I don't know about that. Maybe. I don't know if it was quite as unpopular as a lot of the haters would like to believe. The cartoon itself was quite UNDER rated. The figures were too, in my opinion. I also believe that anybody who actually gave the series and the figures a fair shake grew to like them.

I am a fan of both, as you can tell. However, I agree with you and the majority. If the figures aren't re-tooled to make Menasor (and from these photos it doesn't look like they will be) then whats the point? Of the many things I liked about the Animated line is that it WASN'T littered with re-paints that never actually appeared on-screen, ala Movieverse line. The novelty of making an animated combiner is the REAL selling point. Otherwise, they are just a bunch of re-paints strictly for the sake of re-painting and charging a hefty sum.

Quite frankly, when Botcon gets closer and screen shots of the final products surface, I could round up the figures and repaint them myself for a lot cheaper than the cost of going to Botcon AND buying them. Plus, I'd bet a dollar that reprolabels will make decals of the Stunticon Decepticon logo that I would be able to get to make my potential repaints good enough for me.

I won't do any of that, of course. However, my point is made. Without Menasor, this set is aimed squarely at the collect-everything, gotta-have-it suckers out there will would sell an organ for a bunch of scrap figures. Not I, says me.

I keep swapping sides on this "NO NOT ANIMATED!" then "YEAH STUNITCONS!!" I might as well buy my tickets and gripe later, the potential for more awesomeness is too great.

And I'm hopin for magnus repainted as MotorMaster. I know there is no chance of combining, but wouldn't it be epic!?!

I totally see voyager prime as motormaster. dont see them using magnus w/o stripping the electronics and a new head. I see blurr as dragstrip as well even though club members are gettin the chance to order animated Transtech cheetor. i could see rodimus being used for wildrider. don't really see breakdown coming from lockdown though

"Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire, Give Me That Which I Desire" Hell YEAH!!! Any set that uses Metallica song lyrics for a motto, I'm all for it! When it was just that first pic I was looking at I was thinking "Meh...might not suck" but to scroll down and see the whole thing and read that motto...they most certainly have my attention. The concept excites me and the drawings look great so I'm really hoping they can pull off the final execution of this and have the actual figures combine well and not look horribly out of proportion. I'm more excited about this set than any of the DotM toys even though I won't have a chance of ever laying my hands on this thing.

Ok when I heard the box set would be themed with animated molds I groaned a bit. I was never an animated collector though I liked the show I didn't like the cartoony figures (Lugnut) this will be my first botcon and I wanted to go into it with a box of classic molds. However the paint and the mustache alone just changed my whole opinion on this box. Looking forward to the other molds now!!!!!

"Hound (Swindle mold)"

Uh-oh, if they did that I'd have to get it.

I'm totally a cherry picker. I'm not much or sets, but I do like how dead end looks, though I doubt I'll like the whole set.

I'm not into Animated, as I never saw the cartoon (hadn't quite gotten back into Transformers back then) and I didn't like the design style, so I won't be getting the set this year.

Still, I think it's a really cool idea to do a full team as the box set like this.

Oh, now THIS I can get behind. And, if I somehow can't scare up the dough to just buy the Iacon package, hopefully the number of people who just hate this idea will translate into affordable e-bay prices down the road...

At least, I'll keep telling myself that.

OMG....now to be completely honest this all depends on who they use as Motormaster(not getting it if they use wreckgar probably) but if it's prime or (fingers crossed) Magnus, then I will find a way to own this set even though Im not going to botcon.

Yup, I totally called that today at work.

I'm thinking Wreck-Gar or E-Ironhide for Motormaster
E-Prowl for Dragstrip
E-Downshift for Wildrider
C-Override for Deadend
A-Sideswipe for Breakdown

Other exclusives mayhaps:

C-Hardtop for Beachcomber
C-Shortround for Seaspray
TFA Swindle for Brawn
C-Unicron for Bludgeon
E-Inferno for Hotspot
TFA Prowl for Groove
TFA BB for Streetwise
U-Ironhide for First Aid

and just throwing this out there...

TFA Thundercracker as Thundercracker

I'm pretty sure the Stunticons are all going to be animated molds.

Im thinking about going now. Although I collect very few animated figures, this is going to be a homage worth getting if they all look cool.

I started collecting after the 2007 movie came out (still had all my 80's one in the garage though). I liked the toys but wasn't really into the story. I ended up really loving the Animated Series, lots of stuff for the G1 fan obviously but done in a way where it's not saying, "this is how it really is", like how WFC and Prime are trying to do.

Animated was fun and it had awesome toy designs. I was unsure about the art style at first but I love the toys and have every single one. I was hoping for an Animated theme last year so I'm super excited this year. I just REALLY hope they make a few new heads or even retools but I think we can expect at least 1 new head.

As far as my guesses, I don't know but I'd hope they use these molds for something...

Rodimus
Arcee
Blackout
Starscream (voyager)

and I'm hoping for a Activators Wasp and an Earth mode Ironhide.

Is there a contract thing against Botcon using molds that were exclusive (arcee, rodimus, ect)?

They could even use some other series mold and slap on an animated head. Especially Beast Wars...

Also I'm probably a terrible collector, but I put all my figures in one continuity...so yeah I have like TFA Oil Slick vs RTS Perceptor(both scientists). So having a team of stunticons will fit this perfectly. Now I just need to get my team of "Protectobots"(Inferno, Ratchet, Prowl/Red Alert, Blades, and the White TFA Prowl)

I've actually got a few Animated molds I really like, but there's no way I'd pay con prices for any of these molds. I was hoping we'd get a G1 style set with Animated themed figures.

I'm gonna go a little into left field here:

Dead End --> Jazz, which has already been confirmed.

Drag Strip --> Lockdown (remolded head & equipment). The only other mold I can see as the Decepticon speedster is Blurr's, and we're already getting a yellow version of that toy in Transtech Cheetor. Lockdown gives us a lean, lanky racer... all set to wreck anyone who dares to try and pass him on the straightaway. Or the corners. Or in the pit. Or really anywhere, to be honest...

Breakdown --> Sentinel Prime (remolded equipment). Why should all the 4 limbs be speedy little cars? Why not have him as something a little more useful for the cause... and a little more apt for his name? With some remolding, he gains a wrecker hook, and becomes a tow-truck. And what better power for a tow-truck to have, than the ability to make other vehicles' engines fail?

Wildrider --> Arcee. Yup, I'm goin' there! Hot chick racer, tough as nails and more than a little unstable. And since we're reimagining the Stunticons from the beginning, why not imagine one could be a girl? She might not be big, but what she lacks in strength and toughness, she makes up for in speed and unpredictability.

Motormaster --> Voyager Bulkhead (remolded head). Why? He's a nice, beefy toy, with an appearance that would already imply a bully of sorts. This Motormaster might not be a sword wielder as much as a thug that rules the road via sheer brute force.

If it were me...

Jazz => Deadend
Hotrod => Wildrider
Blurr => Breakdown (The white with orange strip should play well with the car's lines)
Lockdown => Dragstrip (Lockdown has that stretched and modified look, and the spikes work)
Wreck-Gar => Motormaster (Retooled to look less like garbage truck, more like a semi)

Prowl => Groove (Really obvious)
Ratchet => First-Aid (Though with heavy retooling, I could see Animated Soundwave working)
Jazz => Streetwise (Lightbar Added)
Blackout => Blades (Remolded Head)
Optimus Prime => Hotspot

The Protectobots seem like a logical foil for the Stunticons, but I doubt it since, IIRC, Streetwise was done last year, and it would be pretty crazy to remold Blackout when he was never released here in the first place.

Honestly, in the Animated universe, the Stunticons could be sleeper agents placed amongst the populace to break Megatron & company out of prison... or malcontents urged to riot, given the apparent absence of a true Magnus after Ultra's apparent demise. But if the Decepticons have decided to start playing the Autobots' game... why not turn the tables and do things their way for a change?

The experiment that begin with Safeguard and continued with the Wingblade armor could be continued in an all new team of flying Autobots... 'Aerial-Bots' if you will. After confiscating several of the Starscream-clones, five were modified to contain the LifeSpark of volunteers (a 5-pack of Activators or Legends, decorated in Aerialbot colors).
