Cancelled/Unused Concepts You Wish Hasbro Would Reuse: Story Edition

Postby MaximalNui » Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:22 pm

So, among the myriad of storylines and series Hasbro cancelled over the year, which ones would you like them to take another shot at? How do you think they should be made, a tv show or a comic series?

Here's my initial list (probably comic series, since I don't see Hasbro risking and trying to make this a series)
- An Elseworlds-esque series exploring Transformers in different contexts, in the vein of the mostly-cancelled Evolutions of which we only got Hearts of Steel/steampunk Transformers in Industrial Revolution (either featuring them in different eras and technological/thematic styles, as the original concept, or different iterations of Transformers existence: energy beings piloting mechs like the scrapped BW spark pilots; transforming by rebuilding themselves like Construct-Bots or Robotix, cyborgs or technorganic like GoBots and TransTech, magic-powered Transformers...)
- Animated season four (either as its own series or as part of an "epilogue" series showing what happened to each continuity post-show)
- The cancelled Thirteen comic series (possibly as an exploration not only of the titular characters, but of Cybertronian myths as a whole)
- A Beast Wars series based on the early pack-in minicomic and bios, when it was still a direct continuation of G1

A proper ending to the original G2 comics.

A proper ending to War Within: Age of Wrath.

It would be cool to see the Transtech series,to see a post-Beast Machines series.Maybe just a comic mini-series? :-?

Yeah, it's sad to remember Dreamwave used to do good stories. Too bad most of it is overshadowed by one person's poor work and even worse ethics...

I'd like that too, but it'd most likely end up being based on the Collectors Club's TransTech instead. Probably as a crossover-focused series, or as a framing for a "what-if"-type anthology.

Another cool idea, from Phil Jimenez (and another reason to despise the New 52): a Justice League crossover, featuring Transformer Batmobile and Invisible Jet, and Green Lantern Optimus Prime!!!

Here is one I keep remembering, the season 3 of Transfornmers Prime that was suppose to focus on Thundertron and the Star Seekers.
The novel released was the introducing them and Thundertron even got a toy.

Another vote for TransTech and Animated Season 4. Animated was just starting to come into it's own by Season 3 (Much like Sunbow). So I'd definitely be interested to see it progress. Especially the episode featuring Joe.

Plus, Car Robots Season 2. I'd be curious where this continuity could have gone after the finale.

Animated Season 4 will forever be the media I wish had happened that hasn't.

But I will also throw my hat in for the original Transformers Prime Season 3 concepts and the concepts from Transformers The Last Knight that never saw full fruition. So many good ideas for that movie that could have been great if given focus and room to breathe each

Was Car Robots meant to have a second season? I though they never even produced anything after the one.

It's actually rather strange, between the original Season 3 of Prime and TransTech, it seems every time we're about to have a series focused on exploring a wild, reborn Cybertron, it's cancelled or changed before we get there. The closest we got to it was IDW1, and even then it seemed more focused on socio-political maneuvering than actually exploring the planet as far as I can remember.

Maybe Legacy will change that, if it's a sequel to War for Cybertron. And if it gets a cartoon.

While I was the first to suggest Animated Season 4 in this topic, in hindsight I wouldn't mind waiting a while longer, if only out of respect for Derrick J. Wyatt.

So, I never actually got to finish (or in the case of Energon, start) any of the UT cartoons, so I've gotta ask: is there any continuity where we actually explored Unicron as a planet with its own biome? Because some of the ideas for the G1 movie seemed rather interesting, such as "forests" of grass-tree/hairs (which I feel may have been the inpiration for that swamp set on POTP) and a "Mini-Me" moon (which I guess we got realized as Armada Dead End).

Spoiler from the later episodes of Transformers Armada:
We learn that Minicons are actually creations of Unicron. We get to see them being formed inside his body. They are,in a certain way, part of his biology.

Also from what I know from TF wiki, part of the Transformers Universe(2003) comic, takes place inside of Unicron.

It wasn't. As I understand it, it was a gap filler between the end of the Beast Era and beginning of UT. Which makes it all the more unfortunate that it's original designs were basically squandered on a one-off.

But that was my point. Where would they have taken Car Robots after where Season One ended? More new, original designs or more redecos?

That's not quite what I meant. Almost every media that has Unicron in it involves trips to his core, and they usually treat it as a purely mechanical factory/dissassembly line or as a single massive organism, at least as far as I'm aware. Way too much emphasis on the living robot part of "living planet robot".

I was wondering on giving him a similar treatment to Primus/Cybertron: a surface biome of its own, with its own geography, environments and lifeforms (even if only as extensions of his own biology and defense system), treat him as an actual planet robot instead of a Death Star with a humanoid form.

That would be definitely interesting, I would like to see that. However, to the point of why its not that way, I think it's done on purpose, to further highlight the differences between Primus and Unicron. The former is all about giving life and the latter is about taking it. Unicron thinks of himself only, so it wouldn't make sense for him to support any kind of life on any part of himself, unless that life has the sole purpose of contributing to his well-being, which is what his previously shown mechanical innards are for.

While I'm not entirely sure it would've been a good series, especially given the writing of the previous trilogy, I'd like to at least see the original plans for the cancelled Legacy cartoon.

Maybe it'll be the opening series for the new comic publisher. Even if it comes later than the intended toyline, a multiversal adventure would still be a great first series. Besides, one of the main criticisms for WfCT was the voice acting anyway, so maybe it'd benefit from a purely visual medium.

I'm totally on board with this. It would have to be an all-inclusive multiverse story (it's all the rage these days, hopefully Marvel doesn't burn us out on it), considering the figures we have gotten so far. Comics are my preferred Transformers media over both series and movies, and persobally I loved the Armada comics, especially the Worlds Collide arc. Legacy could be something like that, in the hands of a capable writer and a publisher who's not afraid to let said writer see the story through. And of course we need some very talented artists, with my personal favorites, Guido Guidi and Andrew Wildman, hopefully being included and Geoff Senior being kept FAR away.

Yet Unicron is supposed to be the antithesis of Primus. In many instances, Unicron ultimately signifies death, nothingness and void.

Primus = Planet
Unicron = Bot
To give him his own ecosystem, akin to Cybertron. This might seemingly set him down the road to being humanised. The Chaos Bringer especially would not benefit from that, at all.
That said:

The Wiki wrote:Floro Dery's production notes as shown on his designs for Unicron (then "The Entity") reveal some very interesting things that don't quite come through in the original film or were dropped:
The spheres on Unicron's rings are meant to be roughly equivalent in size to Earth.
The surface of Unicron was originally a dense jungle of metal and mechanical creatures*.
Dery's roundabout reasoning for giving Unicron rings is explained: "Saturn sounds like Satur [presumably meaning satyr]. Satur is synonymous with the Devil. The Entity is a Devil-like planet. This is the reason why I designed the Entity like the planet Saturn."
A moon is included (as in Takara's G1 toy prototype), but never explained aside from being flashy and conductive.

*Probably later adapted into the life of Quintessa?

Image

I like this Moon concept.
the planet Unicron would turn into the robot Ingestor. An early rough draft of the film detailed some of the specifics of this; the disembodied voice of Ingestor would have presented itself to Megatron as merely the master and custodian of the planet Unicron, communicating from somewhere within the planet.
Only at the draft's climax were Ingestor and Unicron revealed to be one and the same

Reappropriate the name 'Ingestor', apply it to this moon and you basically give Unicron a herald.

Rather amusing, but I found at least three cancelled versions of a multiversal crossover in mainstream media.

One I already knew about was Simon Furman's original pitch for IDW of an "omniverse in chaos". I don't know much about it other than that it would involve Unicron and at least the G1 and Cybertron universes.

Then I found out about Collision Course, the truly intended end for IDW comics, including a possible expansion on the rushed endings of IDW2019 and BW2021 and a continuation on Tom Scioli's Transformers vs. G.I. Joe.
Image

And finally, the true oddball I wasn't expecting: Transformers: Super Cross, the original sequel to Armada, with characters from both G1, BW, RID2001 and Armada trapped within Unicron and mutating from exposure to his essence, with the Mini-Cons in particular evolving into Omnicons. As some of you may have noticed, a lot of these ideas were recicled into Universe. Still, amusing to see the characters with the most powerful and pure sparks referred to as "All-Sparks".
