UPDATED ON MONDAY, JULY 20, 2015 - 1430 HR PST

Achieved the 1 billion XP mark at that time. Ironically, it was around the same time 10 years ago that I started playing HMW. I've reset all my characters and have given out the Energon to Insideous, Phaswing, and Sprockitz as promised (8,911,096 each).

Thanks again for being great players over the years. Here's hoping one of you will eventually make the billion XPs club as well and, maybe, the trillion XP club someday.

I'll probably drop by in the future. Who knows. Thanks for 10 great years of gaming.

Stay frosty everybody!

PLAYERS WHO WANT DIBS ON MY ENERGON STASH AFTER I RETIRE (vultures)

Update - June 12, 2015 - Looks like I can't give my energon to Autobot players as this is how the game is set (sorry Jack Hallows).

1. Insidious
2. Phasewing
3. Sprockitz

As I had stated earlier, when my top guy hits 1 billion XP, I will be hanging up my HMW gloves for good. You can quote me on this.

With only 88 million XPs to go (I project it to be reached somewhere between the middle of this month to the beginning of next month), I like to reminisce the old days a little bit:

Old Man Memory 1. Around 2004, I discovered this game when I accidentally clicked on the link leading to something called "Heavy Metal War". At the time, there weren't a lot of people playing the game, and most of the players had already taken iconic character names (Megatron, Rodimus Prime, Shockwave, Devastator, Jetfire, Sky Lynx, Optimus Prime, Starscream, etc.) leaving very few established names to be picked. At the time, I was reading Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles" story arc 'Satanstorm' and thought that it would make a great name for a deity-like character. I had people asking me, at the time, whether or not I was a Satan worshipper, and that this name had stirred up some controversy back then. After a while, it went away (largely due to my ignoring various posters' complaints) and things went back to normal.

I remember you having that name when I was still a bot. Thought it was pretty quirky, in a humorous way.

Going to be sad to see you MIA gamewise permanently... :-(

Thanks Steve. Thanks a lot.

The name wasn't a big deal when you had names like "Kamikaze" and "God" in the mix of players.

Old Man Memory 2. I logged on to HMW one day and say this graphic in the registration page. I recognized it from the Dreamwave's 'More Than Meets The Eyes' G1 Transformers character guide. It was pretty neat because its cycles between different characters everytime you log on. Sometimes I get a picture of Pretender Starscream, sometimes I get Cyclonus, and other times Galvatron. It was cheesy at first but it really added to the feel of HMW over time. I think it was around late 2004 or so that the HMW staff removed the images because of copyright laws violations or something like that. Ironically, Dreamwave went out of business in the first week of 2005 (thanks Steve). I thought it was hilarious.

LOL no problem. FYI, I DO put in my lower level guys from time to time. Sorry if I sounded like a douche.

Yeah, 2005, not 2015. ARGH.

damn, this sucks bro. usually i only frequent this board to flame decepticons (in character as an hmw commander, of course) but despite all the in game slagtalk and general bad attitude the howlers usually display, i have definitely come to respect you and your team through the trials of heavy combat, and it will be a sad day when we can no longer face one another in battle. you'll be taking away much needed firepower and repair capabilities from those can headed 'cons (probably much to the joy of other autobots commanders, haha) and it will be a while before another commander rises to claim the emperor of destruction mantle. it's really been a pleasure and a challenge having you around, Super Megatron, and you'll be sorely missed. maybe not by the autobots, but by someone ;) seriously though, thanks for making this game worth it bro. your insight, experience and understanding of the game mechanics have been invaluable to both sides of the conflict, and if hmw 2.0 ever pops off, i'm sure your contributions will be heavily relied upon. thanks for everything and good luck on your future endeavors!

till all are one :BOT: :CON:

oh and p.s.
Steve and i are gonna totally continue to kick your aft as a proper send off

but it could be worse. you could be one of those dissidents

Thanks, Jack. I remember you were one of the few players that stuck around when things got tough. Along with Sprockitz, Steve, Burn, Zordon, and you, we all had a chance to see this game grow and evolved over the last 10 years or so. I'll miss you guys as well, but I just have too many things on my plate right now. Along with selling off my Transformers collection (which has become a full time job), it's time for my wife and I to shift some life priorities. HMW just isn't one of them, and the devotion to playing it, at times, has somewhat became an addition when you want to one-up somebody. I will miss you all.

Old Man Memory 3. I can't remember who it was, but back in 2007, I chatted with a player about HMW mechanics and some of the strategies I can employ to get my guys more XPs faster. It may had been Mkall or Zordon. Can't remember. Any way, the guy gave me this advice (and this is something I highly recommend any of you who wants to earn mega XPs):

Never be shy in going into missions where you are outclassed and outgunned. The XP payout for those missions ARE INSANE. Sure, you will lose 9 times out of 10, but think of it this way - if you are a level 5 character who typically gets about 44k XP on a good mission, winning in a mission with at least one level 11 character would net you at least half a mil in XP most of the time.

To put this in perspective, if you go into a Lvl 1-11 mission and you got your level 5 guy in there. By the time the mission closes and you got your opposing team made up of one level 5 guy, and one level 11 guy, the odds are against you and you probably will come out with a lower XP payout (most likely from a shot from the level 11 guy's fusion cannon), but the chances of you hitting the level 11 guy while not being killed by the fc is also pretty good.

And if you do, somehow, manage to survive the mission, you WILL get a massive payout (in the half million XP range, sometimes much more), it would be worth losing the 9 previous missions just for that one good mission out of 10 than if you win 10 typical level 4-5 missions (roughly 44k XP x 10 = 440,000 XP) because the payout would be better.

Thing is, it takes a lot patience and perserverance. A LOT OF IT. But if you can hold out, it'd be worth it. That's how I got to become the top bot in the game for a few days back in 2007.

Little under 78 million XPs to go.

Old Man Memory 4. Tournaments. I had no idea how they worked until my second year in. I thought all you had to do is fight in a mission and the admins will add up the total XPs you've earned since date X to the end of the tournament date, and whoever earned the most points get to be declared the winner. NOPE. That's totally not how it worked. Turns out, you had to join missions highlighted in red. Whichever faction (Decepticon or Autobot) had the most wins is declared the winner. I think that, on top of bragging rights, you get bonus XP payouts, Energon payouts, and I think you get a special weapon to be used for one month (IIRC, you had Light Sabers and Magnus Hammers at the time).

Good times.

I'd vote for semi-retirement, rather than full retirement.

Dropping in for a surprise periodically would be great.

Thanks for the kind words, but I tried that back in 2010. Trust me, it doesn't work. With HMW (for me, any way), it's all or nothing.

About 72 million XPs to go....

Geebus - that's the most XP I ever since for one battle!

Old Man Memory 5. Factions. I remember there used to be sub-factions like RDD and AWC. I always wondered why you needed a subgroup within a group that you can't really distinguish yourself other than the allegiance on paper. That said, I thought it might had been a better idea to gather a bunch of players from the same country and make that into a faction so that if we need somebody to play against (you know, to gain XP) or to have as backup, we can specifically join a mission for that mission if you are in that said group. So I figure why not nationalize it?

That's how Made In Canada [MIC] was born. At first there was a lot of enthusiasm over the idea, but as the game progresses, the group members noticed that the theory doesn't exactly work because of the randomness of HMW and the lives of the members. Still, during that time, our group did thrived and had our own logos, signatures, and even a website. We had members in both the Autobot and the Decepticon faction. After a while, things sort of trickled away. I think there is only me and Metroplex79 left.

Roughly 67 million XP to go...

Question - WHO WANTS MY STASH OF ENERGON AFTER I LEAVE?

I have about 23,000,000 energon I can give/distribute to all those interested. I'll be posting the list of people who is in on the pool and on the day of my retirement, I'll divide the stash evenly amongst all parties that signed up.
