Why did this new overall site look come so suddenly without notifying the user community. :???:

I dont like the new front page look and having the forum links and news on the right instead of the old left style is also annoying

I want the old style back Is anyone else with me on this?? :BOOM:

I'm sure I won't mind the new look in a couple of days, but I also believe some warning (even an announcement on the front page!) would not go amiss.

The only thing that surprised me at first was the news moving to the right hand side of the screen.

The bars at the top and bottom kinda ground my gears at first.

I've completely gotten used to it by now. I noticed the TF font for the Seibertron logo and the Robots In Disguise font for the rest of it. (Take a good close look at G1 packaging, you'll see what I mean.)

I do kinda miss the graphics at the top of the screen, got used to those, but beyond that, it seems to actually load faster, it's not a negative change.

OK, I officially feel like a grade A cock. I humbly apologise and take back what I said. The new design actually seems to be loading faster than the old one now.

The navigation bars are a little in your face. Could they perhaps be compressed into a minimised icon that floats in one corner of the screen and expands when hovered over?

Also, are the news articles on the homepage meant to overlap?

Only one thing that i would say is a real problem is the google search bar. The one that has the contact us and submit news links. On my I phone it likes to float to random places on the screen. This gets to be a issue when i can't click a link or such caues the bar covers it.
I don't know if this is a problem all around or if it's akin to specific mobile devices.

Yeah, they make th screen small and in order to get the screen normal-ish I must zoom out 25%

I'm going to agree here. Those little bars annoy me terribly. It's not sp much the design as a whole, but the light colors and the bars. Those are my complaints.

Not enough to stop me from coming here, BTW.

I didn't notify the community because I didn't want a 100 different suggestions and ideas that bogged down the process, and because I know you can't please everyone (just look at what happens when Facebook and Twitter implement changes). I knew what I needed to do with the site design to give it that updated look as well as needing to please the advertisers, particularly Google. It's something I've wanted to do for the past two years. I have a mock-up that I did of this design over a year ago that I never implemented and have been wanting to finish ever since.

I know it will take some time for all of us, myself included to get used to the navigation column and corresponding ads being on the right hand side of the page. The sub-navigation has been on the left side for the past 11 years. It was just time to try something new and different.

With all of that said, I am more than willing to listen to ideas and suggestions to improve your experience here as long as it doesn't change the general layout (though layout of the header elements is definitely open for discussion). Let's work with what we have and go from there. It's easier to make changes going forward from your suggestions than it is to create a new look with user feedback prior to launching said changes.

I would love some feedback and suggestions about what to do with the color scheme of the forums. I'm not happy with the forum's look either.

Would you guys prefer if the primary header navigation stayed stationary instead of following you on the page?

Would you guys prefer if I got rid of the bottom navigation bar? I can integrate those elements into the header instead.

Don't worry about it ... you're passionate because you like coming here. I've been doing this long enough (almost 12 years) that I've got a pretty thick skin when it comes to all of this. I've heard it all over the years!

I'm not feeling that idea about the navigation. It's a good suggestion, just not something I want to implement due to the complexity of that idea. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I'd be more than happy to have the navigation go back to being static instead of following you on the page.

The news articles on the homepage are NOT meant to overlap. There was a problem with the CSS (cascading style sheet) the other day that should have been resolved. Please let me know if you continue to experience issues with this. Thanks.

Yes! to both. and I think a slate blue-gray would be more pleasing to the eye.

maybe allow different fonts when typing, I think that we should have more then just: clean bold italic

I appreciate the gentle approach with your constructive criticism, ideas, and suggestions.

_Anshin_ wrote:1.) Header and footer remain static instead of relative. The menu bar and the bottom feedback bars lag and sometimes get stuck on scrolling while browsing from a phone or using a fast scroll feature on the computer.

This is something I'm considering changing, hopefully within the next day or so.

_Anshin_ wrote:2.) the right sidebar (not where we see the news, but the one that hosts the "Find me on Double click Ad banner"). Could you move that banner to the bottom. It being so far out to the right pushes a majority of the content into a tighter (less real-estate) area than it was with the old design. It makes it hard to read some articles/etc especially with browsing on a mobile or tablet device.

I don't understand what problem you are experiencing. The "Find me on Double Click Ad Planner" image appears at the bottom of the far right advertisement column directly below the Google ad on interior pages or the Kapow Toys ad on the homepage. Does it not appear that way to you?

This is something that I still want to implement. I've come up with about a 1/2 dozen different concepts for this and none have made me happy. I have another new idea that I want to finalize later tonight. Hopefully I'll like this idea well enough that I can roll out the change and give all of us back the spotlight navigation that we need on the homepages.

I think that he is seeing it where you are seeing it, he just doesn't like it being there and would prefer a move to the bottom of the page.

looking forward to it :)
also, loving how megs and prime are now coloured, just gives the whole site a bit of...pizazz. And the static header and footer(if that's still the appropriate word seeing as it's at the top  ) are a great help. It was fairly nice having them moving, but a litle laggy and annoying sometimes.

I think the forums should automatically insert completely random profanities and obscenities or other nonsense words into people's posts. For example, if someone says "Prime" without putting an "Optimus" or "Rodimus" in front of it, then it would come out as "Assmuncher Prime".

It would make things more interesting.

Oh cotss ... while we really do appreciate your input, we have young kids and their parents visit this site on a regular basis and they, and there are even others who may not fall into either of those categories that would like to see these forums kept as profanity free as possible.

Thank you though for your input. Image

I've been growing accustomed to the forums new layout more and more, but I have one request.

Can the navigation bar on the right of the page get moved back to the left side?

Other than that, I'm happy with everything. >:oP

Are these the same parents and kids who are now accustomed to hearing phrases like "enemy scrotum" and "Deep Wang"? How about John Malkovich dropping the F-bomb to Bumblebee (unless I hallucinated that)?
