I write for a gaming website that also puts out a magazine each month. They wanted to do a special free Transformers one so, while talking to Activision, got us to write some articles. Then Activision didn't pony up any information or code. So we've just released this:

You write for a gaming magazine where you expect an outside company to pay for articles about them? Friendly advice, your publisher wouldn't want you to admit that.

Sorry, I phrased that poorly. They didn't pony up any information or game code for preview.

Although quite what they might pay for anyone to release a free mag that will get released regardless, I'm a little unclear of. GameOn has released a free Batman mag, Borderlands and a free monthly SMITE mag. Some companies actually want the literally free press.

OK, that makes more sense. I misunderstood. As it turns out, a lot of the gaming press accepts money to write about articles and good game reviews, which leaves me very skeptical about the video game media in general.
