Sideswipe shook his head in disappointment at Brawn as the smaller ‘Bot headed off. Some mechs have no sense of adventure.

He quickly shook it off, then turned to the others. Most continued about their business, not paying him or his previous question any mind. Not that it mattered. He was used to having his ideas questioned, but Prowl had given him permission to work with some of his troopers. Just because they haven’t stepped forward and volunteered didn’t mean anything.

A sly smile played across Sideswipe’s faceplate as he gave Prowl an exaggerated salute that only exemplified his playful side. Of course, those that knew him would realize it generally wasn’t a good thing for one’s peace of processor.

Turning, he headed to where a small group of Autobot troopers stood chatting among themselves. His smile widened as he approached them. “Ready for some fun, guys?”

One of the troopers groaned and glanced skyward before replying, “I don’t think we’re interested in your ideas of fun.”

Sideswipe continued unfazed, “Sure you do. What would be better than flexing out joints in some good natured combat.”

“Combat?” another trooper asked. “What kind of combat?”

That’s right, you can taste it, can’t you? Sideswipe thought as he tried to appear nonchalant by shrugging. “Nothing too serious. Wargames, more than not. To keep it simple, we split up and attempt to track each other down. Strictly on the downlow, otherwise Prowl will blow a gasket. Physical or stun weapons only.” He leaned in and lowered his voice in a conspiratorial manner. “Just think of how fast you’ll rise through the ranks if your skills are superior to your fellows. It’d be great to give the orders instead of taking them for orns, am I right?”

The four troopers slowly came around, exchanging glances and a couple of shrugs. Even the first one that spoke looked interested as he said, “If you want to keep it simple, why don’t we try to find you?”

Sideswipe tried not to smile too broadly at that. Since first approaching Prowl, his idea had morphed several times. His initial thought of testing the city’s defenses had morphed into them pushing their personal abilities, and he couldn’t be happier. Truth be told, he hadn’t wanted to openly offer himself as the prey in this exercise. Somehow, he knew his fellow Autobots would line up for that one.

Even he wasn’t crazy enough to do that.

Well, crazy was a strong word.

In the end, he merely shrugged. “Sure, if that’s what you four would prefer. Nothing like a challenge, am I right?”

The first trooper nodded, a smile giving away his glee at the idea.

Do I know him? Sideswipe wondered. It was a look he’d seen on several mechs, but especially Sunstreaker’s faceplate more than a few times.

“Then it’s agreed.” The trooper motioned to the armory. “Once we’re rearmed, we can begin.”

“Sounds great,” Sideswipe said, wondering what he’d gotten himself into.

~~~
A spark of sympathy wormed its way into Brawn’s energon pump at leaving Sideswipe hanging, but stumbling around the jungle hunting fellow Autobots wasn’t his thing. Now, had it been an actual fighting scenario like a tournament or something like that…
He shrugged off the thought as he weaved along the narrow jungle road he’d spent a good part of his time on Earth exploring. Had he stopped to think about it, he would’ve questioned why he, of all mechs, felt the need to explore the jungle. It was something he never really thought about as it was standard for him whenever they landed on another world.
What could be better than testing one’s skills in the wildness of a new, unknown world? Sure, chances were he’d eventually stumble across some indeginous lifeforms, but what were the odds humans were around here?
Unless the genius that scanned the area had a glitch.
He had to admit the thought had merit. How else would a pathway wide enough to become a road come about? To his knowledge, there weren’t that many large organics in the area to make it. Still, what fun would it be to think too much? In his thinking, the best discoveries came when one didn’t think too much.
On whim, and following his current train of thought, Brawn suddenly turned right and drove into the thick foliage. He only went a few meters before he had to transform to make his way through the thick vegetation.
It was something he couldn’t put an actuator on, but this felt right. Maybe he’d stumble across a new energy source of something. Nah, he thought. I’ll probably find something worthwhile. There’s got to be something around here to test my mettle.
He pushed a vine aside and ducked under a low-hanging tree when the ground beneath him gave way and he crashed through the vegetation, bouncing off a few rocks before coming to a stop in a depression flat on his back.
Sitting up, he put a hand to his head. “Ow, should’ve watched that first step.”
This wasn’t how he intended his test to begin.
In one area you have terrain that could support Omega Supreme and in another you find terrain where Eject would sink. It's so difficult to account for. But yes, I would go ahead and bump it up. We can't afford structural integrity flaws anywhere."
“Alright then, I’ll be on my way to help out the rest of the construction crew.” He gave a jolly nod and a quick two finger salute to Grapple, and scurried back towards the construction site. He made his way up onto a higher platform so he could address the builders while Grapple was busy with Prowl.
“Can I get everyone to listen please? We’ve got some changes in the plans. Please make sure that support beam #78 is 7.3 decakels long! I repeat, please make sure that support beam #78 is 7.3 decakels long. Over there, on the southeastern side, please make sure that the shafts are deep enough into the ground. Nothing here should be compromised! If you see something that looks uneven or shaky, please let either me or Grapple know about it. Thank you and carry on!”
The green engineer himself turned into his alt mode and started towing some material carts filled with reinforced steel beams along towards the other side. The construction was coming along nicely, and Hoist was happy to see how much work Grapple had done. It truly was a product of his design.
Barbarian builders!
It was all Pharma could do to keep his frustration from spilling out into the vast emptiness of Omega Supreme as he worked.
He’d never had a use for builders beyond needing them to construct a proper facility for him to utilize. Even then, it was hit or miss. Too many times he’d been forced to follow behind them to clean up or reorganize what they called completed work.
Just like now. He shook his head as he finished the second conduit Bluestreak had informed him of. The damages weren’t too severe in that he hadn’t come across any that needed to have a part replicated. So far, a little tightening and welding and they appeared as good as new. Better, even.
He absently kicked the scrap he’d had to cut away from the conduit so he could refit the patch the group had used. At least, they used the right metallic compound. Has to be the work of a medic.
Wiping a stray bit of oil from his optic, he surveyed his handiwork. Pleased this section wouldn’t leak again for a long time, he checked his display. Only a few more conduits to repair in these sections and it’d only be a matter of time until the guardian was refueled. This was a little easier than he’d expected, though he had no illusions as to the extent of Omega’s injuries. This was going to take some time.
At least, it gave Pharma a chance to study the guardian in depth. So far, the power exchanges appeared to be the regular design all Cybertronians used, except a hundred times larger. Not surprising, given their function, but he had to admit he was slightly disappointed.
Since the idea of combiner technology came to him, he expected to find something more complex within Omega. He’d always assumed the real answers he needed were in Omega Supreme’s processor, most likely in his motor control subroutines, but it would’ve been nice to have another puzzle to occupy his time while working on mundane repairs.
“Dwelling in the obscure. Such is the function of those destined for greatness,” he mumbled while plotting the next series of repairs. He noted when and where it’d be wise to have engineers help. Though he detested the idea, someone had to begin working on the guardian’s structural injuries while he handled the more complicated aspects such as restoring Omega Supreme from stasis lock. He wanted… no, needed to be the first one to talk with the guardian to gain his trust. Besides, Omega would be needed to help direct his repairs in ways most mechs couldn’t due to their smaller size.
How easy would it be if one could simply walk into their patients? The idea had some merit, but Pharma also realized if that was possible, anyone could conduct the repairs and those of his skill set could be labeled as obsolete.
Maybe not all progress needs to happen, he thought as he headed for his next repair assignment. Lost in his thoughts, he almost forgot to let Bluestreak know of his progress. Opening a channel, he said, >>Bluestreak, my boy, I’ve completed repairs of the conduits in 4a. Moving to the next section.<<
Kup wrote:"Yeah. You sound like I felt, heh. But yeah, we found 'em both. Blaster, I think it was, picked up their signals somewhere in the Earth continent of Africa. That sure as slag wasn't no coincidence. And them goin' loopy at the same time? Nope. Somethin's connected there, but I sure dunno what. Like you said, tho, I'm happy we got Prime back too. He isn't back to normal, but just seein' him is gonna do wonders for the morale department. As for Megatron? Next time we get a chance like that I hope someone has the sense to order us to take him out, for good. Because exactly what we were worried would happen—happened."
Howlstrike listened with great interest as Kup laid out how Optimus Prime and Megatron were found and then both went crazy at the same time. The former Predacon shook his cranial unit in amazement. “Wow, there’s definitely something going on with them that’s for sure. I’m surprised Prowl didn’t order Megatron’s termination when he had the chance, but knowing him, he probably wanted the slagmaker for something involving the war, probably info. Still, like you said, having Prime back is a big morale booster even if he’s not quite the same as before.”
Kup wrote:"Scourge? The Sweeps? Last I remember they were runnin' around with Scorponok in the 2nd Fleet. That's Max's territory. Wonder if that's where Omega came from? And where he was before that...This don't sound good, kid. If they were hunting Omega, I got no reason to see why they'd give up after one try. But I guess Springer will get Prowl all caught up and he can decide what to do with that info. If any 'Bot is an ace at counterstrategizing, it's him. Too good for his own good, sometimes, heh.”
“It’s not good at all, Kup. I’m shocked more ‘Cons weren’t sent to get Omega already,” Howlstrike replied. “And your’e right. Scorponok’s not one to give up so easily. I’m sure he’ll send more troops sooner rather then later. We’ll need to be prepared for when that eventually happens. And the possibility of having both Megatron and Scorponok together in this system will not be good news for us even with Prime back. In fact, the combined might of those two would be down right terrifying.”
Kup wrote:"Yeh. It just takes time. Fighting in the trenches with someone forges the strongest bonds I know. You've got plenty more battle scars to earn fightin' for the right side. Sometimes that line gets blurred a bit, but I'm still sure we're on it."
The teal and gray tracker nodded. “I’ll take all the battle scars I can get to help atone for past sins. I just wish more ‘Bots could see that I’m trying. I know my anger gets in the way of that sometimes, but, again, at least I haven’t tried to rip anyone apart lately. Heh.”
Howlstrike cast another toothy grin in the direction of the six autotroopers who had been assigned to him. “Well, I guess we should get to patrolling the perimeter. I haven’t heard anything more from Mirage or the other teams, so I’ll send them a communique to let them know we’re getting started here.
>>”Mirage, Arcee, Broadside, this is Howlstrike. I’m going to start patrolling the eastern border with my autotroopers now. Kup has decided to join me for a bit. Just giving you guys a heads up. Howl out.”<<
The former Predacon then looked over at his team of autotroopers once more. “All right everyone, let’s get started. Spread out along the border, check for any weaknesses and, of course, keep an optic out for any ‘Cons.”
“Sure thing, boss, whatever you say,” one of the troopers responded, adding, “fraggin’ Pred” under his breath before he and the other autotroopers drew out their weapons and began to spread out as instructed.
“They’re so pleasant, aren’t they? Heh,” Howlstrike muttered to Kup as the Autobot hunter transformed back into his timber wolf alt mode. “Follow me, old timer! Keep up with me if you can! Hahahah!” Howl teased as he leapt forward, his four legs carrying him at a decent sprint down a small path through the trees and foliage.
Pharma wrote: >>Thank you, Bluestreak, my boy. Yes, I think I’ve encountered some of their work already. Can’t blame them, but it would’ve been easier for us if there had been a legitimate medic or two with them. Job security, eh? I’ll start at the top and work from there. With any luck, the damage won’t be as severe as we fear.<<
Bluestreak chuckled at Pharma’s remarks, especially in regards to job security.
>>”Yeah, you have nothing to worry about, Pharma. Your job isn’t going anywhere. The vast majority of mechs couldn't even come close to doing what you, Ratchet and others like you guys are able to do. If it weren’t for you doctors and medics alike, the Decepticons would’ve won this war long ago. You keep us going when we would otherwise fall apart or remain blasted into bits. You keep thanking us, but it’s us who should be thanking you.”<<
The chatterbot managed to shut up long enough to keep his attention mostly on the readout screen of the diagnostic machine. As Pharma continued his work inside Omega Supreme, the device continued doing its job, too. After another few breems, the machine completed its diagnostic run and the results were quickly downloaded onto a datapad that was connected to the front of the machine.
Bluestreak disconnected the datapad and gave it a quick once over. For a brief moment, he considered transmitting the information dump directly to Pharma, but then he decided against it. Instead, the Autobot gunner would deliver the datapad to the CMO in person.
Pharma wrote:>>Bluestreak, my boy, I’ve completed repairs of the conduits in 4a. Moving to the next section.<<
>>”I read you. The diagnostic cycle has finished. I’m on my way to you to deliver the results.”<<
The chatterbot then approached the open hatchway on the side of Omega’s rocket mode and swiftly climbed aboard. After a short while, Bluestreak had traversed the corridors of the Omega Guardian and located the source of Pharma’s transponder signal.
“Hey, Doc, here ya go,” the dark blue and silver mech said, handing the datapad with the diagnostic info over to Pharma. “So, is there anything else I can do to help out here? I’m no medic, but I’m pretty good at following instructions. So, I’m sure I could do a better job than the patchwork the others were able to manage. Heh.”
Sideswipe wrote:“Of course, Prowl, when have I ever been aloof or gone overboard? Don’t answer that.”
The military strategist rubbed his temples with the actuators of his right hand. A cranial ache was beginning to form deep within his logic circuits. Soon it would swell into something far more painful. “What have I unleashed?” Prowl muttered to himself in a low tone before returning his attention back to the others who were still present around him.
“Anyway, it’s time for that debriefing now, Springer. What the hell happened out there when you found Omega? I want to know everything.”
It wasn’t often something touched Pharma’s spark, but hearing another not of the medical field espouse the efforts and subsequent effects he and his fellow medically-inclined mechs did the trick.
To think, I had to come to this mudball to find one who truly appreciates our talent. Still, the idea that it took this assignment on top of the war to hear such commendations irked him beyond measure.
When he replied back, he did everything he could to ensure the only emotion that came across was his appreciation. It wasn’t everyday he felt this generous, and he had a feeling Bluestreak would appreciate it if he knew. >>Thank you, Bluestreak. I knew you were a mech unlike the others. Our work is often thankless, so hearing your appreciation is worth more than any physical accolades that can be bestowed upon us. We all must do our part, must we not?<<
Bluestreak wrote:>>”I read you. The diagnostic cycle has finished. I’m on my way to you to deliver the results.”<<
>>Very good, Bluestreak, my boy. I appreciate your work ethic.<<
Bluestreak had quickly risen in Pharma’s estimation to a level few achieved. It was an interesting shift in their relationship as Pharm had initially intended for him to be a source of information, but now, he was more of a trusted aid than anything. Perhaps, there really is a future for him as a medic. Primus knows, the universe could use more of us.
The thought brought the war to his attention once again. Not wanting to dwell on it, Pharma forced himself to relax and push the thought of the war aside as he made his way through Omega Supreme’s corridors. It wasn’t the easiest thing to do, given the evidence of the war every few meters. Such as the power disbursement nodule that looked ready to explode if any power were currently flowing.
Knowing the dangers it could cause, he stopped to pry off the housing and double check. The last thing he needed was for an overload to blow the computer or couplings he’d already fixed. Or create more work down the road, which was near impossibility. He never heard of a procedure that caught everything. Even he made mistakes, as much as he was loathe to admit such a thing.
Shaking his head, he set the housing aside, and flashed a light into the interior of the disbursement nodule. From what he could see, the wires and their connections were intact, meaning the housing took the brunt of whatever had happened. Pleased with the small amount of luck this brought him, he replaced the housing and marked the housing for replacement, then turned to continue along the corridor.
The sound of metallic feet approaching caught his attention, and Pharma surprised himself by smiling at Bluestreak as the mech approached.
Bluestreak wrote:“Hey, Doc, here ya go,” the dark blue and silver mech said, handing the datapad with the diagnostic info over to Pharma.
“Thank you, my boy,” Pharma said as he took the datapad and connected to it to allow the information to flow into his processor.
Bluestreak wrote:“So, is there anything else I can do to help out here? I’m no medic, but I’m pretty good at following instructions. So, I’m sure I could do a better job than the patchwork the others were able to manage. Heh.”
Yes, you are quite good at that, aren’t you? Pharma thought as he looked up at Bluestreak. “Well, to be honest, my boy, there is plenty of work to be done that medics and the everymech can do. But don’t sell yourself short. I’m sure one with your abilities may find himself in the medical or any other field you wish. You just need to apply yourself. Now, let me see…” His voice trailed off as he scanned through the information from the diagnostic scan. Given the damage to Omega Supreme, the list of places to begin were virtually limitless, but he wanted to give Bluestreak something to challenge him, to give him reason to aspire to something more than a warrior mech.
It didn’t take long, especially since he had just checked something that hadn’t been on the datapad, for obvious reasons. “I believe I have the perfect thing for you. It’s going to be a little more labor-intensive than you’d expect under the circumstances, but no less important.” Pharma motioned down the corridor. “I just checked and marked a disbursement nodule along here that look damaged but wasn’t. If you would be so kind as to repair those the scan listed, keeping an optic out for any others that look damaged and check their internal wirings in case they worked loose, would be a monumental help. When you’re finished with those, I may need help with the rest of these conduits. What do you say, my boy?”
Pharma knew his idea sounded like another errand, but if Bluestreak saw it for what it truly was and rose to the occasion, then this was a mech Pharma knew he could work with.
Sideswipe smiled as the group hefted their stun weapons. He wanted to give them enough time to become acquainted with them, but not too acquainted. This was an exercise for their benefit, after all.
“So, we’re hunting you, right?” Trooper 1, the trooper that had been hesitant to take part, asked.
He looked a little too happy when he said the word hunting, but Sideswipe let it pass. After all, if he and this mech had crossed paths previously, it’d add incentive to what they were doing. Besides, it wasn’t like the Decepticons didn’t know who they were, or Sideswipe, at least, and it was something he’d grown accustomed to over the millennia.
“Something like that. I’m going to evade you four, and you’re trying to capture me. Pretty simple, right?”
Trooper 2, a square-shaped grayish mech hefted his stun pistol and asked, “Four of us for you? Where’s the challenge?”
That was what Sideswipe had been waiting for. It never ceased to amaze him how so many never gave him credit for what he could do. And yet they wondered why he took so many risks in combat.
A crooked smile tugged at one corner of his mouth and it edged upwards. “I don’t see much. I’ll probably catch a recharge cycle waiting for you to get close enough to use those.”
As soon as he said it, he regretted it. Seeing the expressions of the four troopers shift from joyful to pissed in an astrosecond reminded him at how fast Sunstreaker’s mood shifted.
Huh. Wonder if I’m the reason for that, too? He shook off the thought and turned his attention back to the group waiting to get their hands on him. Part of him wanted to change it to probing Prowl’s patrols like he’d originally intended, but stun weapons against real ones never ended well. “Look, it’s simple. I get a five minute head start, and you four try to locate and subdue me before I reach the city.”
“And this is going to prove what…” Trooper 3 said, her voice trailing off as she rested her elbow joint against her side to hold her stun rifle at an angle.
“I was going to ask that, too, but if we’re chasing Sideswipe, it’s going to be worth it,” said Trooper 4.
Are you kidding me? None of them like me. I couldn’t have pissed them all off like this already.
Sideswipe forced the urge for his servos relax enough to allow his mouth to hang open and widened his smile instead. Despite the surprise, he found it helped to energize him. Instead of a run-of-the-mill training exercise, this was going to be close to real battlefield logistics. Now this was fun. Oh, hate me all you want and come at me as hard as you can.
In answer to Trooper 3’s question, Sideswipe merely shrugged. “You never know when a Decepticon will try to sneak in or shatter our defensive line. Take it from someone that’s faced their best in combat: you don’t want to be unprepared.”
He was pleased to see the fire seemed to intensify in the troopers. Now they’re ready.
“So, are we ready to get this game going? I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
With that, he transformed into his Lamborghini Countach mode and spun a 180 degrees before sending gravel into the Autotroopers’ faces.
As he disappeared down the road, Trooper 1 brushed the debris off of him and asked, “Are we really going to give him five minutes?”
“Barely,” Trooper 3 said, rubbing a scratch left on her light blue pain.
“You heard him,” replied Trooper 2. “He wants a challenge. I say we show him what Prowl’s trained us to do. He won’t know what hit him.”
The others voiced their agreement as their internal chronometers started counting down the minutes.
Same ol’ Prowl. And here I was hoping overseeing this project would catch me a bit of break from dealing with him again for a while. Good while it lasted”
“We picked up a signal just past Sol-7.” Springer began, his usual laidback tone shifting to one that was direct and matter-of-factly, “Ultra Magnus sent us to investigate what it could’ve been under the guise of a weapons test. As far as most of my crew knew, we were out to just pop torpedos at asteroids. However we soon came across Omega Supreme badly damaged floating about with low power.” The green and yellow mech paused to let his words sink in for a brief moment. The triplechanger folded his arms over his chest plate and shifted his weight some before continuing on.
“I think he might’ve been chased here because we were quickly greeted by Scourge and his look-alike army. We held them off and crippled their advance on Omega. ‘Cons then turned tail and left the system and we tugged our big orange friend back into safe waters. In short, we did our job; We Wrecked, and We Ruled. So yeah, I’d call that about everything.”
Bluestreak listened carefully as Pharma laid out exactly what he needed help with. It sounded like a job he could handle. “I say you got yourself a helper, Pharma! Heh. I shouldn’t have much trouble fixing those nodules you mentioned. Seems pretty straight forward. My primary function may be a gunner, but I can handle a little labor-intensive work if necessary. Anything to get Omega back to top working condition.”
The chatterbot patted the CMO on the shoulder plate before heading off down the corridor to the first grouping of disbursement nodules that the diagnostic scan had indicated was in need of repairs. Bluestreak then knelt down and removed the coverings on the surrounding casings and immediately saw the damage done. Wiring and conduits were severed and needed to be fixed.
“Yeah, I can see the problem clearly,” Bluestreak shouted back down the corridor, knowing that Pharma would hear his big mouth. “I’m beginning repairs now.” With that said, the dark blue and silver mech withdrew one hand into his forearm and replaced it with a soldering tool. A protective, transparent shield then extended down over his optics before he quickly went to work on the nodules in front of him.
Springer wrote:“We picked up a signal just past Sol-7. Ultra Magnus sent us to investigate what it could’ve been under the guise of a weapons test. As far as most of my crew knew, we were out to just pop torpedoes at asteroids. However we soon came across Omega Supreme badly damaged floating about with low power. I think he might’ve been chased here because we were quickly greeted by Scourge and his look-alike army. We held them off and crippled their advance on Omega. ‘Cons then turned tail and left the system and we tugged our big orange friend back into safe waters. In short, we did our job; We Wrecked, and We Ruled. So yeah, I’d call that about everything.”
Prowl’s stoic expression remained unchanged throughout Springer’s report on what exactly had happened out there in the far reaches of the Sol System. Scourge was one of Scorponok’s men. The fact that the Sweep leader had been sent after Omega Supreme concerned the military strategist a great deal as when word of Scourge’s failure reached the Commander of the Second Expansion Fleet, there would undoubtedly be a second incursion into the Sol System, potentially by Scorponok, himself. Both him and Megatron present here on Earth would be a threat the Autobots here were not yet ready to face.
“Excellent work, Springer. I take it there was no indication of where Omega Supreme had come from before you found him? No, of course there wasn't. I’m sure you would've told me in your report,” Prowl said, answering his own question. The black and white hoped that a high-ranking former member of the Wreckers would not leave out such an important detail like that. He would have to get that information from Omega Supreme, himself. Or, perhaps…
“Was there anyone on board Omega when you found him? Perhaps I could speak to them while I wait for Omega to be brought back online,” Prowl asked, shifting his gaze over at Grapple before returning his glare to Springer.
“Why does this always happen to me?”
The question was rhetorical since Sideswipe already knew the answer, but it felt better asking it.
His newest idea had seemed simple at first, but he knew Prowl wouldn’t approve of him sneaking up on any of his patrols. Of course, that was the best way to truly test their defenses and work the rust off the Autotroopers. At least, to his thinking.
It would’ve been fun!
He stifled a chuckle as he crouched behind a fallen tree to wait for an opening.
This was meant to be more than fun, but he didn’t think the others saw it like that. Oh no, they were taking this seriously. Maybe too seriously. They’d already zapped enough holes in one tree to make it look like one of Grapple’s more creative ventures.
That didn’t bother him as much as thinking they misunderstood his intent.
No matter what he tried, he was always the one causing trouble. He was always the one that induced processor cramps. He was always the immature twin.
He was also the lesser of the twins when it came to combat, and that one irked him the most.
It was for that reason he pushed so hard. Was it really that hard to understand?
He shook his head, pushing the thought aside as a mechanical footfall sounded on the other side of the tree. Silently, his left hand retracted and was replaced with a piston hammer.
He was too reckless to be trusted, and maybe they were right. He had made plenty of rash decisions over the vorns. Did that mean he should be considered a second thought or be the target of others’ frustrations?
Not today, he thought as he waited until the sun glinted off the metal of a stun pistol, then leapt around the tree in a crouch, Using his legs to enhance his power, he struck upwards with his piston hammer. The Autotrooper tried to move to avoid the contact, but was too slow.
With a loud clang and grunt, the large trooper that held a grudge against Sideswipe (Why, he didn’t know but could imagine) fell backwards, his accuators digging long trenches in the side of the tree as he fell.
“You’re lucky I’m not trying to kill you,” Sideswipe said, for reasons he wasn’t sure of. He’d never been one to verbally justify his actions before. Why the change?
He didn’t have time to think on an answer before a stun bolt struck the tree next to him, sending chards of broken wood and dust into the air.
“Ah, come one. Don’t tell me Prowl drilled the marksmanship out of you?”
Without waiting for a reply, he transformed and tore through the undergrowth, cutting a weaving swath as he swerved from one side to another, dodging the stun bolts from the trooper.
Laughing, he turned hard, spinning in a complete circle before he shot off toward the city. This’ll get their attention.
A series of stun bolts struck the ground along side and just behind him. They were from the third member of the troopers.
Maybe I shoutld’ve kept my mouth shut, he thought as he hit a small tree that had fallen. He launched into the air, transformed, and landed with a roll at the bottom of a narrow valley.
He came to a stop next to the opposite side of the valley with the rocky wall jutting out by his back.
That was too close. They’re really playing for keeps. The thought surged through him and his smile widened. Bet they’ll think of me before Sunstreaker next time.
After 3xamining all of the solar energy collectors and adjusting the wind turbines as far as they wanted to, the Construction patrol gathered back at the energon control panel.
"So what is the needs, Neutro?"
"Well, Groundpounder, we managed to get about 15% more energy collection per decacycle but with all the activity we got going on now it will be pushing it. We need to either build more collectors or overhaul our current ones."
"We probably should do both and look into electrical collectors as well as using any possible hydro generators."
"Electrical collectors as in what humans call lightning rods? Commander Siverbolt of the Aerialbots would be a fine example and it isn't like we generate any static electricity by moving around. If we design them just right, they could be placed anywhere especially on the buildings. The better collection will be during the electrical storms this planet creates."
As the Construction patrol discuss the energy needs, they walked up to the energon monitor for Omega Supreme.
"Looks like it will be several more hours before Omega is fully charged. If these readings are correct, he is at minimal power assuming he doesn't have too many leaks."
"I agree with your assessment, Crumble."
Neutro looked around noticed a diagnostic machine hooked up to Omega. He walked over and examined the report. His team looked over his shoulders as they also looked.
"He did take quite a beating from whatever hit him on his way here."
"Very true, Takedown, but a few of these injuries could be from neglect as well. Didn't one of us see Pharma fly this way?"
"It was me, Neutro. I think the good doctor intends on fixing our large friend on his own."
"I doubt he is that foolish, Groundpounder. It is probably going to take a large team of medics and builders to fix this guy with all of the injuries he has."
>>Pharma, this is Neutro. My team and I are done adjusting and reviewing the energy collectors. What we got is suffice for what we have here but we should build more and enhance what we have. Do you require assistance with the repairs? My team looked at the diagnostic machine and our large friend will takrpe a team to fix him properly. We are offering our services to get the big guy fully functional again.<<
>>Prowl, this is Jetfire. I am heading down to Autobot City with a scanner to further the gestalt project. According to the Ark sensory logs, Omega Supreme and Skylynx are down there with you. They may prove quite valuable for information on their own combination process. I will also scan all Auto pots down there to glean any other information for future candidates and better understanding. We may find other possibilities for future projects beyond the gestalt process.<<
Bluestreak wrote:“I say you got yourself a helper, Pharma! Heh. I shouldn’t have much trouble fixing those nodules you mentioned. Seems pretty straight forward. My primary function may be a gunner, but I can handle a little labor-intensive work if necessary. Anything to get Omega back to top working condition.”
During Bluestreak’s monologue, Pharma accessed his memory banks once more on the mech’s medical history. The fact he was a chatterbox wasn’t anything knew, but his can do attitude was something Pharma felt needed to be noted. While he wasn’t one to take something as trivial as commendations seriously, he knew how important they were to other mechs. Especially those with aspirations beyond their regular mundane functions.
He knew he shouldn’t make light of them, but he’d always been one more focused on achieving one’s goals through hard work and dedication. Others couldn’t fail to notice you if you did your job. It was really that simple. It’d worked for him when Ratchet proposed handing his position as CMO to Pharma when he left for whatever assignment the war machine had for him.
Pharma smirked at the memory. Had it been any other mech in charge, he doubted he would’ve gotten the post. Ratchet may be a cantankerous ‘Bot, but he was fair. And paying that forward for Bluestreak was the least Pharma could do.
He was so caught up in making the proper modifications to Blustreak’s file for later upload, he didn’t notice being patted on his shoulder plate until Bluestreak was heading down the corridor.
Maybe I should rethink that commendation… No, I’m not that petty. Still, it was tempting.
Turning back to his own assignments, his thoughts turned to Omega Supreme and how long it’d take to have him repaired enough to risk bringing him back online. It shouldn’t take too long, as long as the damage was they type they’d come across so far. As much as he relished a challenge, this was the one time it wouldn’t be beneficial to him or his pursuits.
Bluestreak wrote:“Yeah, I can see the problem clearly,” Bluestreak shouted back down the corridor, knowing that Pharma would hear his big mouth. “I’m beginning repairs now.”
Pharma did indeed hear him clearly, and winced as Bluestreak’s vocalization echoed off Omega Supreme’s tight corridors. Turning to look back over his shoulder, he said, “Very good, Bluestreak, my boy. I’ll leave you to it. If you run across anything unexpected and need help, let me know.”
For a brief astrosecond, Pharma questioned how wise it was for him to offer himself in such a way, but he quickly pushed that thought aside. It was his job as Chief Medical Officer of the city, after all. Far be it from him to shirk his duty. As long as it doesn’t involve cleaning up after these organics. They’re just foul.
He turned a corner and made it a handful of strides when his communicator signaled an incoming transmission. For Primus’ sake, who now?
Neutro wrote:>>Pharma, this is Neutro. My team and I are done adjusting and reviewing the energy collectors. Well, now isn’t this a pleasant surprise. Opening the channel, Pharma smiled as he replied, >>Neutro, my boy, so good to hear your endeavors have been successful. I would greatly appreciate your help. Bluestreak is a wonderful aid, but more are definitely needed. I’m sending what we’re currently working on. If you would take over for me, I shall check Omega Supreme’s processing center to make sure the more delicate systems are repaired.<<
Well now, it appears as though Primus is looking over me after all. I’m sure a religious type would have something to say about this, now wouldn’t they?
It was difficult, but Pharma managed to keep the excitement out of his vocalizer as he opened a channel to Bluestreak. >>Bluestreak, my boy, Neutro and his fellow builders are going to aide us in our efforts. I shall be in Omega Supreme’s processing center to ensure no repairs are needed there if you need me.<<
For the first time, Earth had something to offer him that he could appreciate.
Neutro received the communication from Pharma. The response surprised him when the doctor mention Bluestreak was helping.
"Well guys, looks like the big guy is definitely in need of our help. Pharma has some unexpected help in the form of Bluestreak. I admit I never thought the talker could lend a medic a hand unless it was to keep a patient distracted with the constant chatter. Pharma said something about heading to the central processor which seems a bit odd. From the read out we see, there is no indication of major damage up there but maybe he is being thorough and relying on his own optics. Well troops, we have a decacycle or two of work ahead of us."
Neutro headed into Omega Supreme followed by his team members.
“Wow, there’s definitely something going on with them that’s for sure. I’m surprised Prowl didn’t order Megatron’s termination when he had the chance, but knowing him, he probably wanted the slagmaker for something involving the war, probably info. Still, like you said, having Prime back is a big morale booster even if he’s not quite the same as before.”
"Yeh. Can never quite figure out a guy like Prowl. He's usually thinkin' two or three steps ahead of where us grunts are. But yeah, I'm hopin' Ratchet can Optimus back to normal ASAP. We all could use him to rally and remember why we're tryin' to win this war. After this long, I'm sure some 'Bots are startin' t'forget."
“It’s not good at all, Kup. I’m shocked more ‘Cons weren’t sent to get Omega already. And your’e right. Scorponok’s not one to give up so easily. I’m sure he’ll send more troops sooner rather then later. We’ll need to be prepared for when that eventually happens. And the possibility of having both Megatron and Scorponok together in this system will not be good news for us even with Prime back. In fact, the combined might of those two would be down right terrifying.”
"We will be lad. If it's anything Prowl does well, it's prepare. Once he's got a solid debrief from those guys," Kup said, indicating the mechs over near Omega Supreme, "about a dozen different countermeasures are gonna start runnin' through his head. Let the big bug come back, heh. Makes it easier for us t'step on 'im here than chase him across the galaxy like I heard Fort Max has been doin'."
“I’ll take all the battle scars I can get to help atone for past sins. I just wish more ‘Bots could see that I’m trying. I know my anger gets in the way of that sometimes, but, again, at least I haven’t tried to rip anyone apart lately. Heh.”
"They will, lad. You're in the right place now to show all the right 'Bots what you can do and why you chose a different path."
“They’re so pleasant, aren’t they? Heh. Follow me, old timer! Keep up with me if you can! Hahahah!”
Kup transformed into the pickup truck alt mode he had selected and sped off after the younger warrior. As he did, he switched his scanners on to their furthest possible ranges and settled in to enjoy the drive.
Hoist was glad to be back in his element - helping out Grapple’s projects. He knew exactly all the workings of the way Grapple may have designed the complex, and only needed to look at the blueprints once to get things going. Some of the construction mechs recognised him and acknowledged him as the architect’s right hand man, and happily enjoyed taking his leads.
“Alright everyone, we’re doing really well! Northern sector, you’re looking pretty good! Carry on placing the panels! Can I get a few mechs from the south eastern sector to come and haul the rest of these materials?”
The green engineer’s jolly voice promptly garnered the attention of a few mechs, who all rolled up alongside Hoist and made their way over to the area where some of the construction beams were. Hoist lowered his tow line and hooked onto a cart, and began dragging it across the build site. “Great work everyone! Keep going!”
He began unloading the cart and invited a few mechs over to start putting the beams into place. As he noticed the cheery expressions of those around him, Hoist grinned underneath his faceplate.
Some things just never worked out as planned.
No one was as familiar with that at the moment than Pharma as he wasn’t the type of mech to bypass the more damaged relays and other sections on his route to Omega Supreme’s processing center.
As much as Bluestreak and Neutro had impressed him as of late, they weren’t capable of the more delicate work these units needed.
Grumbling, he connected the final severed wire and closed the housing and stepped back to study his work. While it wasn’t the most difficult operation, all it would take was a single damaged conduit nodule this close to Omega Supreme’s processor to short circuit and possibly damage the guardian’s mental functions.
Though, Pharma had to admit, there was the possibility that such an occurrence would make it easier for him to get the information he needed, it would also do irreparable harm to an Autobot. While the temptation was real, but it was something he would never allow to overrule his dedication to his patients. Some things were simply not worth sacrificing.
Pleased the nodule was fully repaired and with no other visible damage, he turned his attention back to his current endeavor.
The corridors were narrower the closer he came to the processing center, so he was forced to crouch slightly as he drew closer to the main chamber.
Each step not only brought him closer to his goal, but it also marked a first for him. While he’d performed hundreds, if not thousands, or processor repairs, this was the first time he was actually walking into one.
That was the first time he thought about that, and he didn’t hesitate as he reached out to key open the circular portal to enter. But once he was inside, he paused and looked around, absorbing the enormous complexity surrounding him.
The center was so full of circuitry and conduits that if he tripped and fell, he’d tear out a few connections.
Good thing I’m doing this than one of the others on this mudball. The thought returned his confidence, pushing any doubt that had forced its way upwards in his consciousness away.
“Well, Omega, my boy, it looks like it’s just the two of us. What say we check your connections and access some logs, hmm?” he said to himself as he ran through his mental listing of what needed to be done before they reactivated the guardian. With any luck, the others would make significant progress and be ready by the time he completed his task.
With that, Pharma turned his attention to the nearest set of cables and their connections.
>>”Mirage, Arcee, Broadside, this is Howlstrike. I’m going to start patrolling the eastern border with my autotroopers now. Kup has decided to join me for a bit. Just giving you guys a heads up. Howl out.”<<
Arcee recieved the message from former Decepticon, now Autobot Howlstrike. She and her Autotroopers also, in position, began their own patrol. The pink and white fembot ordered her men with a voice of authority,
"Alright mechs, spread out and keep in contact via commlink. Report anything unusual. We need to keep Autobot City and our big friend Omega Supreme safe."
"Yes, Ma'am!!", most of the Autotroopers responded, and spread out as ordered, surveying the Peruvian landscape of steep hills and forest. One Autotrooper however, stayed near Arcee and asked the lady warrior, "Miss Arcee....how is it you're so hardened? There aren't many fembots anymore, but the ones I remembered on Cybertron weren't fighters. I mostly saw them working in shops or...", he said but he was abruptly cutoff. In the blink of an eye Arcee had revertes back to her robot mode and had a glowing blue blade at the Autotrooper's throat, while her free arm tightly wrapped around his arms and pressed them to his body.
"Enough, trooper! Know where you stand! The remaining fembots, like myself are just as good a warrior as any mech. Never underestimate a bot based on their make, or you'll end up scrap!", and having let that been made crystal clear, she released her hold on him and kicked him forward, adding, "Now get to work!", and he did.
Replying finally to Howlstrike, Mirage, Broadside, and now Kup,, Arcee said >>Arcee here, my troopers and I are patroling the northern border. Old Mech, it's good of you to join us!<<, she added especially for Kup, as she quietly trekked through the hilled forest, scanning for anything out of place. So far, there were no signs of Cons and no signs of humans either. There were only a few animals here and there, but they were harmless. A deer had spotted Arcee and made a run for it, while a jaguar hidden in a tree growled and crouched in fear of the strange metal monster.
"Shhh. Go on, I'm not a threat.", Arcee said calmly to the spotted cat. It stared at her and slowly blinked once before bounding off deeper into the jungle.
Broadside was still in the air, and there seemed to be nothing of major interest here. “Agh, can’t believe I missed the action back then with Scourge and his cronies. Now I’ve gotta do some lousy patrollin’.” He spoke out loud, and to his dismay, no one was around to hear him complain. He could see the others, Mirage, Howlstrike and Arcee, already getting started on the patrols along the border. If only he had a few troopers of his own. Ah well.
From the corner of his vision, he spotted some activity below, with a red car being chased by some Autotroopers. Now that looks like something fun. Pulling a mid-air stunt, the triple changer twisted and turned himself to divebomb towards the scene below.
With a loud WHOOSH, Broadside whirled just past Sideswipe, with the Autotroopers just a few kliks behind. He transformed midair, pulling off a sweet landing that shook the ground a little due to his massive size.
“Hehehe, hey! What’re you guys up to? Did y’all break into a fight?” Broadside held his axe in one hand, beckoning the Autotroopers who were firing stun bolts at Sideswipe just moments earlier. A smirk planted itself under his faceplate as a chuckle escaped his mouth. “I got your rear fender, Sideswipe,” he said, throwing a glance down at the red warrior. He returned his attention to the Autotroopers.
“Come get some.”
The rocky wall scratched at Sideswipe’s back, taking off some paint.
He winced at the idea of hearing another of Sunstreaker’s lectures on the importance of sharp paint jobs, shiny finishes, or whatever his topic would be.
Assuming I’m not carried back by the same ones I intended to humiliate.
Part of him knew he deserved it, but that annoying voice was the same one he’d learned to ignore for a millenia or so. Now, if Ratchet or one of the other doctors could remove it for him, so much the better…
A snap and scrapping of a metallic foot on a rock drew his attention to his left. They’re encircling me. Didn’t see that coming. I guess someone stays alert during one of Prowl’s meetings after all.
Sideswipe chuckled at the thought as he crouched as low as he could. He’d torn a path through the jungle, but none of them were making their way to him by it.
They were smarter and better equipped for this than he’d given them credit for.
Yep. They definitely paid attention to Prowl. They should get a medal for that alone.
His instincts screamed for him to stand and fight, to become the warrior he was known for. That would mean some casualties, himself included, most likely. But more than that, it was what they were preparing for. They knew him despite his not recognizing any of them.
So much the better. Schools open, trooper mechs. Let’s see how well Prowl really taught you.
The corner of his mouth turned upward in a sneer as he readied himself and started a silent countdown. He wanted them to be settled into their action and ready to fire on him. They’d have him in a triangle formation, with one most likely watching him from somewhere straight ahead.
Sideswipe hated disappointing anyone.
He ignored the higher functions of his processor telling him to go now, choosing instead to wait on instinct — when would he fire.
As his personal countdown reached zero, he activated his rocket pack and shot skyward as a stun bolts struck the rock where he’d just been.
He rocketed skyward, but at a shallow angle. He waved and laughed at the femme trooper as he passed over her head, but she was just as quick and aimed and fired.
He pivoted out of reflex and the stun bolt struck his rocket pack, killing it in a sputter of energon.
“You’ve got to be fragging kidding me?” he said as he fell toward the jungle floor once more.
As he neared, he transformed into his car mode and had his engine revving and wheels spinning before he landed, causing him to hop in an over-powered lurch before finding purchase on the overgrown ground and pulling away.
More stun bolts tore into the vegetation and ground around him as he zigzagged as best he could, though the foliage was thicker and the ground moister than his previous path.
Have to be Brawn to get through this… stuff.”
He turned, trying to get back to the path he’d previously cut so he could put a greater distance between him and his pursuers a thunderous sound enveloped him as a mech shot past.
His first thought was a Decepticon, but he recognized the markings and size before Broadside transformed and landed in front of him with ax in hand.
This is not my lucky day. It took him an astrosecond to realize Broadside wasn’t attacking him. Or is it? Sliding to a stop, Sideswipe transformed and smiled at his fellow Autobot. Not letting anything to chance, he focused most of his resources to overcoming the stun effect on his rocket pack. Gotta keep him busy until I’m ready
Broadside wrote: “Hehehe, hey! What’re you guys up to? Did y’all break into a fight? “I got your rear fender, Sideswipe,” he said, throwing a glance down at the red warrior. He returned his attention to the Autotroopers.
“Come get some.”
The mech’s intention both warmed Sideswipe’s spark and infuriated him. Why does everyone think I need help? He forced himself to clam down before saying, “Appreciate it, Broadside.” He debated how he should handle this. He didn’t want to give himself away too soon, but he also didn’t need some troopers going around telling others he needed help from the towering mech. “I was showing them some evade and capture tactics, and well—”
“We had him before you interfered… Sir,” the trooper that had shown the greatest disdain toward Sideswipe said as the others stood off to his flanks. All at their stun pistols ready, but they didn’t look too interested infighting the larger ‘Bot.
“You have to admit, Sir,” the femme said, nodding toward Sideswipe. “He does deserve it most of the time. If that happens to occur while we’re training under his instructions, we’ll see he gets the proper care.”
Sideswipe was indignant. “You had me? One lucky shot and you think…”
The first trooper gave Sideswipe a curious look, then looked at Broadside and asked, “Want to join us? I’m sure you’d be a remarkable teacher.”
Uh oh. Sideswipe’s diagnostic was finished yet, and without the rocket pack and Broadside involved, this was quickly becoming something he wasn’t ready to handle. Though, in true Sideswipe fashion, he said to Broadside, “Why not, Broadside? The more the merrier.”
At least this time, he had a plan. He just hoped it worked.
“Was there anyone on board Omega when you found him? Perhaps I could speak to them while I wait for Omega to be brought back online,” Prowl asked after having receiving his requested debrief from Springer and then sparing a glance in his direction. It caught the architect off guard. He wasn't sure what of value he could add to what Springer had told him or if Prowl was even asking him to in that ever-so-subtle way of his. His last question, at least, was more straightforward and Grapple did have some info in that regard.
"Ah, yes. Omega was carrying several fellow Autobots. From...where...I'm not sure, exactly. I haven't got the story and didn't quite think it my place to ask. But they certainly all look like they've seen better cycles."
The bounce beam faded and Jetfire stood there a few moments. He debated about flying down on his own power but he wasn't sure what security protocols have been put in place. Jetfire looked around and saw the two main Autobots he wanted to examine but also a wide variety of others. He knew he had to get everyone for a good idea as to what to look for and maybe other strains of similar genes. Usually Jetfire worked on weapons on the outside instead of seeing how they would effect the internal. If anything, this may allow him to come up with ways of disabling the current Devestator gestalt. He decided to walk over to Prowl to say hi.
"Hey, Prowl, I figured I would do some scanning for the gestalt project and take a general look around out of curiosity. I see Omega Supreme and Skylynx are here. Omega seen better days while Skylynx is as pristine as ever. I shouldn't be too surprised with the lieutenant commander. I promise I will stay out of the way."
Inside Omega Supreme
Neutro and his group had split up to the different sections of Omega Supreme. The damage had been wide spread and neutro couldn't shake the feeling some of this was quite old. Some of it were quick minor patches while others were a bit more extensive. Many of the systems should be updated but still amazing considering how old the omega sentinel is and the countless battles he been in. He is probably the only titan which still exists,
[Autobot City – Outskirts]
Sideswipe and the Autotroopers exchanged some snide remarks, loaded with sarcasm and with no shortage of banter. Broadside’s smile continued growing wider and wider underneath his helmet.
An Autotrooper wrote:“Want to join us? I’m sure you’d be a remarkable teacher.”
“Heh. We’ll see about that.” He spun his axe in his hand, the vibrant blue edge leaving a blurr behind as it spun. In his other hand, he had whipped out his rifle.
[quote"Sideswipe"]“Why not, Broadside? The more the merrier.”[/quote]
“You’re on.” The large Wrecker began walking sideways, slowly at first. “Let’s see you guys try to minimise some of that collateral damage. Wouldn’t want to have the build site topple on top of our heads.”
Broadside began running, to build up some momentum. “Sideswipe, head east. I’m gonna fly low, and this time you guys have to try and get both of us. From here until the eastern border of the valley, that’s how long you’ve got to catch us.”
“Ready or not, here we go!” A gray and red jet lifted into the air, as the Autotroopers began scrambling after them.
Autobot City – Outskirts
Sideswipe had to admit, he liked Broadside’s style.
Nothing like a mech after my own spark. Maybe it was Broadside’s brashness, his arrogance, or just his desire to see some kind of mayhem ensue. Whatever it was, Sideswipe’s concern at having the well-seasoned mech hunting him with the troopers faded and was replaced by an excitement the red ‘Bot hadn’t felt in some time. Nothing better than evading a proven warrior — a Wrecker, of all things — to solidify his standing. Any doubts about his abilities would be dismissed after this.
Broadside wrote:”You’re on.” The large Wrecker began walking sideways, slowly at first. “Let’s see you guys try to minimise some of that collateral damage. Wouldn’t want to have the build site topple on top of our heads.”
What? No. No, no, no, no, no! Don’t even think about—
For one of the few times in his functioning life, Sideswipe’s vocalizer was too slow as Broadside began running.
Broadside wrote:“Sideswipe, head east. I’m gonna fly low, and this time you guys have to try and get both of us. From here until the eastern border of the valley, that’s how long you’ve got to catch us.”
“But…”
Broadside wrote:“Ready or not, here we go!”
Sideswipe watched the gray and red jet lift off with a shake of his head.
“Oh, scrap my life. Why does this always happen to me?”
“Well, well, it looks like you’re not so tough after all.”
Sideswipe turned to the voice to see the femmebot smiling at him. The one that had a grudge against him had remained as well, but the other two had taken off after Broadside. Apparently, he wasn’t considered a threat by them. They think I needed his help and called him. Somethings never change.
Just glitchin’ perfect
“I expected so much more from one that’s spent so much time in the infirmary. Guess we now see why,” she said, her mouth curling up in a smile.
“So, are you going to run like you’ve been doing, or face us like your twin would?” The other trooper said, twirling his stun gun.
A sadistic smile spread across Sideswipe’s faceplate and the male trooper looked less certain than he had an astrosecond before. “Good thing you just need to stop me, right? Should be easy. How was that working for you?” As he finished, he launched at the pair, igniting his rocket pack.
Before either of them could move, he slammed into them, knocking them both backwards and into the trees. The male trooper dropped his stun gun, but the femme got a shot off. It struck one of the trees, severing a limb that crashed down directly behind Sideswipe.
As soon as he knocked the troopers aside, he turned off his rocket pack and transformed. His wheels were already spinning before he landed, and he sent dirt and grass flying at the two remaining troopers.
“Better luck next time.” He tore into the jungle, laughing as he ripped through the underbrush.
Autobot City – Inside Omega Supreme
Pharma paused, studying the final terminal and the readouts as they scrolled through the various energy levels and readouts.
Everything looks normal. Just a few negative spikes.
The spikes weren’t in vital systems and could be corrected after Omega Supreme was activated. Should the reactivation go smoothly, of course.
It wasn’t something he normally did. In fact, he’d always been opposed to such an action unless there was no other choice like they were under attack and had to move or if the mech had a greater ability than the surgeon did. Since the latter had never happened to Pharma, he was loathe to proceed down that path.
Sure, it would make repairing the guardian so much easier by relying on Omega Supreme’s own internal diagnostic routines to assist them, but was that a precedent he wished to establish? He wanted, no needed to talk with the guardian about the various mechanics and communication linkages between so many large, separate moving parts during transformation. The guardian was one of the few mechs that had to split his personality components between his different parts, and Pharma was convinced that was the true methodology behind creating a combiner.
More importantly, it was his ticket off this mudball of a planet, and the unclean and intrusive organics it created.
A slight groan escaped from him at the possibility that his research wouldn’t be enough to grant him passage to civilization. It seemed a simple choice: his patient and reputation, or his sanity.
Difficult decisions abound. he thought, shaking his head. Time for that later. I will not put any patient’s health behind my own desires. That would be… improper.
Feeling slightly better, though no less frustrated as his processor focused on how many organics could crawl into Omega Supreme’s sensitive programming.
“Primus, what kind of universe births these… things,” he muttered as he decided checking Omega Supreme’s logs would be beneficial in helping his repairs. After all, if they knew what exactly had happened to him instead of second-hand reports, the better he could service the guardian. Simple enough.
Like any other vessel, Omega Supreme’s rocket mode fell into the standard interior design as others at the time of his construction. That meant that in his processing section, his memories would be accessible with the negligible power level he currently had. It wasn’t quite enough for the guardian to be brought back to operational status, and if he was, he’d surely shut down for refueling, so Pharma had decided the flight logs would be sufficient.
Like other mechs and vehicles, the logs were automatically recorded and stored in their computer core, or in Omega Supreme’s case, his processing core. They were the same thing, really. One just had sentience and the other was an intricate computer system.
It didn’t take Pharma long to locate the proper terminal, and with a couple of quick key strokes, the terminal’s screen lit up with a soft blue light before shifting to its standard black.
Perhaps, having a computer specialist would be best to bring in? The idea had merit, but with the guardian’s other systems being repaired, was it really necessary? He didn’t think so. He wasn’t an amateur when it came to Cybertronian systems.
After a few astroseconds, the screen flashed ready and Pharma entered in his request and medical authorization.
Half an astrosecond later, his request came back denied. What in Primus’ name? I have the highest clearance. I’m trusted to work on… His thought trailed off in frustration. Ratchet, you scoundrel. I’m willing to wager you have the proper authorization, don’t you?
Once again, the urge to contact his friend and mentor gnawed at him, but he brushed it aside. If he called for help now, after all the work he’d done, what would that say about his abilities and findings should he prove successful? No, there was a way of handling this without infringing on his friend’s time and resources. He’d simply go to the mechanical horse’s vocalizer, so to speak.
Turning from the terminal, he pulled up Omega Supreme’s current readings. Still a bit low, but maybe… His desire nearly overrode his common sense and duty to his patient, but if he waited, others could intrude and he may never get this opportunity again.
His hand paused over the main release that would trigger the guardian’s higher operational systems. If I’m wrong and it’s too early…
It was a decision he didn’t feel comfortable doing so without informing the other, so he opened a channel to his current crop of aid-bots.
>>Bluestreak and Neutro, my boys, I believe reactivating Omega Supreme will best enable us to repair him in a quicker fashion. I suggest you secure your tools and persons in the event our friend awakens in a foul mood.<<
He paused with the communication link open, counted to ten astroseconds, then pressed the release switch.
A familiar sensation of energon re-energizing his stasis-locked, dormant form awakened the ancient guardian from his self-activated protective slumber.
”REACTIVATION COMMENCING.” An attempt was made but no. The energon provided was nowhere near enough to mobilize him but a quick diagnostic check clearly indicated he was still too damaged for the other Autobots to consider more than reactivation of his higher functions. Other Autobots his sensors could spot both crawling within is immense body and scurrying various tasks around him.
”ENERGY LEVELS BELOW OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. DAMAGE SUSTAINED; GRIEVOUS.” The giant boomed and continued with better news. ”NERVOUS SYSTEM OPERATIONAL LEVEL AT 81.37%.”
Convinced that at least he was not in hostile hands, the his immense sense of duty took over any concern of his personal well-being.
”REQUESTING PRESENCE OF OPTIMUS PRIME OR A REGIONAL COMMAND FIGURE. NEWS; URGENT.”
