CLASSICS/RID/UNICRON TRILOGY/UNIVERSE/MOVIE Figures - Is this worth a pop..?

Hey alien robot lovers! :BOT:

I am looking to increase my collection with some older characters from past lines, so Im asking all you Transformers collectors for some advice.

I like a good Transformer to have a general 'humanoid' appearance, you know, two arms/legs & a head(!), well proportioned body, great posability, and definately not 'G1-brick-like'!!

A nice collection often has many figures which my be the 'classic' representation of an old fan favourite from the G1 days, given a make-over with modern engineering and a paint scheme which may homage the original G1 (or later) characters colours?

I am looking at the old Universe/Cybertron line which I keep spotting on the good ol' Electronic Bay and wondered what you guys think...? :???:

I have added a couple of pictures below of the molds but wondered which redeco to go for and which is most fitting for that particular character?

The Cybertron Defense Red Alert mold is big bulky and awesome.

Neither of the Repaints is Red alert. Also the Megatron repaint is a Botcon exclusive, so good luck finding one at a decent price. The Countdown repaint is an excellent update to the Micromaster namesake.

I 'd go for Red Alert, to complete the Cybertron Defense set.

Between Quickmix and Heavyload... If you are a cartoon accuracy nut, you'll want Quickmix. Heavyload, pretty much has nothing to homage, or look like. So unless the colors really bother you, he'll fit right in.

Hotshot. And his upgraded form Cybertron defense hotshot. Both are great molds. I own and love both. But regular Hotshot is still better In my opinion. For CD Hotshot mold I'd go for the Roadbuster repaint. Works better I think.

I do like how Heavy Load looks like he's wearing yellow dungarees though.

You had better avoid the mold in that picture then! He has very limited shoulder articulation (he can only swing his arms forward/backward, there's no lateral movement) and he has no foot articulation.

Wow! I didnt realise that was Megatron back there? Looks okay actually!! :D

Quickmix it is then! ;)

Yep, he looks pretty good too, both do!
I have only recently realised the recent TF Prime Hotshot figure is a homage to this character and not a new fella! Doh!! :P

I have just received my Voyager Vector Prime in the post, finally I own him!
Hes a really nice figure too, pretty large, and he has electronic noises too which I didnt know about? You can get some great poses going on! ;)

:D

Can anyone suggest any more great classics I have missed from the Robots In Disguise/Unicron Trilogy/Universe which offer up great articulation/posability and homages I need to know about? :-?

The RiD Prowl mold has been repainted into some iconic characters, being a Lamborghini and all. You guessed it, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, and Inferno who was meant as Red Alert. The twins are convention exclusives, while "Red Alert" was general retail.
Energon in itself was homage kingdom, in the shape of Galvatron, Downshift (Wheeljack), Bulkhead (an aged Springer) and some others.
Cybertron had plenty of repaint homages, mainly season 3. Hot Shot, who already was a Hot Rod homage, was repainted into Excellion who obtained his signature red colors. Armada Blurr was retooled with a G1-style head, and Brakedown was repainted with G1 Kup's colors. His color chart even called him as such.

Glad you like him too - he is my favourite Voyager mould! One day I will attempt to find Botcon Alpha Trion for a decent price, as it is amazing! The Cybertron Defense Hotshot mould is really nice, but fairly limited in its articulation.

Just found this little guy tucked away in the Toy Galleries!
Image
Looks pretty good in terms of articulation etc, nice posability.
He reminds me of Outback in a way (not including his bucket) :???: Might have a browse for him on the Ebay!!

Im also liking the look of these feathered friends!!
Image
This would be a figure (or two) I would keep in alt mode, they look great!!

Now this chap looks a little like young Hotrod if Im not mistaken... Excellion eh?
Image
Nice!

Just gotta say these bots look pretty sweet too! :D
Image
Image
I think he would make a nice Springer?

Darn you Hasbro, I love you (sometimes)! :P

Except that he has been used to fill up decepticon ranks in IDW comics. I used to find Heavyload out of place too, till I saw him in IDW's All Hail Megatron.

It would seem our tastes are the same when it comes to G1 repaints, as I have a couple more:

Cybertron Smokescreen
Image

A repaint of Cybertron Crosswise, he is a dual homage, not just to Smokescreen, but also to G1 Action Master Rad.

Cybertron Swindle
Image

Cybertron Hardtop repaint, his colors are based more on BT/Alt Swindle.

Universe 2.0 Blades
Image

Cybertron Evac this time. The G1 version had more white, but the red is striking, and the mold suits him really well

Universe 2.0 Ratbat
Image

A perfect example of how a repaint should be done. Made from Cybertron Sideways, his sharp angles evoke his Cybertronian from in the War Within comics. Even better, the alternate symbol is that of the Ultracons,

And finally...

Movie Crankcase
Image

From Cybertron Red Alert. This one also shows the deco designers' resourcefulness: the HazMat sign on his door comes from his Marvel Transformers: Universe profile.

Crankcase is a cool mould. I have him in my Neo-G1 collection standing in for, er, Crankcase. He even has a triggercon gimmick courtesy of his Cyber Key weapons release. 8)

I just have to mention these two:

BotCon 2007 Springer & Universe 2.0 Roadbuster
Image

Roadbuster is in the middle, Springer is on the right. Personally, I think the mold suits Roadbuster more, but Springer hasn't had a ground vehicle update in ages.

He's actually part of a combining set. They combine into this:
Image
Constructicon Maximus from the Energon Line.

They were sold single carded, but there was also a Japanese boxset in the Superlink line of these guys, if I remember correctly.

If you buy him you'll want the rest though the finished product is not the best, its still pretty cool.

For what I have these are what I recommend for you to own from Cybertron and Classic/Universe.

First, let me cheat by recommending Energon Leader Megatron. He's the best and he's a great hommage to G1 Galvatron.

I dont own much Cybertron toys so here's the ones you cannot be without:
Leader Optimus Prime. One of the best OP ever.
Supreme class Starscream. Huge and impressive.
Soundwave is also a nice take on the character.

Classic and Universe. So much to get if you are already into Generations:
Voyager Optimus Prime. Excellent even with the arm flaps. Get it if you can afford it.
Great deluxes: Prolw and Hound. Also, Starscream.
Great voyagers: Dropshot, Jetfire (or his blue redeco) even Silverbolt with his ""f**k U I got a jet on my back" attitude.

One line you forgot. Alternators. Yeah they are bigger, but so awesome. Consider Alternator the unnoficial "masterpiece" line. Especially with the Reprolabel upgrades.
Hound, Jazz, Rodimus, and Skids are a must for your collection.

Bonus 3rd party:
Delicate Warrior and Hegemon are the G1 Arcee and Megatron you MUST have.

As for Cybertron, I'd also suggest the deluxe Downshift mold, it's just such a great altmode! And it's a pretty nice Wheeljack homage too, while having his own style. :) There's a repaint from the '07 movie line called Big Daddy, which is equally as great, if not better.

Anyone mentioned Cybertron Starscream yet? He and Energon starscream are both great. :D

Cybertron prime + Wingsaber is great too, though I have not been able to find one for a decent price.

I really like the Ratbat and Roadbuster repaint homages. Sadly, they were packed in 2packs with other homage repaints that I didn't like so much. Springer out of Evac is ok, but Dirge out of Starscream isn't the best.

One could easily put Dirge next to Cybertron TRU 2-pack Starscream:

and call him Thrust  Alternatively, one could look for both red and regular brown Powerlinx Thrust from Armada:

Image

Sadly, Seibs forgot to put up a regular Powerlinx Thrust gallery up.

The Unicron Trilogy had some nice figures. The Energon and Cyberton lines, in particular, had a lot of really neat homages. I'll list some figures you may want to check out from each line.

Armada: Deluxe Prime, Deluxe Nemesis Prime
Energon: G1 Deco Starscream, Shockwave, Leader Galvatron, Towline, Downshift, Arcee, Insecticon, Scorponok, Rodimus, Mirage
Cybertron: Voyager Starscream, Legends Sunstorm, Leader Prime, Leader Galvatron, Dark Scorponok, Excellion, Soundwave
Universe figures/repaints that use Unicron Trilogy molds: Botcon Bonzaitron, Universe Blades, Universe Springer, Universe Ultra Magnus, Universe Ratbat, Universe Dirge, Universe Superion, Universe Bruticus, Classics Devastator, Transformers the Movie Big Daddy, Botcon Weirdwolf, Universe Target Exclusive Leo Prime, Universe Blaster

Figures that aren't homages, but are still worth owning: Micron Legends Tidal Wave, Energon Scowcat, Energon Perceptor, Cybertron Sideways, Cybertron (or Universe) Vector Prime, Cybertron Shortround, Cybertron Thunderblast, and Universe Dropshot.

I'm not sure if these two guys are being considered, but you should look at Armada Unicron and Cybertron Primus. Those two figures (IMO) are almost essential to any TF collection purely by reason of the Transformers mythos.

Would you trade it over for the Takara Japan Exclusive Supreme Starscream repaint of that voyager mold? Or something else?

Well its been a while since I updated this thread, so...

Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons Voyager Payload

This guy looks a little dodgy from the rear..
Image

..but looks ok from the front!

Image

What do you guys think, is he worth picking up for the right price? I have browsed the photos in the Toy Galleries but how did you guys get on posing him, how stable is he with that back kibble?

Worth a pop..? :-?

Can't say one way or the other personally, but I've heard some fairly glowing praise for the size and stability of the mold. Also, the back kibble looks like a big shocked face.
