MP Grimlock's gun looks good on him. Same with the WFC Grimlocks sword.

Of course if you're a CHUG person either one of those is still a better figure than the PotP version anyways so why bother

PotP Grimlock is a real disappointment.

Completely disagree. I love PotP Grimlock. Does the combination gimmick interfere with his dino look? A little. But I have FoC Grimlock and he has other problems. Great for just sitting on the shelf but I want a toy, thank you very much!

Well, FoC Grimlock is pretty much hot garbage, so it's not a good comparison.

Grimlock should be treated as a premier character. He should get top billing.

Instead we got undersized Dinobots who are compromised by the combination gimmick. Made worse because Volcanus looks really lame. Bad proportions and the worst leg configuration style (similar to Optimus and Motormaster).

All of Grimlocks proportions suffer for his gimmick. He's not big enough for the character or to be a combiner torso. He feels hollow and his joints are either too loose or on ratchets with bad set-points all to make the combiner happen.

Now, his transformation is pretty cool. His head sculpts are quite good. His paint application is excellent.

But...

He is a disappointment from pretty much everything he could be considering how long we waited for a larger than deluxe Grimlock.

My PotP Grimlock is armed with the sword from FoC Grimlock (the G1 version that came out with Silver Knight Deluxe Optimus Prime during Age of Extinction) and Clobber from Titans Return to serve as his blaster weapon. I found a clever way to still use the FoC shield too, utilizing one of the combiner feet Grimlock comes with, thanks to a post from another member on these boards. It works for me so far. As for the rest of the Dinobots, I'm getting duplicates of everyone so I can have Volcanicus displayed with the combiners as well as all the individual members on my "Season 1 Classics" shelf. All the Dinobots used for Volcanicus can just donate their swords and blasters to the guys on the shelf, giving each of them a proper sword and blaster instead of just one or the other. I still have to find a good solution to arm Volcanicus himself, though.

My Grimlock is holding Micronus in weapon form. Looks decent. But I was also disappointed he was weapon-less.

Since I have TR Laser Prime holding down the leader position on the shelf, and my 3 year old lost Diac, I had these up for grabs.
The double barrel blaster is almost perfect.

Also, fellow seibertronian carytheone fashioned these bad boy brawler gauntlets out of what he had to work with.

I also love Cobotron's use of TR Voyager OP's sword and gun. I actually think casting the sword in clear plastic and painting it red and including that sword with that gun would have been a brilliant and cost saving move by and allow for further Prime Master integration.

The brawler gauntlets are very cool, too.

I'm sure there will be a very good solution available soon but I won't say more in this forum. If you want to know what I think please feel free to PM me.

Third party has it covered, unfortunately in a fall of cybertron style, the zoid esque cockpit is definitely an oddity but a welcome one for me.

The Dinobots in this line are just too small. This hinders my buying decisions to invest in this line. Hopefully a Weijang upscale of the dinobots might be promising because scale be damned Im sticking with Toyworld Dinobots for now.

I'm not looking at them as the Dinobots in the normal sense, just as parts for a Dinobot combiner. Named Dinobot. Because Volcanicus is stupid. I'd even go so far as to consider putting something like on them.

All right, I'm just going to say it: I think Nonnef Productions will make G1 Dinobot weapons for each G1 Dinobot. That seems to be the niche they'be been carving out in the market that is much needed to upgrade the new toys (I purchased Chromedome's red rifles). What they have made so far that I don't have but hope to get looks amazing (Insecitcon weapons set, TR Hot Rod guns maybe). I just hope when they do (and I think they will) release Grimlock's weapons they still have stock on some stuff I'm eyeing because their flat rate shipping is expensive.

As for Perfect Effect, they are the masters at overdoing everything. Why can't a foot just be a foot or hand just be a hand? Or why can't they just release a basic weapon's set? I can't afford what they make and simply will not support them. I have the same problem with Reprolabels going all out on figures without offering a basic and necessary sticker set I would purchase if it were an option instead of forcing me to choose one sticker set over another based on who needs it more. Right now I only plan to get their Grimlock set and I am shaking at the boots wondering how crazy they are going to get with that one when all I need are replacements for 's terrible stickers and maybe a a few additions to enhance that G1 look.

I agree. had a good sword and gun option from TR OP and should have used them for PotP Grimlock. Makes no sense.

Starscream gets his weapons.

Elita-1 gets Starscream's weapons.

Inferno (should have been RID OP/Omega Prime) gets Hot Spot's weapons

Grimlock gets nothing.

To the people saying he should have come with TR Voyager Optimus' weapons: Wow, you're right, it totally makes no sense that Hasbro didn't include the weapons from a completely different figure with a completely different set of molds - Oh, wait a minute, yes it does.

Now that that's off my chest...

I'm pretty sure I know why he comes with no armament other than the bucklers/combiner feet.
For those who are unaware, Hasbro has a very rigid size class/price point system. They impose a strict upper budget limit on how many grams of plastic, how many ounces of paint, etc. are allowed for figures of each size class in each line to ensure they have the same price (which drives some of Takara's designers bonkers at times). So I would presume that Grimlock's bulk took up the rest of the plastic allotted to him. Annoying, but at least I understand why it happened. And I'm overall happy with Grimlock otherwise - it's a little disappointing that he's not taller, but still. He's got good poseability and the combiner torso mode is well done in my opinion (the leg setup works better on him than Motormaster's attempt at it, and the ankle rockers of the PotP combiner feet take care of any remaining problem potential I think.

I would like to point out that Titans Return and Power of the Primes do provide quite the selection of separate weapons, so there is that, though none of them are direct matches.

Nonnef is probably the best bet as far as 3P weapons for him, they've done good work so far.

Of course, if you happen to own G1 Grimlock's accessories, here's a fun fact: They're double-posted - the pegs actually have a 5mm upper section.

Admittedly, the sword looks a bit undersize in his hand, but still.

Bradimus, retooling CW Hot Spot into RiD Prime was highly unlikely for Power of the Primes. RiD Prime is not a G1/IDW character. That kind of thing is more the purview of E-Hobby and TakaraTomy Mall exclusives.

It was my understanding, actually, that the limits on plastic and paint apps used was per case, not per figure, or at least that's how it used to be. That allowed for some figures to get a little extra in the way of paint details, accessories, size, or whatever, as long as some other figure or figures in the case made due with less plastic or paint to compensate. Either way, yes, it is annoying for fans and collectors who want superior products. That's why having a Takara option before was always so good. They didn't limit themselves in the same ways that Hasbro did and does. That's how it works with American corporations, though. The bottom line is literally the bottom line, profit.

Inferno shouldn't really count as he's an import from an older line (the head was suspected, but unused), and note that Starscream's weapons are rather small and don't combine like the CW weapons do, and Elita's are even smaller (FYI: Elita has parts switched out compared to Starscream, including the guns):



My guess is the Foot Armor is counted towards the plastic budget for the new molds, while Inferno gets lenience on his side due to being a "legacy mold" with hardly any tooling R&D, while Grimlock just misses out... along with Hun-Gurrr:

I didn't notice Elita-1 swapped out smaller guns, but considering how much better she looks than Starscream I'm not complaining about that. Besides, aren't those guns similar to her G1 cartoon pistol?

So i just wanted to share what i did for grim's weppons. I used a spare set of combiner wars motormaster's weppos they work really well
