Cartoon: Armada

Toy: MP-10

Fictional characterization: Torn between G1 cartoon and Unicron Trilogy... G1 cartoon Prime could be a lot more emotive and hardly, if ever, doubted himself... but Cullen is overrated and has by FAR lost his touch in the intervening years. UT Optimus was also fairly emotive, but was also rather inconsistent in his depiction from one series to the next.

Visual depiction in fiction: IDW Ongoing. Hits a good balance between numerous visual styles in his modernized design.

Plastic representation: Classics/Henkei Voyager... same as above, but with less mixes and more shameless kibble! If there's one thing I couldn't stand about Optimus'(and Megatron's) G1 design is how plain they looked, so some outstanding kibble really helps his silhouette in my opinion.

I honestly dont know what my favorite toy version of Optimus Prime is. I currently have 87 different versions of Optimus Prime/ Convoy US and Japan. And the amount of Primes I own is going to increase greatly in the next several months. Projected to have at least 105 different versions of Prime/Convoy buy mid March!!

As for a character I like G1,movie and TF:Prime OP's

as for a toy its hard but for some reason I like the Animated toy a lot

Well G1 was the bomb......so next to that id say (and i might get ran off this site for this one) the live action optimus...he was just soooo BAD A...who dosent lov2e atleast the forest battle? the movies have there flaws but prime was a true leader as he should be

oh and the TFP optimus also...lol

Design-wise, the seat is shared between IDW's OP, WFC OP, War Within OP and Bayverse OP. I love complex-ish and modern designs.

If I had to pick a favorite, I guess it'd be WFC. There's just something about that alt mode that I just love.

Character-wise, G1 and the video games.

Toys: There is no comparison. G1 Optimus has more toys than any other character, and has tremendous variety. I love MP-10. I love the Classics Voyager mold. I love the TF2010 Deluxe G2 Laser Optimus, despite his horrendous color scheme (real bots use energo swords).

Fictionally, however, it's a bit harder to say...

Comics: The IDW ongoing characterization is probably my favorite, because both Marvel G1 and Dreamwave suffered from some inconsistent approaches to his character. In IDW, Prime's doubts and inconsistencies are made character traits, turning a glaring flaw into a strength.

Cartoon-wise: While I'll never forget the death of Optimus Prime in G1, for me, there is a moment that I feel encapsulates the character: in Orion Pax, Part 3 of Prime.

His compassion is tempered by militaristic doctrine and while kind, he is stern and serious. In my opinion, Prime Optimus is the best fictional representation of the character, and exactly the sort of hero we expect Optimus Prime to be.

I have to say that my favorite Optimus Prime is defenitely the original G1. Who else could it be? That's the one from my childhood and is the most awesome of all.

Toywise, here's my top 3:

1) MP-10, Hasbro version. Sure, not as big as the MP-01 original and no diecast, but he's just perfect in every ways. He's also pretty fun to transform too.

2) The original G1 toy. Perfect vehicle mode, and a great robot mode. Also, nostalgia goggles. Plus, he's surprisingly posable for a G1.

3) Galaxy Force Leader Optimus Prime. His only fault is his peek-a-boo head in vehicle mode. Othewise, he's pretty awesome and his super mode is boss!

Note that even if God Ginrai is my favorite Transformers ever, he's not really Optimus. As Primal.

but seriously, prime optimus prime is by far the most BA of any prime overall. some prime toys have more play value (though with the coming of the dr.wu add ons such as blasters, blades, and star saber this gap may be closing...) but this prime is the best when you combine his on screen character with his toy.

his first edition toy looks great, accurate, poseable, and solid

his character is by far the most battle ready of any prime i have ever seen while reataining his optimus personality having already sacrificed himself twice in defense of friends and humanity. other primes may be armed to the teeth but they seem to lack that chuck norris ass kickingness quality. Prime prime kicks ass! i have never seen an optimus knock around decepticons like this prime does to megatron and his goombas and even an army of unicrons! ("orion pax pt3", "one shall fall", "one shall rise pt.2")

plus he's voiced by Peter Cullen, the definitive optimus voice

number 2:g1 prime who can lift a super tanker and throw it with ease and is almost as good at kicking ass and better at sacrificing his life and whose toys number in the dozens including two masterpieces that rock

Movie Prime because he doesn't believe in giving Decepticons the time to try anything. He's ruthless and goes straight for the face.

You always gotta love G1 Optimus Prime, though the ones i really liked was the Movie and Prime version.

OK, since no one else wants to, here I go. My favorite prime in fiction? Animated Optimus Prime.

No Peter Cullen? Stop complaining! I love the guy, but stoicimus is getting old, Animated Optimus had something that no other modern primes seem to have: Personality.

And when he lands on earth, he goes public, just like G1 prime. He also is weeker than most cons and has to use his brain to get him through most situations. He whent toe to toe with Megatron a few times. Megatron the tyrant. Megatron of legend. The Megatron that would never so much as acknowledge him as a worthy foe.

My favorite line from Animated? :My name...is OPTIMUS PRIME!!!

After that, he does what Ive seldom seen any other prime do. He gains Megatron's respect, and to an extent, fear.

Animated Optimus Prime wins because, besides all the crap he whent through with Megatron, Sentinel, and everything else, he also turned into a great leader, and at the end of the day, he had had problems and memories, regrets, just like everyone else.

And he wasnt afraid to listen to his team mate's problems and help wherever he could. He wasn't to dull to crack a smile, or liven up the mood when no one else would.

TL;DR He was a good leader, a great strategist, and was a great friend at the end of the day.

Toywise: RiD Optimus Prime or Cybertron. Tied.

Also, sorry, im on the PS3. It has a word limit, it sucks.

Generation 1 Optimus Prime is the classic model that all other characters are based on. Plus he has his own theme song until the end of time. Nobody can beat that.

Toy wise though, Laser Optimus Prime takes some beating. I'll always remember opening him up on Christmas day and proceeding to beat the **** out of G1 Prime's toy all day. Happy times.

Yes, yes, yes! I thought I was the only one. I couldn't agree more with your entire post.

Of all the series, Animated is by far my favorite. Although Jazz is my favorite character from Animated, I do love David Kaye's take on Optimus Prime. Even the back-story about how he went to the voice auditions thinking he was auditioning for Megatron and they asked him to do Prime's lines is compelling. The way that character developed throughout the show was spot on and overall the writing (combining story, humor, suspense and action) was by far the best. Also, finally, a show that gives someone with the name Ultra Magnus the proper respect that any name that begins with Ultra should received

I love G1, don't get me wrong and I am going to be sad to see TFP go at the end of the season but what I wouldn't give to get another season or two out of Animated.

As far as toys go, though, I have to say MP-10. I stare at it. I can't believe I own it and I feel like am looking at something that walked right off the screen of my TV. Two close seconds are Armada Prime (maybe because he is the newest in my collection) and Classics Prime (although I actually like the Ultra Magnus coloring better.)

This is a tough question for me. Off the top of my head, my favorite Optimus Primes are

1. G1 - THE original
2. Laser Rod Optimus Prime
3. Powermaster Optimus Prime
4. Cybertron Optimus Prime
5. ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime

Of those 5, the nostalgic factor wins for G1 Optimus Prime every time.

Laser Rod Optimus Prime was one of my favorite pre-Internet finds. Never heard of it. Didn't know I should be looking for it. And there it was ... at KB Toys on the top shelf. Only one left. Only time I ever saw it in stores. I bought it on my last day of high school.

Powermaster Optimus Prime is just a big, bad ass version of G1 Optimus Prime. I was 11 when I got him. My Dad bought him for me the weekend my little sister was born to let me know that I was still special. Aw, thanks Dad! Add the personal sentimental value to the build up of the character in the comic and the exclusion from the cartoon and the fact that it was MY first Optimus Prime, and it was a pretty cool Optimus Prime in my book. Fast forward to G2, Powermaster Optimus Prime FINALLY has an equally sized arch nemesis with G2 Megatron.

As for Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime, there's just something about this toy that I love. It's massive and has a lot of playability. It's cool looking ... very Japanese to me. Optimus Prime's with wings really get me, which probably comes from the first time I ever saw a God Ginrai boxed at the Motor City Comic Con way back in 1995 (what? they came out with an Optimus Prime with wings in Japan? how cool is that!?!?)

ROTF Leader Class Optimus Prime is probably the quintessential Transformers toy to me representing everything I love about this brand in its modern incarnation. Its poseable. "Show" *ahem* Movie accurate. Big. Intricate. There are so many things to love about the most Masterpiece like Transformer to grace one of the regular retail lines.

Of those 5, I'd probably have to go with ROTF Optimus Prime as my favorite Optimus Prime toy. However, if I had to get rid of every Optimus Prime toy except for one, I'd keep the G1 version.
