the other 2. Last September: I got really lucky and someone posted the one up for bid on Ebay, in package. I bid, and I won said auction during my Physical chemistry course while I was taking notes and frantically competing last minute. Fast forward to earlier this week: amazingly, the seventh car showed up on Ebay in a lot and I snatched it up super quick and got it yesterday. so a collection that took 5 years to make, one involving 7 hot wheels cars, has come to an end.

i wish I had a tranformers story like that, but the nearest thing was finally finding and purchasing the Fallen back in spring 14' on Ebay in his fiery orange deco, which was really cool and fun :BOT:

That's the joy of collecting, finally tracking down a piece of it that you've been after for a very VERY long time.

On the flipside, that joy soon wanes when you start completing the collection.

You know, I thought I would never ever own those Beast Wars Neo toys. People would have them at conventions (the takara boxes) for insane prices. All I wanted was to try them out, see what they were like. Paying 40-50$ for a stegasaurus or Snake I might not like was something I dreaded. So it was a God send when I got note that there were Korean versions out there of the exact same Takara products but with Korean Boxes. And plus it seemed like there was massive overstock and thus this crazy expensive stuff was cheaper than it would have cost if I bought them in Japan back in the day. It was insane!

Oh and another crazy awesome purchase this year was buying 56 painted animation cells from Beast Wars Neo. So to go with all the new toys I got, I also got art from the actual show!

This purchase happened last May (will just post a few, there are 56 of these, plus all the pencil sketches/drafts to go with them):

Also, it might not be known but this was the last hand painted TF show ever. It became digitally drawn after that.

Still gushing over UW04 Devastator. ;)

I think it's the best looking combiner figure, including unofficial. And certainly the most accurate Devastator yet.
