Custom Devastator (be gentle with me, it's my first)

what we have here, is a custom devastator that I've been working off and on for about a year (more off than on with a one year old and a three year old running around here haha)

It is MAINLY a repaint of a kind of KO from Interchange, it's a new mold, but it was obviously MEANT to be devastator, but it does have some added extras.

(note, this custom does not need Hook, nor do I have him)

I resculpted the head of Long Haul to look less like the optimus prime KO head that he originally was intended having for some reason.

I cut off the face of Scrapper cause it shared the same face as the Bonecrusher type mold. The face I put on him was from a road-bot style figure from dollar general that was a ford mustang (officially licensed too)can't remember the name brand of it though.

I also had to come up with a way for mixmaster to wear the mixer barrel on his back like a backpack, so I made a mounting post on his back for it. I also had to fill a recess in the mixer tank holder for the dual laser thing to post in above his head. (the dual laser is actually from a KO devastator itself).

Devastator himself also had to have a major facelift. He had these uncharacteristic horns on his head...they had to go, but since it was a cheaper figure once I sanded those off, I found out the head was completely hollow,...so had to back fill over the holes left by taking the horns off.

I Disassembled everything, and gave it a good plastic primer coat. Then gave everything either a coat of the most awful purple in existence, OR a pretty cool looking slime green coat. (both of which seem to match up pretty well, I think) then I hand brushed all extra small purple, black, rubber, red, and silver details.

OH! and I almost forgot,....I had contacted Reprolabels.com to see if they could do me a custom order of the original devastator sticker sheet,...just up-sized one and a half times....and they did,...and they look beautiful! I can't thank those guys enough for doing that! sure it cost me a little extra to get them up-sized,...but YOU have a look yourself and YOU be the judge.

so without further ado....I bring you the first full custom work I have ever attempted DEVASTATOR!!!

It looks odd, but thats not you, it's the toy itself. I think I like the bot modes by themselves more than the combined mode. But jeez, that thing is big!

yea, I get that odd sense from it too,...I think it's because it has a top chest piece instead of Hook....I've seen versions of this guy online before with Hook,...but could never find one to purchase, Stumbled across this guy at Big Lots, but he had two scrappers for legs and two bonecrushers for arms, then I found the mixmaster and scavenger in a two pack a few months later at the same big lots.

I think subconsciously I took my time on finishing this guy this past year hoping I'd stumble across a Hook figure, but nope, no such luck.

similar yes (very), but copied, nah, not the same mold at least, same style with the pointy things stickin' out on top though.

Now, I'm just torn,...do I put this up on ebay to sell (would it be sellable? marketable I mean) OR do I put it up on my transformer shelf and keep it for myself. haha

I don't know how marketable it is. it's a modified knockoff. Maybe someone would be interested in it, but I wouldn't buy it.

No Offense, it's cool and all, and I really think it's impressively stable for its size. But that combined mode, at least in the arm section, irks me for some reason. To far out, and dis proportioned.

Again, none of this is your fault, it's the design.

I think you did an amazing job. Making whatever that was even remotely look like devastator is nothing short of impressive. Id'e say keep it, and use it as a sort of "What can I improve next time?" Sort of deal. Or stick it on your shelf. I really have no clue. :D

I've been on the side of keep it on my shelf (mainly because I don't have a green devastator there for some reason, shocking, i know)

yeah, the arms do stick out a bit more than they should, like I said though, there IS a version of this floating around online that has a Hook look-a-like for the top part, and the arms peg into him instead of the odd purple shoulder part. Maybe I'll just hold onto him and if sometime in the future i run across Hook, I'll do him up and see what it looks like then. (i've even see a version of this that has a big red farm tractor instead of the dump truck for the main piece,...now THAT one is weird lookin! haha)

but for a KO, it IS freaking huge,...too huge to pass up putting it on my shelf.

The base figures are kinda weird (especially "Devastator's" shoulders), but he's so wonderfully huge!
That's also a very nice shade of green and purple.

The shoulder joints look worrisomely thin to me, but you did a great job with this! It's certainly very impressive. :)

Impressive. Devastator's proportions, although, are rather funky.
