The Obliteration--Command Quarters
Onslaught listened to the Predacon Commander's analysis of the situation intently. After all, he had come to trust and respect the fellow commander's assessment of various strategic situations. And who better than he to possess insights regarding what had occurred on Cybertron prior to the Combaticons' return there?
"Hmm, your assessment of Thunderwing's motives is...intriguing. If what you say is true, he may see this as his opportunity to take command for himself. If all the various members of Megatron's high command structure feel similarly, things could get...destructive. I wonder who among them--if any of them--would be best to continue Megatron's vision."
That thought had crossed his mind many times, in one form or another, all during the course of the previous orn.
Blackwind's status as a confidante of Thunderwing was news to the Combaticon. He knew little of her, save for that her loyalty to Megatron was fairly well-known.
"If Blackwind is as close to Thunderwing as you suggest, she will likely do whatever he says, just as she did with Megatron before him."
If Thunderwing placed his support behind Shockwave, it seemed that Blackwind would likely choke down her distaste for the cyclops and follow suit. But if her distaste was that potent, Onslaught suspected that she would play to Thunderwing's nobler ambitions and push him to make a play of his own. After all, that's what Onslaught would do. Regardless, there were still too many "ifs" at play. For Onslaught, the coming breems would involve removing as many of them as possible.
"We still find ourselves faced with the same opportunity as we did on Cybertron--ensuring that the correct Decepticon leadership is in place. If this descends into utter chaos, I'm not going to sacrifice my unit to the whims of some would-be usurper's ego. I was reluctant to even think it before, but if matters continue to take shape as they have, is it also reasonable to ask if those of us who lead these tactical units on a cycle-to-cycle basis are better suited to shaping the future of the empire? We are already kingmakers. No one will lead the Decepticons if they do not have our support. Perhaps we should not so readily dismiss the throne itself."
Before, Onslaught would have felt treacherous, broaching such a subject. With circumstances what they were, it was now unavoidable. There was too much at stake to simply allow the next in line to take Megatron's mantle if they were not worthy to do so.
