From low expectations to great surprise! --- OR --- High expectations that lead to disapointment.

You didnt think much about that toy. Every times you've seen it, it was always "meh" [-( for you.

Then, you see it cheap and just say "why the hell not" and you buy it.

You unpack that toy, you really don't expect much...

THEN YOUR SOCKS ARE COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF! :P

That toy that normally should have just been ordinary turn out to be INCREDIBLY AWESOME! That thing that appeared so bland may very well be the best toy you had in a while!

:BOT: WHAT IS THAT TOY? :CON:

EDIT:

New to this thread, tell me the opposite. You had high hopes and expectations for a toy. :P

You receive it, you play with it...
:-(
And it's not what you tought it would be. The toy is not bad, it's just not the sweet thing you expect it to be. What a bitter, bitter disapointment.

WHAT IS THAT TOY?

For me, it's Transformers Animated Oilslick.

First, I'm not a fan of bikeformers. Second? "Oilslick"? Who the hell is he and why should I care? In photos, the bike lookes dilly, the bot looked dorky.

Then, I'm in a mood to put GI-Joes on bikeformers.
I see Animated Oilslick for cheap on Ebay.
Buy.
Wait.
Receive.
Unpack...

WHAT THE HELL? THIS BIKE IS INCREDIBLY RAD!
No, really, that bike is just awesome!
Sadly, Hazzard Viper dont fit on that bike.
Meh, might as well transform the thing.

Simple, fun transformation! Not a damn mess like the bayformers or even FE Arcee! This thing is a joy to transform!
Epic head reveal!
Man, that head is so sweet! It's under a jar of toxic gaz and dosent afraid of anything!

And the weapons? A big-ass "nunchuck" and a keg of beer. How cool is that?

Truely, the BEST transformers I had in hands since months.
And I used to think so little of him...

Image

EDIT: By the way, I just bought him again, but this time, brand new and sealed so I can keep it that way in it's original packaging. Yep, he deserves to be owned twice!

universe tankor. i posted pics in the awesome poses and pics thread. i had no idea he had 2 moveable eyes. one in his alt mode and one in robot. i love him. he is really mean looking and he has a moveable jaw. he is very poseable and amazing light piping. i had no idea who he was or his partner obsidian. i paid 35 bucks for them at a flea market. i had no idea i would like him this much.

I have 2.

The first is Universe Dropshot. I was not really interested in picking him up... but i saw him for half price ($9.99)and i decided that i needed more tanks. Now he's my favorite. he is insanely armed for :michaelbay: and the paint job blends better than Scattorshot.

The second figure was Firetrap. Rather well made for a figure that size. Love the rifles. :D

AM Prime Knockout.

Hated the toy with a passion when the first promo pics came out, and wasn't much impressed watching the reviews. But after getting Breakdown, I wanted to just complete the team, and bought Knockout anyway.

To my surprise, he doesn't look half-bad in-hand. The ports on his chest takes a little getting used to, but the more vibrant red of the Japanese version makes him look a lot better.

Really like his micron.

true. Also forgot to add leader class movie starscream. it blew my mind that they could create such a detailed figure. :CON:

PRiD Hot Shot. I picked up PRiD Bumblebee because the FE BB didn't really impress me and when I found out he was getting a second mold I assumed it would be better. I hated the figure when I got it in hand. The way the head and shoulders looked the overall aesthetic was timid and slouchy looking. I ended up breaking the figure trying to modify the shoulders to swing further back.

Basically being the same figure I thought Hot Shot would be crap too. However after watching a few reviews and seeing some comments praising the figure, saying it was much better than BB I decided to give it a shot. They were right, for some reason I love the figure. I think it's for the reasons Optibotimus said in his review. He doesn't have an on screen counterpart to live up to, so the figure can be judged on it own, rather than how it lives up the the character in the show.

Universe Inferno. I wasn't impressed by the pictures so didn't pay much attention to anything about him and saw no reviews or galleries. When he appeared in a shop I was doubly surprised: firstly because I didn't expect to ever see him in a shop and secondly because he was at half price!

Further surprises were in store for me when I opened him: such a beautiful transformation - everything fits perfectly and it's easy but still interesting. Considering how blocky he is he's also amazingly poseable. I now consider him one of the best Classics - he retains the G1 blockiness so looks imposing yet is super-poseable and fun to transform.

Oil Slick too. He was a gift from a friend during 2008's Christmas. He said the only thing left on the shelf was practically oil slick. So ever since images of him 1st poped up on Seibertron back then, I knew I was going to hate it and never buy it. Buy I got it and it really is awesome.

PRID Knockout. Well, I knew I was going to get him eventually to complete the cast, but from reviews and pictures I thought I was never gonna like him due to the chest and size. Found him for 30% off, and picked him up. He's actually really good and the small car and inaccurate chest does not bug me...

Hmmm many...

Deluxe Movie Ironhide, liked him much more than I tought I would.

PRID Optimus Prime. Apart from the crappy weapon and no paint on the chest, he's very nice.

Generations Thunderwing and Cliffjumper (WFC)

HftD Highbrow (Excellent figure, great alt mode. The arms are a bit weird, but if displayed with the propellors as his hands, he looks great.)
HftD Tomahawk (I figured I would like it, but didn't realize just how much, especially once I customized one to look like a pre-Beast Wars Waspinator.)

Hmmm...

It's been awhile, but my bro sold me a G1 Dogfight he got in a lot. It's G1, so there's nothing special about the articulation or transformation. However, I love the figure! Just a simple solid figure with a good sculpt and fun gimmick that really works.

Universe Heavy Load(the yellow Quickmix repaint). Well I never got Quickmix, and Heavy Load was $10, and he was a very pleasant surprise. Solid in both modes, and I really like the look.

Beast Machines Optimus Primal(tons of transluscent blue plastic one). He's not show
accurate, and the gimmick on the arm is dumb, but he's nicely articulated and I like the transformation.

Hunt for the Decepticons Insecticon. I love this figure. A very cool looking insect and a well articulated four armed robot mode with a good looking head. And he's got wings in robot mode, always a plus.

Sea Attack Ravage(ROTF). Got him shortly after DOTM Laserbeak, Hatchet, and Insecticon cause I had to complete the animals(already had Scorponok). Gotta admit, he's a lot better than I thought. I wish the head was jointed and the legend has a better vehicle mode, but I do like the detail on the figure.

It was HFTD Ironhide (DLX) for me, as there was a 3 for the price of 2 at the shop, the only one I had to choose that I didn't already have or want was Ironhide. Now everyone also mentioned how cool he was but I just didn't like this guy. But when I brought him back, boy was I surprised, I really liked him and also when Peaugh did a video on how to store his weapon in vehicle mode, I liked it even more. Surprised indeed!

I just received and tried my new Alternators Skids.
I was expecting just your standard run-off-the-mills Alternators.

Man, that thing have a perfect vehicle mode, obviously, but the robot mode dont dissapoint at all! The kibble is kept to a minimum. Even the backpack is well implemented. The transformations is complex enough without being frustrating. He have a very G1 look with the posabitily of a modern figure.

So far, he's the BEST alternator in my oppinion among the ones I own, meaning Shockblast, Optimus Prime, Windcharger, and Hound.

HFTD Lockdown.

To me, animated Lockdown was just an amazing toy, and I figured I didn't need another one, but it was there, and I had the cash, so whatever.

I opened him up, and the car mode, admittedly, started to grow on me, spikes and all.

But when I transformed him, I proceeded to realize, that this was the most heavy metal bastard decepticon pirate renegade in the history of transformers! He's so bloody awesome! I wish I still had oilslick (Unfortunate accident) they would be my pirates to go with the upcoming Thundertron.

Another one for me would be PRiD Cliffjumper
I settled for him because at the time I had no way to get th FE one, but I just love this guy to pieces. Really well proportioned, and nice paint detail overall, fun transformation, and awesome hammer-gun.

Probably PRiD Knock Out. I was gonna buy him regardless, but I didn't expect to find him this incredible. Perhaps I'm biased by the fact that it took me ages to finally get my hands on one, but......whatever I guess

RtS legends Optimus, Megatron and Starscream.

I'm not a fan of the legends class, but they looked neat and I found them for slightly cheaper than normal at TJ Maxx, so I decided to give them a shot. Absolutely loved their transformations and how they looked in both forms. Can't say that about any other legends class figure I've purchased.

PRID Ratchet was another. I wasn't overly fond of the pictures I was seeing, but he's Ratchet and I at least wanted the main cast in the line. Even though he lacks a lot of paint apps I still found myself really very please with how me looked in person and his posability is amazing. That said, I have order the reprolabels, but I only did so because I was ordering Knockout's and thought "why not." They'll just jazz him up a bit more. I wouldn't have gotten them if it hadn't been for KO.

2007 Leader Class Nightwatch Optimus Prime. I really didn't like the mold, as I thought it was too bulky and the fact that it wasn't screen-accurate was a big turn off. I still don't like the original, but the color scheme for Nightwatch is pretty cool. I spotted an auction on eBay for 1 that was missing its gun and a smokestack had broken off. I put a what-the-hell bid on it, and ended up winning it for $2 and shipping. After 10 days, I received it, and I am impressed. This figure is actually pretty cool-looking on the shelf, very imposing. Looks great next to DotM Sentinel Prime. I'm glad I bought it, it's a very nice Prime figure.

HftD Sidearm Sideswipe. I bought him to replace the RotF deluxe, so that he and Swerve would use different molds. In the end, I decided to ditch same-body repaints, but was glad to have picked up the Sidearm mold. It's missing the iconing blades and has a weird paint design, but the transformation is beautifully complex and fun and his robot mode looks far more accurate.

For me...Universe Ultra Silverbolt. I got excited about the character reading Exodus and Exiles, and saw one for Sale on the now-departed Crave site. when I got him, I found his simple transformation surprisingly neat. but what really got me was the electronics- I usually am not a fan, feel like they mess up the figure, but I love the green LEDs when his guns go. sometimes I will just cycle through the sounds for a couple of minutes at a time

My other is HTFD Hailstorm; was not at all interested in him at the store, and ended up getting him for christmas from my Dad(he wanted all of his boys to have something fun that year, despite the fact we are all adults with families)

when I transformed that squat, menacing bot for the first time, I fell in love.

SEE FIRST POST FOR IMPORTANT EDIT

Finally! I got my Cybertron Leader Class Megatron! This toy have a huge and very cool looking cybertronian racecar. Even the very simple jet mode is fabulous.

Then, the robot mode..................meh......

This is what my 70$+ got me. A robot with wonky proportions, stupidly disapointing weapons, and a huge and useless backpack.

Energon Megatron is WAY better. The vehicle is as good as the Cybertron version, but the robot is where he truely shine. At least, the wings backpack look good and make sense. Too bad I'm missing the sword and missile. Oh well, for 15$, I'm not complaining. No, wait... I am.

Whatever, Cybertron Megatron is not a bad toy, but for the most expensive Megs of the Unicron Trilogy, he's very, VERY underwhelming.

Megatron's got weird colors, but Galvy is pure win.

I guess for me it would have to be PCC Crankcase with Destrons.

I picked him up because I needed to buy something (damn you, plastic crack addition), and he was the only one in the shop. I played with the figure for a bit, tried some poses, got annoyed at the lack of articulation, decided to give it to my brother for Christmas.
Then I started packing him up again, and something clicked. I couldn't put him down.

He's the reason I now have Bombshock, Over-run, Mudslinger (five packs) and Icepick and Smolder (two packs). I also briefly got Doubleclutch, but that was just for the drones. Didn't even bother transforming him.

A really really big disappointment was DOTM Soundwave. So excited to get him, I saved up money to pay for import and then sold him off one day after I opened him. Just.. didn't click at all.
