Well today is the day..
we can discuss in this thread what you like/did not like, etc about the movie.

Me and my family are going to see it tomorrow morning.

Spoilers are allowed here please use the spoiler tags though.

And hopefully the scene that my friend Paul and I were on makes it.

I saw it today and liked it as well.

Our scene was cut, not to mention every scene that someone I know was in minus one in the beginning..
When they are in the control room the guy sitting to the right (in the back) is a friend of mine that was a consultant and designed their jumpsuits and helmets.

But everyone else was cut.

Weapon: Twin Independent Mounted Disruptor Rays
Grade: C

The movie opens with a narration about what the GLC is, what it's comprised of, how many sectors it covers and just what it is they fear: Parallax. How a noble Lantern managed to trap and entomb this entity in a far off sector of space :cut to our first scene:

At this point we open on a small moon where a crash landed alien ship is and 3 survivors are walking the surface. Their weight causes a hole to open in the surface and they fall through, down into the moon itself. As they stumble up they realize they are in a cavern and come face to face with the just described Paralax. Parallax is able to abosorb their fear and break free of his prison :Six Months Later:

We jump to OA, meet Sinestro, see a brief shot of the planet. He contacts Abin Sur whose on a rescue mission to help vicitims of Parallax whose been roaming the galaxy amassing power and destroying civilizations. Parallax finds Sur, attacks, mortally wounding him and he takes off for "the nearest inhabited world" :cut to Hal Jordan waking up next to a babe:

We meet Hal, he goes to Ferris, we meet Carol and are shown a scene of why Hal is fearless, brave, couragous, stupid or all of the above.

I really don't intend to do a full play-by-play, my feelings are that the movie is choppy, uneven and at times unsure of what it's trying to be. Is it taking the material serious and giving us a movie that is intense and serious OR is it going to be a rom/com/action campy flick? There are times when I felt it was working then abruptly shifted gears in tone.

I know on this site and a few others the Thor comparisons were made early based just on the plot synopsis and having seen the movie I think they are there in a few other areas. Sadly, they didn't put it together as well as Thor(and Thor wasn't perfect per se) but Thor did do it better.

Hector's Father, a senator=Odin
Hector=Loki
Hal and Thor are opposites: Earthman to Alien world, Godly alien to Earth

The movie needed more character development, badly imo. I don't buy Hal's friend in the movie as someone that would be close pals with Hal. No chemistry.

The one area of the film I was surprised about was Blake Lively as Carol honestly. She didn't look like Carol but I bought her hard nosed, steel reserve attitude that Blake brought to her. I did feel like Carol and Hal had a past.

Hammond has one really big action sequence near the end but I never fully bought into him as "evil" per se. Again, were they going for the sympathetic tragedy angle with him?

The movie kept telling me Hal was irresponsible, reckless and a possible aloof player but I never SAW those things. One chick in bed doesn't make you a player. Being late to work the one time we saw isn't irresponsible. He wasn't reckless in the faux dog fight, it's his job, like he said to "push the limits and test the prototype".

The screener was in 3-D and it was fairly effective for at least half the movie.

How was the CGI? He worked in more places than it didn't, I'll say that. They did manage to clean up a lot of it as most of us suspected but sadly with that much really alien landscaping and creatures when it's all there in a clump it shows in this case.

My girl-friend that I saw it with made the comment about Parallax at the end that she's seen that affect before, in FFour2. Which didn't cross my mind but really she's right. A giant malevolent force destroying civilizations as it absorbs them in it's mass to gain power & strength. It's seen doing this in the trailer so it's not a spoiler imo.

Summary: Forced, Uneven, Lacks Good Flow, Disjointed but good action scenes, some good 3-D for a change(cough Pirates,Priest).
Freedom is the Right of All Sentient Beings

I just saw it tonight and thought it was good. Not great, but still a good movie. It does suffer from feeling kinda rushed and forced. Then again, I never really expect stellar results from superhero movies anymore.

Now, if we could just get that Deadpool movie....

I also concur that the movie was a bit forced.

Perhaps it's just me, but I've seen Hal Jordan's origins story so many times, I've read it in comics and I've seen it in the cartoon movies... I'm kinda just sick of it. But this was still something good to see.. just the wow factor wasn't there. Humor was great, and effects were good. Trailer gave away a lot though.

Didn't really like how Parallax was not really portrayed as an entity. And defeated by Hal alone, even though Sinestro's 'Best Lanterns' couldn't even do anything against him. And I really, really hate when movies force you into sequels. Like the second POTR or the first Spiderman. Although, I guess Batman Begins did.. but still. What are Sinestro's motives for doing that? It's unexplained and it's.. something that could've happened in the second GL movie instaed.

Yeah, i think it would've worked better if he was just TEMPTED by the ring, then left it open for a sequel.

As for my thoughts on the movie, it was okay, but I think Thor was a bit better in pacing.

I think they were trying to portray his temptation by some of his facial expressions throughout various scenes..

Just got back from it. overall, I enjoyed it. I'm oddly torn though. As entertainment, it performed admirably. but as a fan of the comics, I kept having to fight back that voice that pointed out every change from the established canon. so let's get this itemized.

The good:
- Well-paced. Didn't drag on too far. the opposite, if anything.
- No complaints against the acting. Some might state that Hal seems more like Kyle Raynor in recent portrayals, but Hal was young at one point too and is a hotshot, so why not:
- effects very good. The mask seemed off at points, but otherwise the art design for the Corps really sucked me in.
- Glad they didn't portray Sinestro as an ass. Makes for much more interesting character if he isn't inherently evil but just desperate to save lives (as the bit near then ending showed).
- speaking of which. The yellow ring pretty much sets up the Sinestro corps as the plot of movie #2. Good setup, except for one point detailed later.

The acceptable:
- Wasn't big on parallax's design, but writing him as a corrupted Guardian evened that out to a good degree. Not sure an 'entity' could really be affected by gravitational pull or mundane physical laws, but let that slide.
- No weakness to yellow? Would argue that as necessary but can't think of a good reason why. Let it pass.

The things I didn't care for.:
- hector hammond as a fear avatar? Seemed a bit hashed together to fit the plot. Still, at least they used a c-list villain and not the heavy hitters right out of the gate.
- Hal 'outsmarting' Parallax. Wouldn't an immortal entity composed of millions of absorbed spirits at least have thought "maybe I shouldn't get so close to that star".
- Parallax as a guardian is not a bad idea in itself, but does severely limit the potential of any future plot points involving the yellow ring unless they find a way to rescue him from the sun.

i'd rate it a B-minus, but that's being generous. it's entertaining and enjoyable to watch, but quickly forgotten in favor of the next big release.
Next up on Pimp My Jeager.

I saw it last night. It was ok. Better than I thought, but I wish it could have been longer. There where some parts where scenes just jumped without any buildup whatsoever. They should have showed more aliens and the fight at the end could have been much longer. It just starts without warning and ends within 4 minutes. It was more enjoyable than Thor, but it wasn't at the same time. I don't even know what I mean by that. Just know that it was.

Plus I also got my DOTM tickets last night along with the Optimus 3D mask after I saw the movie.

I also saw the 3D trailer. I've been looking all over for it in theaters!

Saw it today. Pretty meh. One plot hole I'm sure anyone has commented on is where Abin Sur crash landed. At the edge of an oceon(swamp?) with a large structure clearly visible in the background. Uh, don't you think someone would have noticed the ship before the ring brought Hal to it? And just how far away was Abin anyway? The ring was sent out in the daytime, picked Hal up in early evening/late afternoon, but didn't bring him back until it was dark? I know these things happen in movies, but still it was a bit jarring. Main point, why not have him crash land in the middle of nowhere like other adaptations?

Oh yeah, plot holes with Hal coming to the rescue of the Senator, and when did Hector kidnap Carol?

Final fight had little to no build up. And it was a bit nonsesical. Big bad Parralax takes two planets and at least six Green Lanterns, but the guardians let a rookie face him alone? I know Hal asked for it specifically, but Tomar and Kilowog could have easily assisted Hal in the final battle, get knocked out, and have Hal still save the day.

The story was way too Earth based. Disapointing use of the other Lanterns too. They were just there. Literally. Oh, and why build the yellow power ring? And why do we care if Sinestro goes evil? He didn't do much of anything in the film. And then there's Abin Sur. Big hero Lantern. Get's taken out after one fatal blow, doesn't even fight back. Yeah.

Despite these negatives, there are some positives. I liked Parallax being a fallen Guardian. Wish they'd enlightened upon him some more though.

The constructs and effects I thought were good. (Yay, no tags!)

The training sequence was fun.

Carol knew Hal was Green Lantern? Nice twist on an old concept, but the love angle was very bland.

So despite my criticisms, some of them nitpicky, it's still a decent film. I'm sure when I see it again on DVD I'll see some more positives, cause those are harder to find than negatives.

I saw it last night in 3D. It was better than I thought it would be. I didn't know much about the Green Lantern prior to seeing the film, so whatever changed from "real canon" has probably "corrupted" my view of him. But I really liked it. I didn't find any plotholes but I'm sure it's filled with them. I was just too busy being entertained that I forgot to analyse everything. :P
Anyway, I'd see it again. I'm glad I discovered the Green Lantern amidst the X-Men and Iron Man hype.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

Green Lantern was the most frustrating movie for me this summer. Months ago, if you told me X-Men: First Class would be better than Green Lantern, I would've said you're crazy given my reactions to the trailers. This movie could've been great but it was very lacking.

-We've seen so many cool iterations of Hal Jordan's origins in various forms: Secret Origins, Emerald Dawn, First Flight, and New Frontier. They couldn't even match those books. I would've also liked a Training Day in space take.
-I agree with people's observations with Hal going back to Oa before fighting Parallax. No one was stopping him to fight Parallax. Going back to Oa was a pointless scene only to set up the yellow ring but not advance the story.
-The film never found its balance with it's space or Earth setting. Thor managed to get that right.
-One of the scenes I really enjoyed was Carol Ferris realizing Green Lantern was Hal.
-I love the idea of Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller. I know they were trying to set up the DC film universe but she felt tacked on like Black Widow in Iron Man 2.
-It was mentioned above that Hal magically found Hector at certain times. I'm glad it wasn't just me that saw that. I thought I looked over some obvious hints like the ring leading Hal to him.
-The editing just made the film move slowly.

*Sigh* If there is a Green Lantern 2, I hope they learn from their mistakes.
