Rampage was awesome. He had like a Hannibal Lecter type personality.

Beast Wars season 1: Not just horrible, but literally painful to watch. Seeing a monkey smear its own feces all over my TV screen would have been higher-quality entertainment than this.

Beast Wars seasons 2 + 3: Much, much better. "Transmutate" and "Code of Hero" are easily among the best episodes in the entire 27-year history of the franchise.

Beast Machines: Positively orgasmic! Dark, spiritual, great story, great characters... best TF series of all time up until TF Prime came along.

What show were you watching? Some Robot Chicken spoof or something? Cuz Beast Wars was devoid of feces.

Still better than Prime, man. ;)

Only if you restrict "feces" to the literal meaning

I'll admit that it's a tough call, but between Blackarachnia's grating voice, Rattrap's incessant whining, Megatron's camp gayness, and the 10,000 times when I have to listen to someone say "I am transformed", I realized upon a second viewing that BM wasn't quite as awesome as I liked to think it was. Prime also gave us an Arcee who is actually important, a Megatron who is once again voiced by Frank Welker, and a Ratchet voiced by the same guy who played Shran on Enterprise... plus, everything on Beast Machines looks like a screenshot from Quake III Arena, whereas Prime looks like proper television-worthy CGI, with shadows and particle effects and stuff.

Also, I think Sumalee Montano's voice is sexy.

They stopped this in season 2.

So?

Right, because they totally had the 2011 level CGI technology back in 2000-2001, but chose not to use it.

Ten years ago, that was as best as it was gonna get. Besides, surely in another ten or fifteen years, some will be looking back in Prime and calling its look dated too.

Though, you've carefully avoided any mentioning of the storylines between the two. Prime's plot only really got good as of episode 12 and onward, while its first 11 episodes varied from "below average" to "good but nothing too special". Whereas Beast Machines maintained its quality level of high-minded sophisticated storytelling consistently throughout its entire run.

Dude, we totally had better CGI than that back in 2000. War Planets looked way better, and it was made by the same people!

As for the stories, pretty much anything looks brilliant next to the Bayverse...

It looked the same to me.

Besides, what does the art style have to do with good storytelling and character progression?

Also, let's not forget that Beast Wars, while not the most stunningly realistic CGI ever, also managed to avoid looking like Quake III. For example, light reflected off of some surfaces (typically the Transmetal characters), which was something you never saw in BM.

Again, Beast Wars wasn't good because of its animation, but because of its compelling plot and well written characters. Just because something *looks* good or bad doesn't mean it *is* good or bad.

Stop whining and go watch beast machines if havn't already! It's compelling, serious, mature, and downright dark. I put it and TF Prime in the same boat.

Who's whining? I liked Beast Machines. It's my fourth favorite series (tied with RiD). But I don't know if I'd put Prime up there with it. At the moment, I'm not sure if I like Prime more, less, or the same as Beast Machines.

Not you, others! RiD is my Personal Fav of all time, with BM and Prime in a VERY CLOSE Second place...

Oh, ho ho ho, my good man. Now now. No need to blow a gasket. ;)

I've a good reason for what I said. The two form a perfected contrast between each other. I like putting these two together because of how far away on the spectrum these two are from each other. One's uber dark and mature, the other's very light and youthful. The two are like complementary opposites. :D

ok

BeastProwl wrote:RiD is my Personal Fav of all time, with BM and Prime in a VERY CLOSE Second place...
Here's how it works for me:
1. Beast Wars
2. Animated
3. Chōjin Masterforce
4. Beast Machines and Robots in Disguise
5. Cybertron
6. The Headmasters
7. Generation 1, Armada, and Victory
8. Go-Bots (Playskool)
9. Energon
10. Cyber Missions
11. Universe (2008 flash cartoons)

I left Prime out since I still can't decide where to place it. I know it'd be somewhere above G1, at least, but not precisely where.

I'm sorry, but the correct order is as follows:

1. Prime
2. Beast Machines
3. G1 (including the movie and the Japanese seasons 4-6)
4. Animated
5. Beast Wars (remember that this includes Season 1; otherwise, it would be much higher)
6. Armadaverse and Bayformers (both are heavily flawed, but in different was)
7. Catching AIDS from getting butt-raped in prison
8. RID

Those aren't seasons, those are separate series.

That's three different series, you can't count them as one. You can count them as a three-way tie, but not one single series.

That's not a cartoon. ;)

Did you grow up on this show? No? Well, that explains it. I grew up on Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and RiD, thus they hold great sentimental value for me, which is why I hold them all to such a high regard. I KNOW well that RiD was not a great series, but it's nowhere near as bad as people claim it to be (that title belongs to Energon). Besides, my list was not a canonical list of best series to worst series, but a list of MY PERSONAL FAVORITES to least favorites. There were no facts put into that list, hence why I left Prime off.

Why, what'd you grow up on? I'm glad to have been introduced to the series by the one that holds the highest regard among the majority of the fandom (BW).

Oh and, FWIW, your opinion is not Word of God.

In effect, two VHS tapes, each with material that was copied from tapes that my mom rented from Blockbuster. One tape had most of Season 1, though the episodes were in the wrong order (since we had no idea what the correct order was and not every video store had every episode). The other tape had a censored version of the movie and "The Return of Optimus Prime".

Hardly. I got to see the good parts of G1 - "Fire in the Sky", "SOS Dinobots", "War of the Dinobots", "The Ultimate Doom", "Heavy Metal War", the movie, etc. - without suffering through stuff like "The Girl who Loved Powerglide" and "The Rebirth".

It's certainly a million times better than growing up on RID or the first season of BW.
