Good or bad is up to an individuals decision. I don't need a website or a reviewer to tell me what to think.

Well, of course it's considered one of the worst films of 2014.

-It's a Bay film. (Automatic hatred.)
-There weren't many good films in 2014. (Those that were good, came and went in the theaters MONTHS before or after AoE did.)
-Have they seen the rest of 2014's movies? (Seriously. Earth To Echo I hear is just absolute crap and they advertised the crap out of it.)

Of the movies that were good:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Interstellar
Big Hero 6

Of the movies that were "bad":
Robocop (Though I enjoyed it. I even bought it on video.)
Transformers Age Of Extinction (I loved it. I don't care what the critics think, it's not going to change my mind.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Also enjoyable, not award winning, but fun.)
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 (I didn't see it, but a large number of people who did said it was a very slow and boring film that just abruptly ends. I'd be PO'd too.)

Of the movies that made money (which is really the most important factor, because studios and audiences don't give a crap what the critics really think as long as the dough rolls in.):
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Guardians Of The Galaxy
Interstellar
Transformers Age Of Extinction
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1

Plus all the other films that just kinda wandered through the muck and mire to get to the box office, but none of them are really memorable, nor did they have a big box office. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst years for movies, I've ever seen.

Automatic hatred for Bay is weird.Just because the designs are not G1 does not mean yo should hate him.In fact,TF would be very boring if everything was nothing but G1 (no design changes)

Bay hatred has NOTHING to do with things not being G1. In fact, Bay hating was around long before he started filming the first Transformers movie.

People hate Bay because his movies are, in their eyes, "action and explosive filled with poor writing, gratuitous use of the female body and over-corporate ads for car companies and or the US military".

When I read the Golden Globe nominations (which are a heavy indicator of Oscar nominations) the other day, I hadn't even heard of the majority of the movies.

So either they're not getting major releases in Australia, or they're far too sophisticated for me.

I thinkh that this is funny how Michael Bay is some kind of Karma Houdini in case of making bad movies. While any other director is tamed by producers and usually is considered as the only one resposible for anything bad in the movie. Bay can do anything, and if it ends with failure, writers are the one to blame...

However, I think that AOE was a decent action movie with science-fiction elements, there isn't really to much to hate. Even if it's strictly worse if you compare it to Godzilla, Hercules or new Captain America, it wasn't a disaster. I belive that instead Michael Bay should have beign named the worst director of the year.

I don't care at all what critics think about a movie. They have their own agendas and they typically want to look highbrow at the expense of a popular movie. Rotten Tomatoes is garbage to me, btw.

Makes since to me. This was, in my opinion, a pretty horrid movie. Characterization and established 'movieverse' my this seemed to be thrown in the garbage and switched around at random. Visually it was stunning, but that was about it.

I don't know Kaijuguy19. I don't think many people are exposed to movies made before they themselves were born. Although I view Transformers: Age of Extinction to be as bad as the 1970's "The Dunwich Horror" starring Dean Stockwell and Academy award winner Ed Bigley Senior.

I'm not surprised. It's definitely the worst of the four currently out and has put me off from wanting to see anything that comes after because of its failings. It's like B.O.T. - there are some good and interesting ideas sprinkled about or buried in it, but the overall thing is just BAD.

Story-wise, it's annoying and a big let-down. there's new mythos dumped in that seems to clash with what was built up in the past 3 movies, all the established Autobots except Optimus, Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Brains are slaughtered OFFSCREEN and Ratchet only shows up to be murdered by Lockdown. The new Autobots introduced don't even have so much as a throwaway line to explain when they arrived and how long they've been on Earth, and they don't exactly do anything make themselves likeable. And NOTHING is said about what happened to Cybertron at the end of Dark of the Moon. Was it destroyed? Did it survive? That's a big question to leave hanging!

Ooh, and then there are the visual and design screwups.
First off, deciding to make the aesthetic of the robots even more convoluted and thus in many cases impossible to make a toy of. Especially Drift.
Second, there's the stupid as hell transformium-cloud cheating transformations that cheat worse than Floro Dery's Season One animation models from the original cartoon. Especially in the case of Galvatron. That is unacceptable. That is "You fail, this is bullshit, go home and try again".

Frankly, the only things I really enjoyed in the movie were the Dinobots steamrolling the KSI drones, the shade thrown at the real-world drone program and the "us or them" mentality, and Optimus shooting Attinger. I am of the opinion that unless The Last Knight is going to throw AoE out entirely and be a fresh attempt at picking up where DotM left off (and stick to the aesthetic of the first three movies), it should have its production halted and postponed while Age of Extinction is given a do-over. Unless they have a solid retconning plan for both story and visuals, continuing from AoE is building on a rotten foundation.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* DotM Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* ROTF Jetfire R JTFR panel

Di Bonaventura is not a credible or trustworthy source. And most fans do like the diversity push, thanks.

I was unable to see it in theatre.

My thoughts.

I watched the first three this past week. They are good fun popcorn flicks. Nothing spectacular. I rather like watching a city get blown to bits though.

the 4th one Worst movie of 2014, Yeah I am inclined to agree - well the worst of the four live action movies. I recall people warning me that it was really, really bad. I thought that maybe they were full of it.

A friend loaned me a copy of it. I watched it or attempted to, and my husband and I both fell asleep roughly half way. We attempt to watch it again, we fell asleep earlier and managed to see the end. The third time I did manage to watch it, and the 4th time I fell asleep. The only other transformers series that ever caused me to go to sleep was Energon.

Don't get me wrong, the dinos are awesome, but overall it was extremely dull. the action sequences I felt were too long with no actual story. I was actually really disappointed I did not enjoy the 4th. I am contemplating watchcing it again, but I start to think of what else I could use the time for. Basically watching it is a chore.

It seems to conflict heavily with the first three movies, like he wanted to try to reboot it, by removing half the established characters and trying to create his own version of them. I was actually expecting the frozen metal dinosaur at the start to actually be grimlock. It struck me as poorly written fanfic. A lot of great ideas, just poorly executed.

I am feeling a tingle of hope with the 5th movie, what I see makes me think he's going back to the formula of the first three movies, and they worked.

I felt the 4th film strayed hard from its path.

Edit: I do love the score.
