They'd explain to you the various different things other than just material costs that go into pricing a product as well as the economy of scale for a tiny run such as 1500 units.

You'll then ignore it like you're already doing.

If you want an answer, ask an economist, they'll explain to you why your thought that the material costs going into something are the only factor is massively uniformed ignorance.

FunPub has a LOT of rules to roll with. (Can't use existing mold, can't use a character on the shelf, can't do a new mold, can't do more than 5 new heads, have to use molds that actually exist and are readily available...etc. etc. etc.) I'm tired of people blaming THEM for the rules Hasbro sets for them.

Let's talk about what they do WITHIN their parameters.

Think about it like this. It's like one of those cooking shows where they give a group of chefs five ingredients to see what they can make out of it. You don't complain "why didn't he make lobster" when there wasn't any provided. You critique the meals based on what is available.

SO, that said... It's a HUGE nod to fans doing these obscure and long-awaited characters. Head sculpts look spot on. Bodies look like good matches. (Plus back in G1 and the comic, MANY of the vehicles were just odd, made-up, wads of spacy looking bits. I'm not sure I'd want a G1 cartoon accurate vehicle for Devcon. It's a bit weird.)

I guess my point is... you can see a lot of thought put into these choices. It's a solid theme and some great characters. That's what makes any of these dumb toys memorable - great characterization through plots, stories, voices. Are they perfect? No, but they're really good - and probably the only versions of these characters we'll EVER, EVER get. (Did I mention EVER?) I'm really grateful to FanPub for giving that to us.

LOL, what did I miss in my model? I am not ignoring anything they said. I am auditing their claim. And I call bs if they are telling you that they are justified in their price point. Your kind of reaction reminds me of an addict that will say anything to forget their fix, no matter what the cost is, and then defends it and gets angry when someone calls it into question. Rather than lying and saying I am ignoring their claim, why not audit my figures? Go online and find some comparable businesses balance sheet, do the math, then come back and properly rebut my claim.

If you want to keep shelling out the cash, then go for it. But, don't get mad because I bring you the facts. Give them all your cash if you so please. What is it to me?

Complaints about BotCon toys being nothing but existing molds either redecoed or redecoed and slightly remolded as well are about 20 years too late by now.

shockblast2 ... I have to come to Fun Pub's defense on this one. They're a business. They're allowed to make money. If you don't like the prices they charge for these items ... simply don't buy them.

While I'd love to see BotCon and Club figures be much less expensive than they are, I can also understand a large part of why they cost the way they do. If you are an accountant working for a profitable company, surely you must understand that the profits from an item like these goes to pay Fun Pub's salaries, health benefits, wages for support staff, marketing, operational costs, packaging costs, the factory and other production costs, fees for event reservations, licensing fees, etc.

I would prefer to see the focus be put on improving attendance levels and using ticket sales/entrance fees as a greater source of income for this business model rather than making the toys ("souvenirs") be so expensive, but it is the way it is.

Since Tigatron was still based on a mold that was originally retooled from a Hasbro mold, do we know which BotCon toy (if there is one) was the first to be made from a wholly Japan-only figure? Like a BWII or BWNeo mold that Hasbro never released, or something?

I actually wondered about the recent Japan exclusives... we haven't seen any of the Go! line stateside. Those might be a surprise possibility for a repaint/retool. Hmmm.

Seibertron - I said and reiterated the very same thing you said. I am not forcing this information on anyone. I champion a free market and if I were telling people that they MUST do what I say they I would be a complete idiot. Spend your cash on whatever you want. I wouldn't have it any other way. But, that doesn't change the facts. Nor does it change your ability to make a choice. It is no different than scalpers on ebay. Noone is holding a gun to your head, screaming "you better pay $60 for that Swerve & Cosmos or I am going to kill you!". And I respect that. Just as long as you know the facts. In that scenario it is obvious because you have a comparison. In this you don't because they are not retail figures. If you know what I have said and you still buy it, then more power to you. Not me, but you are not me. I want to make that abundantly clear because I am not a dictator telling you that you have to do what I say. Again, I am sharing what I know to be true about this business. The rest is up to you to decide. But, if Funpub is trying to say their profit margin is fair, I am sorry, but they are liars. Because I know of no other products, save maybe apple accessories, that command such a high markup. I did cover the things you mentioned though, look under indirect labor. I also stated that assuming I am missing something I would even triple my model for arguments sake and you are still paying a 1200% markup if the figure is $50.

Well, there's SG Megatron from 2008, made from Superlink Galvatron or the Ultra-sized version of Energon Megatron. That was originally Japan-only until it was imported for that Toys 'R Us gift set with Deluxe Prime. And SG Scrap Iron, but he was a Japan-only retool as well...
I can only think of Thrustinator, as Ultra Mammoth had a US release before in the shape of Universe 2003 Nemesis Prime.

And since Dirgegun was made from Waspinator... I guess there isn't any (yet).

You think they're hinting at War Breakdown or Jet Vehicon?
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Well, Breakdown would count as wholly Japan-only mold since Jet Vehicon was made from PRID Vehicon.

But here is another idea. It's something they've never done before (a TF toy that isn't a TF). It's an obscure character. And it's an Energon mold.

The Energon Kicker w/ High Wire set done up as... Rorza, the Rocket-cycle Racer from Rigel III!

LOL. All things considered, I still think they'll get more bang for their buck with the fans delivering actual robots... but I'll be open minded. There are a few human characters that might get me excited.

Breakdown is a good mold... and big. I'd welcome that into the mix.

I wonder if we might see Necrotitan for sale at Botcon. Maybe that is the big first-time thing. Hmmmm. I'd be hugely excited about that, though it would cost an arm and a leg for sure.

I kinda hope not since A) yeah, that would be far too expensive, and B) I kinda don't like the Metroplex mold as it is.

Yeah, I don't think it would be a part of the SET, mind you. I could see them doing a SDCC exclusive style release, though.

Admittedly unlikely for Botcon, but I AM hoping for Metrotitan (or whatever IDW wants to call it) to see a release somewhere/somehow. (Takara, convention, store exclusive, etc.)

I agree. The first time I saw Devcon in G1 I was like "there should be a toy of him." A few years ago I thought that G2 Leadfoot would be a great repaint for Devcon, but I couldn't picture it.

I'm sorry but this has to be the most ridiculous statement of all Seibertron history.

So since Devcon has been revealed, is a Tidal Wave repaint out of the question now? Or is it still a possibility?

Also, I haven't done this before, so I have to ask, is getting the Iacon package, where the BotCon set gets delivered to us without us going to the convention a hassle? Does it cost more? How much later does it get shipped? Does it come in a box or in individual little baggies? Do we get a choice?

I kinda want to know this as well, since the chance of me not attending this year's BotCon is pretty good. I'd at least like to get in on the toys.
They call me “Tanker Chungus”!

You can get one boxed and one bagged max, if I remember right? I've done this before. Seemed like it wasn't TOO big a wait after the convention (??). Definitely beats paying eBay fees. >:oP

Sadly, you can't pre-order the add-ons (unless they've changed the rules this year.) I had to call a friend to pick those up.
