AutoBorst wrote:Sweet lord, that Soundwave looks amazing, enough to bring me out of my lurker shell and actually post for once. Fans have been asking for this since MP1. And the news on the additional cassette is great news (though BBTS's 31% markup is complete crap, but this is why I won't buy from them anyways).

they also said this..

"Please Note: The addition of Laserbeak to the MP-13 has increased the Japanese retail MSRP as well as wholesale costs by 31%. We have updated our listing to include Laserbeak and adjusted the pricing as well. 'Thank You' pricing is still in effect - preorder now and save $20 off normal preorder pricing"

"We appreciate your patronage and want to thank all our valued Transformers customers by offering a special preorder discount on this item! Transformers and Transformer customers have been a key part of BBTS since inception in 1999! If it’s been a while since you’ve purchased from BBTS, we want you back! If you’ve never shopped with us before, give us a try - we won’t let you down! Our Pile of Loot, Secure Shopping, No-Strings-Attached Preorders, Gigantic Selection, Vintage Department, Collector Grade, Protective Packaging, and Superior Service make BBTS the #1 destination for collectors. "

BBTS is a truly fantastic place to shop. i've tried other places, but i always return to BBTS. their customer service is literally the best i've ever experienced... ever.

and to me.. their prices are pretty good (except, the american releases seem a little pricy.. but why buy from there when you can just go to the store..)

their no strings attached preordering is the greatest thing.

I don't see that. MP10 stands the same size as Rodimus, which is barely an inch taller than Hot Rod himself. Based on the size comparison picture between Sideswipe only comes to his waist. Sideswipe should be just as tall as Hot Rod. Sideswipe looks like a mini-spy.

Unfortunately new new MP scale has completely screwed early MP collectors out of having a consistent and accurate series collection.

I haven't watched the G1 cartoon since I was a kid, but if memory serves, the car bots were more or less rib height standing next to OP. To me at least, the Classics Autobot figs are in reasonable scale with MP-10. So as long as Sideswipe doesn't dwarf Classics Red Alert, I consider them to be in relative scale.

I'm basing the scale on the G1 cartoon, which admittedly inconsistent at best. But it mostly had the car bots (Prowl, Jazz, Sideswipe etc.) considerably shorter than OP (up to his ribs IIRC), which IMO makes MP-10 scale well with my Classics figs.

I can't comment on MP-09 basically because I never bought him.

In any case, I remember an interview with Takara stating that MP-10 is now the new size standard, which all following MP's will be scaled with.

Exciting times. I'm loving this line.

I'm sure that due to their lack of size they won't be labelled such, but rather a MP-13n side.

You don't consider this Laserbeak a masterpiece? It's probably the best version of the character ever. I hope we get a better look at Ravage and Frumble soon.

Great looking masterpiece Laserbeak. Too bad they couldn't make the canons on his boosters a little longer.

I'm still not happy with the MP scale change starting with MP10. :BANG_HEAD: Seeing Sideswipe and knowing he won't at least be as tall as MP9 Hot Rod made my decision to not buy him pretty easy.

You make a really important point - I truly hope Soundwave does not turn out to be shorter than MP Starscream.

he won't be.. the scale really changed with grimlock and Rodimus.. if you read the post above.. they explain it pretty well.like zodconvoy said (which i believe is one of the best posts in this entire thread) the hot rod/rodimus toy was supposed to be mainly for rodimus prime. it wouldn't make any sense for sideswipe to be as tall as him.

plus, if we want all of the autobot cars.. i'd rather them stick with this scale. they'll be cheaper, and we can get more of them quicker.

mp01-04 was just entirely too large. it really makes having any of the larger figures impossible. with this scale we MAY* be able to get a devastator, or an omega supreme.. while still having it be in scale and reasonably priced.

i personally wouldn't mind replacing my entire generation/classics collection with masterpiece figures. because you know that each mold for each character will be as close to screen accurate as possible.

having red alert is a good example.. with the fake wheels on his shoulders.. same mold, and it's something they easily could've skipped, but they didn't..

I am very familiar with the statement that Takara made in the translated article nearly 10 months ago that the MP line up would take into consideration scale. However, it doesn't guarantee anything. MP Soundwave could be two inches taller, or two inches shorter, or the exact same height as MP Starscream.

i've already preordered soundwave and sideswipe from bbts, i'll wait to see what price HLJ attaches to them.

soundwave is all kinds of awesome, with the magnet links, eject buttons, cassette minions and his accurate looks

great job takara. i'll have one, thanks

Did anyone watch the video? I'm wondering if there are magnets at play. For example when he transformers Lazerbeak or when he puts it on SW arm and shoulder. Made me think of those Bakugon type toys and all the possible uses te magnets could maybe have. Just a thought, like launching the cassette using
Magnetic force and having it instantly transformer as it does so.

Can not wait for this (already had it on order since I first heard) now I just wish we could have a MP Overlord, Galvatron, and a retooled Megatron minus the weak legs and smoke stack on his back.

I mentioned this earlier. If you look at the pics where Laserbeak is on his shoulder, you can see that Laserbeaks feet hook into the shoulder ridges and on the outside of his wrist there is a protrusion where the feet lock on.

Thanks for mentioning it again. I kind of see the wrist part your talking about. Still wish this worked on a magnet system though then there would maybe have been less worry about friction clip ins. But I'm far from complying though, this figure is what I've been waiting years for.

It don't seem that hard to figure it out though. From condor mode:

-Turn the wings forward, then fold them in
-Pull the silver weapon mounts to his sides, over the wing joints
-Fold the weapon mount wings downward to wrap completely around
-Straighten legs out, then turn feet around
-Push head in

Seems pretty simple IMO.

It went from tape to bird, and was an unpainted gray prototype.

Yeah but wouldn't it be more interesting if the reason they hid the transformation was to protect the extra gimmick. While this maybe a far fetched hypothesis it would be much more interesting way for lazerbeak to transform. Also I remember listening to an interview that the designer made mention that he had an idea that would allow the tapes to eject and transformer. If that stuff Bakugon can do it why not Transformers. Again still a theory of mine.

By the way..... WE'RE GETTING AN MP SOUNDWAVE!!!

At the risk of throwing a negative into the ring with what in terms of design and engineering, look like amazing figures (I haven't been this excited about TFs in a while and tbh I'm not sure if I'm more excited about the "uncruzimatik bore" or the fact that we're finally getting in scale MP Autobot cars); I'm not happy with the way TakaraTomy have handled them on the marketing end of things.

We all know that there are exclusives and with this mould, I completely expected an exclusive Clampdown, Deepcover and Tigertrack. I could even understand a G2 Sideswipe exclusive out of the mold. Heck, if they wanted to go with extras, the idea of bonus coins is a great way to go too, like what robotkingdom is doing.

But for the love of Primus, don't gut every single release but the store exclusive of some of their accessories. At this stage (and please feel free to jump in on the first one if I'm wrong) Soundwave looks like he'll only come with energon cubes as the exclusive version, and Sideswipe is missing his secondary pile drivers (jackhammer versions). If they were going to be made, then that should be the very territory that simply never gets explored. At the risk of invoking the Transformers version of Godwin's Law, I would have thought that both Hasbro and Takara would have learned from Hasbro's mistake with the Games of Deception Boxset.

On top of that, they give the exclusive to an online retailer in Japan that doesn't ship internationally, when they'd know full well that their International customer base for Masterpieces is potentially the whole of Hasro's adult Transformers fan demographic.

I realise that robotkingdom is getting in a limited quantity of these (which due to the limited quantities only a partial workaround), but the problem there is you have to pay for your orders up front, even if they're 6 months away. So in this case, if you wont have the money now but have budgeted for them at the end of the year; you're screwed.

Honestly, I think the lesson TakaraTomy need to take from this is that their engineering and design teams should be allowed to let loose as much as possible with future releases because all they touch appears to be gold. However at the same time, their marketting department needs to be kept on a VERY tight leash in terms of "great ideas".

Just a FYI, if you pre-ordered Sideswipe from BBTS, you may want to check your pre-order. It looks like they didn't automatically send out the discount. Mine was at the old $94.99, and now the price is $83.99.

Check your orders!

This is just a gut feeling - the jackhammers will probably come with Red Alert, and they'll probably be a different color, such as gold or chromed red.

Actually one criticism of Soundwave I have is that he doesn't appear to have the same attention to detail as say, Laserbeak, where the camera appears to have been factored in. Two things that I would have liked to have seen with Soundwave are his mechanised spy mic and his head-mounted retractable telepathic beam emitter. Granted the beam emitter to my knowlledge only showed up in War of the Dinobots, but the spy mic had multiple appearances in the catrroon and is really his equivalent of an alternate arm appendage.

Looking at the pictures I noticed something strange. It looks like Sideswipe, Soundwave and Red Alert all have the same hands and they are the same hands as MP-10 Optimus Prime. Not that it matters, just something I happened to notice.

I hope you don't touch yourself with my hands then   . I was just surprised that there wasn't some kind of remolding going on with these two.

They do look very similar, but Soundwave's hands seem to have an extra joint on the index finger.
Apart from that though, they look identical.

You are right, on closer inspection, Soundwave has Optimus Prime's hands Sideswipe and Red Alert don't have the extra joint on the index finger. I wish they would do away with the fixed thumb though.
Watch the first of my youtube series, Friends Transform.

Personally I'm waiting on a 3rd Party company to make better hands, ala Gundam or the like, even if they would be snap-together kits.

I'm looking at you iGear. ;;)
