G1 Opening Credits

Postby ForensicPrime » Thu Oct 25, 2007 4:57 pm

So I just got the Madman G1 Transformers Complete Collection from Australia today and I'm stoked...the thing looks great. Anyway, I popped the first disk in and hit play on the first episode, More Than Meets the Eye P1, and the opening credits started. Now the credits that ran had Grimlock biting the Transformers logo at the beginning and also had the Constructicons, Insecticons, and other Transformers that were definitely not created until, at the least, later in the first season. It was much more detailed than the original opening credits from the episodes uploaded to You Tube. Now I remember this more detailed opening, but I don't remember it being during the first season.
Does anyone know when this opening credit animation was supposed to be airing? I realize it couldn't have been the 3rd or 4th season since Optimus and Megatron where in it and those guys were dead after the movie. Was it the second season? Or was it something else?

Ah..okay, that makes sense. Then why did they have it opening for the first season on the DVD? That seems like a fairly large mistake for Madman on an otherwise really really well done package.

Can't remember if they have the Season 1 opening on their individual sets....

I'd hazard a guess at them using S2 versions because they didnt like the quality of the S1 opening credits.

Sounds like the season 2 opener....cant tell you why its there....it might be that the target market of the madman DVD box set is in a area that didnt get the serries untill season 2 was arring in the U.S. so the fans may have never seen the season 1 opener.Thats just a guess.

We got Season 1 Sto! Although it didn't start until Season 2 was halfway through airing in the USA and other areas.

I'll have to check the original Madman season boxsets (when I get them back) to see what opener they use..

Like I said it was a guess...I wasnt even sure where Madmans target market is...and I wasnt saying that you guys didnt get season 1 just that you may not have gotten the season 1 opener. There's a simular issue here in the U.S. ,5 face's of Darkness had a alternate opener to the rest of season 3 but it wasnt seen in every state. Also there were a few states that never got the season 4 rebirth 3 parter.Again there were a few states that didnt get the so-called season 5 that feature a pupet Power Master Prime retelling the episodes to that little kid [Tommy I think]

Thats Awesomesauce! We have a similar state structure he in Australia too, where no two states run the same tv schedules (amongst other things) so I can only speak from a NSW and WA perspective on the airing of G1. I do know that the "G2" series got a good run in both states, hell they were still showing the reruns Rebirth of Prime as a special "2 piece special" episode back in 1997!

The G2 season [if thats what you want to call it] wasnt picked up in every state here ether and in most that did ran it at some pretty odd hours. And it took you guys that long to get rebirth????Thats 10 years after us :-?

Nono, we got it in 1989 (or thereabouts) but a channel that did not have Beast Wars, was still showing the Rebirth of Prime/Hate Plague episodes split over a few weeks, and tried to sell it off as a "special movie" to try and compete.

Thats the Return of Optimus Prime.....the one I was referring to was The Rebirth Headmasters but thats still cool that they aired it again as recently as 10 years ago.

Do any of the other season one episodes on the Madman set have the season two titles?

My Sony VHS season one box set also does crazy things with the titles. Some episodes have season one's opening, some have season two's, and some (like "The Ultimate Doom") have season two's visuals but with season three's music!

From memory (and It's been a while since I watched my season 1 set) I think that there were some episodes with the Season 1 and some with the season 2 opener, but I cannot recall the ratio. That and I did a big long viewing of Season 1 and 2, so I may have muddled myself up even more...

Well, I haven't gotten through all the episodes yet, only the first 2 parts of More Than Meets The Eye. However, if I discover that they show the S1 opening on any other disks I'll post it. Still, to me, it's a little odd that they went this route. I mean, the first two episodes video wasn't very good quality, in fact it was pretty poor. I can't imagine they would not put in the S1 opening because of the visual quality.

Well, this is interesting. On disk 1.1 there are the first 5 episodes. On 4 of them (More Than Meets the Eye P1-3 and Roll For It(ep 5)) there is the season 2 opening credits. On episode 4(Transport To Oblivion) there is the original season 1 opening credits. Weird. Well, at least they have it on some of them.
