That's the result of a lot of patience and BBTS not forcing me to ship. I'm not expecting any toys (well maybe an electronic one) for Xmas. That's one of the "problems" with being an adult collector; ain't nothing left for people to buy me

Honestly if there wasn't MST3K gifts in there for my wife, it'd all still be sitting in my pile :HEADHURTS:

Me too  but expect a full report... eventually.

I researched them all pretty extensively so I know what getting involved with. Speaking of Spinout specifically, but for the prices I paid I'm willing to accept them warts and all. The only 3p I paid full price for was mp Ironhide (legends class one). He came with some tiny pink bonus energon cubes ;)^

Mech Planet Hot Soldiers Iron Tin aka Ironhide

Postby no-one » Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:18 pm

I was super impressed with Mech Planet's Sound Track, so I pre-ordered their Iron Tin and Big Yellow Bee. Iron Tin? Well OK... SoundTrackwave is a fun little figure, but fairly simple, like G1 simple and that's not a knock. It worked great on Soundwave and I was expecting something equally as simple for IronTinhide.

Image

Huh, a head, well that's not very G1 now is it? Well that was no surprise, I saw the promo pics ;) As you can see he has a really nice Ironhide look going on. One could even say it's a nice homage.

Not only is his articulation better than mp Soundwave (mp/Mech Planet opposed to MP/Masterpiece, if you haven't been keeping up) but his transformation is worlds beyond. I'd even go as far to say that his transformation is almost too complicated for a legends figure, at least the first go around. I had to pull the instructions (which aren't the clearest or realistic for that matter) because I could see what needed to happen, but not how to get there. See that little silver rectangle-ish part just above his waist, just below the red part of his torso? That part has to fold down to allow his waist to rotate around. The instructions imply that folding the front wheels down (they're on the sides of his torso) will pop/fold that part down. Well they don't and can't, I can see how they almost can, but ultimately you have to get a little thing to pry it down. I used a toothpick, but one of his weapons may help.

With all those words and that one small niggle out of the way, the transformation is very clever, more involved then expected and satisfying once you got though it a few times.

Let's start on alt-mode size comparisons with a few oddball official Ironhides.

Image
Image
Image

The alt-mode sure fits the bill. It's a great size, rolls well and just feels good. Nice, tight and compact. He lacks a few paint apps and could use a little sprucing up (filling in the missing side and rear windows). I'm hoping repro makes a kit for him like they did for mp Soundwave (which is in the mail). I did give a belly emblem though #reprototherescue !

Wanna talk about accessories? He comes with a lot of them. Some of which will really make G1 mouths happy. Two pistols, a very G1 laser rifle, that articulated missile launcher you saw on top of his alt-mode and a parts forming battle station sled (and three tank treads for sled)! Wanna see?

Image
Image
Image

Pretty sweet huh? If you didn't notice the rifle can stay on the roof when transformed and the two small pistol peg to his undercarriage and I just discovered can stay there during transformation on the back of his legs (sorry no pics I took all these yesterday).

Image

From the box the missile launcher comes attached to the roof/sled completely backwards and clipped on wrong. There is a c-clip type connection used to attach the launcher to the arm. Easy enough to pull apart to match the instructions and has a "3mm" and "5mm" peg for various options with the sled and Ironhide himself. As you can see they ape the MP version just a bit here.

For reference, here is the MP. Look at the bottom right pose.

Image

And the mp.

Image

The most perplexing "accessory" is... well, just take a look.

Image

Yeah, that's a bit huh and wtf is it? If you haven't noticed it's an unpainted light bar for Ambulance (Ratchet).

Image

It clips on the roof where the rear treads go in sled mode. Kinda odd, kinda neat. It comes attached to the sled/roof and must be removed before you can even complete the alt-mode. Here is is on the sled.

Image

Pretty useless, but to quote EmGo, it's a thing you can do. Meh, it's back in the box out of my way. Robot comp time!

Image
Image

His face sculpt is pretty spot on, especially compared to the angry CW and the derpy QT (I love that derpy lil guy).

Image
Image
Image

But that's not all. He also came with two tiny little purple energon cubes (in the box).

Image

And if you pre-ordered - two additional pink energon cubes (in a separate little baggy)!

Image

WUT!?! Pretty sweet bonus all around. I'm pretty sure those cubes are intended for mp Soundwave and that's where they are currently.

Not all is pink and rosey in mp Ironhide land. Other than the pain in the ass belt fold down, the hood/windshield/chest area pops right off pretty easily. It does hold on well with the peg it's on. I really can't see why it would be a feature, but it almost feels like it. I'm pretty sure a drop of glue would fix it without any loss of transformation ability. The last small issue may just be a QC issue with my copy, but the head split in half while transforming the figure. I can see where the glue failed, it holds together ok and can be fixed with a drop of carefully placed glue to not seize the neck ball joint (which I will do tonight). I have yet to find a place to store the threads in his alt-mode. Not really surprising for such a small figure, but disappointed none the less.

This is my second Mech Planet figure and I'm even more impressed with Iron Tin than I was with Sound Track. The first thing I noticed was how nice he felt with smooth dense plastic and a nice amount of heft for his size, most noticeable in alt-mode. The transformation while having a single hangup is clever and satisfying and leaves next to no kibble in bot mode. Bot mode has the expected amount of articulation and improves on my one hang up with mp Soundwave; ball jointed elbows. The deco (even with missing a few windows) is still impressive. There's silver accents where needed, those strips on the side of the van are gold paint and he has some brilliantly bright blue eyes. The thing you have to remember is that this is a $15 3p original mold legends class figure. This is an easy recommendation and I can't wait to see what's the next for Mech Planet.

Told you I went 3P crazy. Yerp, I got Ironwill on the cheap and I think they still have him and their Ratchet. Ironwill is on the burning a hole in my pocket list of figures to open. I still can't believe I didn't open Backdraft yet. Busy weekend.

Legy? You mean legends? If so yes, yes and yes. Mech Planet figs are nice and when in alt-mode could tuck in your shirt pocket. Solid dense little ambulance.

Hey, can the head fold down into the chest cavity in bot mode to approximate G1 weird mode?
Totes YES and I was going post a pic - give me a few  ;)^

Edit: OH! And how does he measure up to Official Leger dudes?
Leger? Wut? Legends? Depends on which one, but overall the same or slightly better. There are a few things that Has/Tak would never do because theirs are children's toys and you could say the build quality/durability of Has/Tak is better. Like the official ones could fall off a shelf and not make a bunch of choke hazards, where I couldn't say the same for these. It's the same comparison issue as any 3p to official in any size class.

Ironhide has the articulation and transformation of a standard deluxe where Soundwave is more in line with a legends figure; IH has less compromises than SW. Once their Bee is here, we will know more. He is not much larger than G1 Bee.

Give me a few to post a true G1 Ironhide homage

G1 enough fer ya? I also half transformed his legs to make him shorter and I pulled off the tummy emblem. It wasn't working for me. It was slightly off center and driving me crazy, maybe too large and the white wasn't working for me either. I have some other fraction logos coming in from toyhax so I'm going wait and see if those speak to me first.

That's a good way to put it. Probably about half the complexity for somewhere between 1/4 to 1/3 the price.

Anyways have some bot mode weapon storage options.

Hahaha, thanks for clearing that up. I totally thought of you when I realized he could mock the G1 style derp bot. I just didn't feel like turning on enough lights last night to take pic and he had a clothespin on his head because of the superglue.

Compared to lil Legends Prime. :-? Probably about the same height but bulkier. Not so sure if they would look good together. He is exactly 4" to the top of his head but it really depends on how they look together. I'll answer that question when I get home with a pic. ;)^

I know what you're thinking: "that dude only knows one pose, fists on hips." Well you'd be right, or one gun in the air

While we're on the subject of size class designations. Do they make any sense to anyone? Leader class is the only one that makes sense, Legion sorta does, voyager sounds cool, deluxe is a misnomer to say the least and what's so legendary about minibots :-?

I like the warrior class name that RiD2015 used. So here's a half baked idea, why not base the size names on the job sorta like RPGs.

Neat dino! Triceratops are the ... TOPS!

On Tinhide:
Man! I really like the looks of that figure, but his scale kinda blows it for me. Personally. He's cool, and I'm glad you like him. I would definitely play with him if I was at your house. I wish he was Legends size. Like as tall as Prime and the others.

Anyway, still a really good looking Ironhide toy! ;)^

About your size class classifications. Scout is still my default designation for that class in my mind. It perfectly describes their size in relation to their job. Little dudes, sneak in and out and all around providing intel and strategic data to their Voyager commanders while still being excellent soldiers in their own right. :-B

I like scouts. They be scouting!!

Size class wouldn't be a problem if all the figures ended up being w or x or y or z in robot mode. They keep making leaders smaller and stuff. Just keep them one size!!

It would seem the Mech Planet figures are meant to just be fun one offs. I can handle that. ;)^

But there is this....

MechPlanet_Figures.jpg
Hmmmm......
MechPlanet_Figures.jpg (12.47 KiB) Viewed 5473 times

The Mech Planet numbers leave me confused. Who or what is 01 and 02?

HS 01 = ? Takara Hybrid Style Convoy (according to the internet)
HS 02 = ? Takara Hybrid Style Galaxy Convoy (ditto) or a rumored G1 style OP
HS 03 = Sound Track (Soundwave)
HS 04 = Laser Bird (Laserbeak) included with HS 03
HS 05 = Sound Board (Soundblaster)
HS 06 = Bat Soldier (Ratbat) included with HS 05
HS 07 = Iron Tin (Ironhide)
HS 08 = Ambulance (Ratchet)
HS 09 = Big Yellow Bee (Bumblebee)
HS 10 = Robot Dog (Ravage) comes with pre-ordered Big Yellow Bee

I kinda feel that between cost, MSRP and retail; Hasbro is boxed in a corner for size classes. We need to cut out the middle man so they can make cool figures and charge us what they think is correct... oh yeah 3P ;)

Warbotron WB01-F - X-Ray & Gun Set - Part 1

Postby no-one » Fri Dec 22, 2017 8:20 am

I picked up the Warbotron X-Ray/Gun kit from BBTS while it was on sale (same price as the KO at aliexpress). Here are a stock image to bring you up to speed.

Image

I was hoping it would work with CW Bruticus. The combined gun works pretty well actually. It also breaks down into several weapons which I'm assuming are designed for the individual bots to use. They seem a little small for the combiner, even with the CW version. The problem is that the handles are designed for a figure with opening hands. I may cut the ends off as the actual handles seem like they would fit a 5mm hole. The large combined rifle breaks down into: 2 Rambo style survival knives with sheaths, 2 swords with scabbards, nunchucks  , there are 4 throwing type knives, one could pretend the long barrel could be used as a bo staff and all this attaches to a smaller pistol type gun. Have another stock image for reference.

Image

The cool thing is that the sheaths/scabbards have 5mm pegs. It was late when I finished assembling X-Ray so I only took the time to take a few pics of Bruticus holding the combined weapon. I think it looks pretty badass and better than legend class Shockwave.
