Anyone care if they buy a stand alone toy, that doesn't scale well with others?

Postby Tsutsukakushi » Sun Nov 23, 2014 1:02 pm

That's the question being asked in this thread.

POV, I could care less, Try not to have too much OCD in this hobby.

The reason why I buy 3rd party TF toys is because they offer things HasTak hasn't done yet. or might never create.

If I like a 3rd party TF toy sculpt, then I'm going to buy it regardless if it fits in with HasTak's TF toys or not.

I'm not preparred to pass up on a awesome high quality made 3rd party TF toy because it's too small or too big and doesn't scales with any of HasTak's TF toys.

I have a personal vision for my collection. Actually, it's what I'm considering my 'Final Collection' and after that I don't intend to drop another dime on this hobby. That being said, due to it being my final collection, I would prefer they scale as close as possible to how I remember them in the cartoon as I was a kid so when I finally have them all displayed I don't see any particular figure as an eyesore. While I do appreciate the great looking figures that come out from time to time, I have to set limitations for myself not only because of my collection standards, but also due to financial reasons. In my mind, I'm not trying to collect every version of a character out there, but simply to fill the specific niches that are necessary to reach what I feel will bring my collection to completion. That's why stand alone toys just aren't practical for me.

If it doesn't fit in my collection, I don't get it. This is for a couple reasons:

1) I have, similar to NOS, a "final collection" in mind. I don't think I'm close to this, but we'll see.

2) If I get one thing, I'll feel compelled to get more of the line. It's one of my minor flaws is that I cannot have one thing from a series.

yeahhh... i dont believe that for a second. answer me honestly: youre holding a tape measure right now arent you?

my jackassery aside, i try to keep things in a loose scale. i have only bought one figure, my vision of scale being damned: UT vintage mania king. in my mind, if the figure is just that good, ill bite even if he has no real place.

I think you stand alone when it comes to stand alone figures (no pun intended) ;)

Most everyone seems to either prefer MP or CHUG scales, but one thing we can all agree on is some kind of harmony in scale. It just doesnt seem to be popular to collect random sized figures unless you collect only primes, or only bumblebees etc.

Think some here do sometimes buy stand alone toys and don't care about it scaling next to anything. Because their impressed with the toy design more. Examples are MMC Hexatron, UT Mania king, Citizen Stacks, TW Grand max and Fort Max and so on.

If you go by Sixshot's large scale in the comic, Hexatron actually is CHUG scale. Mania King is also CHUG scale, actually shorter than classics Megatron. You know what I think of Citizen Stack. Takara put him out of his misery, and even an entire army of Junkions couldn't give him life after MP-22 was announced. And somehow the term "city bot" just doesn't seem fitting when TW Grand Max transforms into an ant farm.

I guess you can say I don't like stand alone figures because I really don't have attachment to specific characters as much as I do to the G1 cartoon as a whole. I don't feel the need to glorify any particular character as a stand alone piece. I feel group of figures in the CHUG scale glorifies the G1 cartoon better to fulfill my "attachment".

Those who actually own this toy, Will tell you it's is a great toy. KFC sent out replacements parts and fixed all the QC problems this toy had.

KFC is doing well in selling this Citizen Stacks toy to import sites. As most sites have ordered the first release. the 2nd improved release with fixed parts with tweaked colors. The Dai commander Stack. Sure more recolors and retools will get made with sites ordering them.

3rd party companies make money when sites order their product. It's the sites responsibility to sell the toys to individual buyers.

 Their is a MMC Hexatron thread literally filled with pages upon pages. Of you saying the oppossite.

 In that MMC Hexatron thread you called the toy a oversized stand alone coffe table display piece that fits in with no CHUG or MP TF toy scale.

 In that MMC Hexatron thread you repeatedly stated MMC Hexatron needed to be Voyager scale to fit in with CHUG toys. Then Stating that MMC Hexatron needed to be a inch or Two taller to fit into MP TF toy scale.

Personally, I'd consider MMC Hexatron to be a MP toy. Due to it being having more articulated joints, superb engineering and much higher sculpt.

With that said above. I view MMC Hexatron as a stand alone MP TF styled toy. Because I felt it needed to be a inch or Two taller than MP-09 & MP-10. not a Head shorter than MP-09 and MP-10.

I'd be willing to buy 3rd party add on boots to make the toy a inch or Two bigger. Like 3rd parties did for Hedgemon and MP Grimlock.

This is why I might be interested in buying Clone Droid SixShot if it's 1 to 3 inches taller than MMC Hexatron. As I think this will put the toy in better MP TF toy scale. And take it off the, Stand alone display figure, Status.

I also said I'm willing to accept comic accuracy in this particular case because the figure is that awesome. Although I much prefer cartoon accuracy, Hexatron gets a free pass. Sometimes we cant always have it the way we want it, like Overlord. (ouch) ;)

I would love to have a voyager scale Hexatron that scales head to head with Fansproject's upcoming Quickswitch. But some genius in the KO world thinks an even bigger version of Hexatron will succeed. You'll probably buy one to stand next to your MP-01 and Citizen Stacks.

No you didn't, not even once you said this in that MMC Hexatron thread. It was others that tried to point this factoid out to you. Which you argued or ignored them in that thread.

Back on topic.

I'm not a completist. Don't have enough love for every G-1 character, just a handful that I like and buy.

That's why I can afford to buy multiples of the same character in different toy scales, Including stand alone figures.

I don't typically buy standalone figures, whether they are standalone by size, style or whatever.

I prefer figures that have a place in a my larger collection.

I have passed on figures I liked because of this, and FP's Steelcore is a great example.
He has no place in my collection, more for the lack of relation to a nostalgic character than size, but the point is the same.

I like the figure, it is a cool and unique design but, like everyone, I need to draw lines somewhere and he is on the far side of the line.

I am a fan of robots in general, not just Transformers, and if I had infinite space and infinite money I'd have him, everything put out in the Soul of Chogokin line, and many others, but I can't.

Depends on the figure. I actually like a lot of the "novelty" figures Japan loves so much (the Optimus Prime pen by Sentinel looks pretty neat) and if a figure is nice enough that it qualifies as a standalone piece then I can easily overlook it not fitting in with the rest of my collection.

Case in point, MP G2 Sideswipe. I don't really have the space or money to build an MP collection at the moment, but I saw this guy at a convention and had to have him. I am so glad I forked out for him- even though his vehicle mode is way too big to look right next to deluxe cars, it's still an awesome Lamborgini Countach mode, and he looks so badass in robot mode that scale just ceases to be a problem. I actually have him displayed with Animated Arcee clutching onto his manly frame.

Likewise, Unicron. I have Armada Unicron and even though there is not a single figure in the universe other than Primus that will scale with him (because >planetformers) I love him anyway. He's an awesome display piece and a lot of fun to play with, and I kinda wish there was something that did scale with him if only because it would magnify his awesomeness even more. Maybe some little planets or tiny spacecraft?

Other figures I'd say qualify for "awesome enough for a standalone display" include MP-01 (slightly wonky truck mode but a robot mode I think rivals MP-10), ROTF Leader Prime (AKA the best engineered transforming toy ever made even if he's way too big), MP-03 "Kawamori-Scream" (He just tickles my aircraft nerd sense and he's in good vehicle scale with deluxe cars), and on the 3P side, ToyWorld Infinitor/Grant (he's basically G1 Fort Max shrunk to desk toy size and made much mode poseable, which is a winner in my book and falls right into the "awesome crazy Japanese novelty" category I love), Unique Toys Salmoore (It's goddamn Cy-Kill! And he looks awesome!) and FansProject Steel Core (he's possibly the only totally original 3P figure, and I kinda want to get him and have him as an original character).

any toy can be stand alone and fun- but to really fit with my display aesthetic they have to scale reasonably well. so they can get bought, played with, but unless they scale decently with what I am putting up...well, they are going in the drawer with the fun but tiny FOC Prime who could have been so much more as a voyager

of course my caveat to this is minibots- give me a minibot who is supposed to be a minibot and I don't care how he scales- I have gen/legends Cosmos up on my desk now with his wee little targetmaster...
