That seems to be the thing with the villains in this show. Regular appearances by the more obscure villains who haven't gotten as much mainstream exposure or attention outside of the comics, while building up to appearances by more major, mainstream villains for really large, significant events.

Oh, and I hate to double post, but even the last line is now false. The whole "no a-listers except as arc villains" thing is out the window, since Deathstroke and Killer Croc both got their own episodes.
Well, thank you for the spoilers.

And I said that it "seems" to be that way, from where I currently am, not that it is that way for certain.

NO PROBLEM BEST BUDDY! I'd feel worse if A. The episode have been out for weeks now and B. This is a thread talking about the show. As we previously established in the TF Prime thread, don't come in here without expecting spoilers. (Which is funny, as I recall you saying that to me after I complained about exactly that!) Otherwise you might accidentally find out which character gets half his face melted off.

Which isn't a spoiler, I haven't seen that episode yet. Hell, I'd consider it more of a spoiler if Big Bad Harv didn't get acid-washed.

At least they didn't screw up Slade. He's got twice as many eyes as I'd normally like on him, but otherwise he's the Master Mercenary we're all used to.

Sabrblade wrote:And I said that it "seems" to be that way, from where I currently am, not that it is that way for certain.

From where I am, it's all one big old smelly lie. The A-listers are saved for special occasions...or just if they feel like it. While the D-listers are given entirely new designs and the personalities and/or character traits of the A-listers. Nice job saying you don't want to use the Joker, but then turning Anarky into the Joker anyway!

They really could have replaced these characters without changing anything too major; Replace Anarky with Joker, Pyg with Poison Ivy, Magpie with Catwoman, Tobias Whale with Black Mask.

Not going to lie, I've only watched two episodes. And it's like each time I watch it, I find new, glaring issues with it.

The Killer Crock ep was pretty cool. Harvey Dent has now officially become a cartoony evil authority figure, kinda like what a 4chan kid might view someone of his position being like.

Magpie isn't like Catwoman, sure she has this insane obsession and sexual interest in Batman, but she grows out of that pretty fast and is then only obsessed with shiny objects.

Arnarky is also not like the Joker, the only way they're similar is that they're both the "crazy obsessed guy who wants to make the hero see that he's his equal". If anything he's more similar to Riddler than Joker, due to the traps and riddles he poses to Batman.

Oh, Penguin's been brought up, with a pretty funny line actually.

And with the Joker's mannerisms. When Anarky and Batman talk after Deathstroke kidnaps Harvey? "Psychopaths, you just can't trust them. You'd think I'd KNOW that by now! But I'm a sucker for crazy. Anyhoo, it leaves quite a quandary for you, Bat-buddy." Read that in Mark Hamill's voice, it's remarkably enlightening. I get that they didn't want to use the Joker, but they just got lazy with it. Like they wrote him in, then decided against using him, and just replaced every instance of Joker's name with Anarky, rather than actually going back and writing Anarky himself in there. The "Power to the people" type, the kind of guy with a shrine to Che Guevara and a worn-out copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook. Less than a minute on Wikipedia would have netted you that. But they couldn't have bothered to learn about the character before writing them.

Because the writers of this show are a bunch of hacks.

I can see the similarities to the Joker in this Anarky, but when I first saw his behavior and heard his voice, another character came to mind. A Marvel character, in fact. Cletus Kassidy. Not as Carnage, but as himself. The 90's Spider-Man cartoon version, to be specific. That's who this Anarky reminded me of at first.

And, in a way, his voice and speech patterns also sorta remind me of the Leader from the 90's Incredible Hulk cartoon. It almost sounds like the guy voicing this Anarky is doing an impression of the Leader's voice, but more crazily and minus the whole "So says... the Leader," thing.

Cletus Kasady was modeled after the Joker. It's like saying Mongul makes you think more of Thanos than Darkseid. (Mogul was based on Thanos, who, in turn, was an admitted rip-off of Darkseid)

Yea, he was supposed to be Spider-Man's version of a Batman villain, evil for the sake of being evil.
Image
But he has changed since then, and they never really went that far with making him like Joker. Joker is most famous for being obsessed with showing Batman that he's just like him, while Carnage doesn't really give a toss about Spider-Man, or even forms plans, he just does stuff as it pops into his head.
Which is why Cletus Kasady isn't that good a comparison when you think about it, this Anarky is calculating and does follow an actual plan. If anything, we should call him evil Batman in a boring costume, with the ideals of Carnage, but slightly smarter than Carnage, plus boring and annoying.

The ep right after Killer Croc is another Pyge and Toad ep, I like these guys more and more, and another more prominent character: Man Bat, who's face looks more like a chimp with really long ears than it does a bat.
Toad is a little disturbing in this one, it's also Barbara's first proper outing in her sidekick role under her code-name. Not going the Bat Girl route this time, she directly goes to being Oracle without getting paralyzed.
Bruce, like a proper billionaire, has also bought himself a politician, and found a friend, who will totally not turnout to be an enemy down the line.

Gotta say, I want this show to continue more and more, the more episodes I watch.

It's damn near close to being as good as Batman TAS, and I like the approach of making it partly episodic and serialized. Another nice thing is how the entire first season is basically just set up. Not bad and boring setup, but actually pretty good setup that's fun in its own right.

Apparently Dent becomes Two Face in an episode that isn't online yet. Pretty excited to see how they handle Two Face in this. I'm going to call him burning his face instead of acid, similar to The Dark Knight, due to all the times the show has teased him burning his face until now.

The entire season is online now.

So I've been told that the reason why the heavy hitters aren't in this show is due to something called "the Batman embargo", which limits the appearance of Batman characters to one show at a time, and all the famous characters were apparently already reserved for Young Justice while this was made.

If that really is the case, wow, so it looks like Batman is DC's Spider-Man, he has most of the good villains shithead characters like Daredevil need to steal to not suck that much.

That was just speculation from the fans. The original Bat-Embargo was due to the producers of Justice League not being able to use the major villains, who were being saved for The Batman, while neither were allowed to use Robin while he appeared on Teen Titans. (Robin joined The Batman after TT was canceled, though) Since Young Justice was canceled at least half a year before BWB came out, this doesn't match up.

That, and the writers flat-out admitted that the reason they didn't use Joker wasn't because they weren't allowed to, they just didn't want to.

So I got around to finishing this show off.

The big bad at the end of the season was Deathstroke, the final episode is also the origin of how he loses his eye, well for this universe that is.

Harvey turns into Two Face, with the same two guys as the first, looking to see if he's OK, just this time their reaction is horror instead of disappointment. Although we don't get to see what Two Face looks like, having his face completely covered in bandages. Does refer to himself as "us" though, also no coin or anything along those lines, but that may come in season 2 (if that ever happens).

The status Quo that gets established at the end of the season is actually really intriguing, kinda like a more extreme "The Dark Knight" one with a big of "Dark Knight Rises" (Batman seen as a villain, and Bruce Wayne being dead).

Most of the heroic characters of the show team up in the end to defeat Deathstroke, who's read "Kraven's Last Hunt" and "Superior SPider-Man" a few too many times and wants to prove to Alfred that he's the better "son".

I really hope there's going to be a season 2, because this has really turned out quite excellently and, yea the last half of the season has been, well fantastic.

Pretty sure it's been cancelled. I don't think a S2 is coming. Shame based on the way S1 ended. Seems they had a plan.

Granted I've only seen a few episodes but was looking forward to catching up eventually.
Wonder when it'll arrive on DVD as a season set?

Considering they hired writers who clearly had no idea what they were even writing (Which I have to assume, since they completely gutted damn near every character's backstory, personality, motivation, design, and MO) this wouldn't have been the first idiotic choice WB has made.

The first was canning Young Justice and GL and replacing it with this crap and Teen Titans Go.

I fully agree with your last comment.
