BotCon has officially confirmed David Kaye and Garry Chalk as special guest for this year's convention. The cat was let out the bag a little early when
Kaye left a message on Chalk's facebook page that mentioned seeing him in Dallas in April.
Garry and David will be on hand all weekend, taking part in fan panels, autograph sessions and the meet and greet for Golden Ticket holders. You won't want to miss meeting these two Transformers legends!
Gemini Award winning GARRY CHALK has been a professional actor for 33 years. He has appeared in over a hundred movies and television shows, among them Cold Squad (6 years), Stargate SG1 (several seasons), The Outer Limits (several guest appearances), and many others. He is most recently appearing in AMC'S monster hit The Killing, which has been renewed for another season. In addition, he recently filmed an episode of the TV series, Psych.
Born in Southampton England, Chalk came to Canada at a very early age and found that he enjoyed performing. His first television appearance was in an episode of Saturday Kids Party with Ron Morriere as a singer in a Kiwanis boys choir when he was 12 years old. Since then, he has appeared in many feature films like The Watchmen, Deck the Halls, The Fly II, Battle in Seattle, and Sea Wolfe with Charles Bronson.
His voice over work in animation spans 30 years and over a thousand episodes of cartoons. You can hear his work on Beast Wars (Optimus Primal), Transformers: Armada, Energon and Cybertron (Optimus Prime), My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (Fido the Diamond Dog), G.I. Joe, Sonic the Hedgehog, Reboot, and many, many more. Most recently, he starred as Sky Marshall Wade in the new hit series, Voltron Force.
Mr. Chalk continues to work in all areas of the entertainment world, from film, television, animation to theater.
For the past few years, Chalk has resumed his music career and performs at various venues in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada as a singer, guitarist, and piano player. But of all his creative pursuits, his greatest love is cartoons, and he says he will do voices in cartoons until the day he dies.
Garry thoroughly enjoys attending conventions and meeting the fans. He will often offer a musical performance at the conventions he attends, to the great pleasure of the attendees.
DAVID KAYE’S voice over career began with General Hawk in the DIC animation series, G.I. Joe in 1989. Working as an on air talent for radio station CKLG (LG73) quickly became less interesting as both on camera and behind the mic roles started taking up more time. Over the next decade and a half, David’s on camera burgeoned along with his voice career. On camera opportunities came in the form of guest roles on numerous TV series and movies such as the X-Files, Battlestar Galactica and Happy Gilmore with Adam Sandler.
Also during this time, David was being cast in some of the first, of what soon would be hundreds of, animation shows and video games. So many, in fact, this now became the main focus of his career and he’s never looked back.
David’s biggest moment was when he was cast as Megatron in 1996, in the hugely popular series Beast Wars (“Beasties” in Canada) that would go on to run for three seasons of “the most fun you could ever have!” says David. Thus began an almost twenty year relationship with the “Transformers” franchise, from his role as the “Decepticon” Megatron from the Armada series all the way up to 2007, when David “crossed over” to become the only actor in the history of the franchise to play the lead villain AND the lead hero when he was cast as Optimus Prime for Cartoon Network’s “Transformers: Animated.”
After twenty-plus years AWAY from the part that started it all, David found himself returning to the franchise where it all began… G.I. Joe! In the Renegades series, he could be heard as Scarlett’s father, and he also introduced every episode as the expo voice during the opening titles!
As the work keeps coming in, David’s voice can be heard in Insomniac’s “Ratchet & Clank” video game series as the loveable robot Clank. He's also been featured in “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions? as “Mysterio,” “Nick Fury? and “Captain America” in “Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2,” “Missing Link? in “Monsters vs Aliens,” the game and many more.
David is now working on another highly popular series “Ben 10” as the lead villain, as well as working with the great JG Quintel on “Flap Jack” and “The Regular Show.”
With on-going commitments for movie trailers, network promos for ABC, Fox, CW and a host of radio and television affiliates and a lot of commercial work, the days get a little tight from time to time. So much so that he even has a unit that he can use to record from his car. “Don’t worry, I actually have to pull over,” he says.
The projects continue to line up and unfortunately, the days don’t get any longer. David says “You won’t ever hear me complain, though. I’m working with the coolest people on the planet and deeply love what I do… I have though put in a request in for a 28 hour day!”
