They're way too small to be Minicons, if my math is accurate.

No, he means that they're referred to as Mini-cons now by Hasbro and all official fiction.

Oh, that.

I thought that was true, but TFwiki(or was that Teletraan-1) don't seem to want to accept that... :-?

More importantly, since when is there a size limitation of how small a "minicon" can be? xD

And to answer the original question, I think it's GREAT. I REALLY like the Gunman (ala TTGL) look of him. :) And both versions will be instant buys. :P I don't have any Frenzys OR Rumbles, and Soundwave needs his minions dammit. xD

G1 never had Mini-Cons until Classics, so all smaller partners including Targetmasters (talking to you, Nightstick) and especially Soundwave's cassettes should not be called that.

I know, the games are not part of G1 proper, but I still refuse to call them Mini-Cons. Heck, I don't even consider the PCC ones Mini-Cons!

It's the worst kind of retcon. It brings nothing new to the table, it creates plot holes and it dilutes the simplicity and originality of the original story.

You never heard of a ret-con?

Things are added to what we previously have "known" about established fiction all the time. Labeling the cassetticons "Minicons" now in no way contradicts anything established in G1 any more than the addition of sparks as their "essence".

Targetmasters, along with most other -masters of G1, at least in western continuities were Nebulans, not purebred Transformers. So who's to say that purebred -masters weren't Minicons?

There could be lots of reasons to consider small TFs in G1 "Minicons", but if the best we can come up with is "we never heard them be called Minicons before so they can't be called Minicons now", it's best left within personal continuity IMO.

Additionally, it's not even a big jump. A minicon is, by simplest definition, a small transformer. It's just a classification, not necessarily a faction (although it is in the Unicron Trilogy universe).

Minicons fill the same roles -master partners and cassette transformers filled, they're just lumped into one category instead of each having their own. That said, it's not wrong to consider PCC minicons some sort of Taregetmaster partners, given how they're depicted in the bios.

For other examples, Armada Sideways is certainly a Headmaster, just not a typical one, while Armada Overload is very much a typical Headmaster.

It's simply a streamlining thing to just call them all minicons. >:oP

I have to completely disagree.

Mini-cons in the fiction were Transformers with the ability to connect with another Transformer and in doing so, instill power into them forcing an evolution in their technology. Read the translated Linkage story: https://picasaweb.google.com/1054995134 ... 1412753570 and you'll see what I'm getting at.

Mini-cons were spawned from Unicron, given sentience and free-will through interaction with humans, and are just fundamentally different from other small Transformers.

That's about as canon-nerdy as I'm willing to get. ;)

Revel in it.

Making it a race and not a faction.

Arguably japanese targetmasters COULD be minicons. They're from another planet (with no further explaination given) and have bonded with Cybertronians. They share a speech-pattern. It's still a retcon, though. Somewhat plausible.

They where just like Japanese Headmasters from the planet Master, the inhabitants of which fled Cybertron before the great war and landed on that planet, they later shrunk themselves down for I believe energy reasons. But they're still Cybertronians.
God I hated Headmasters.

So then that was a unique attribute of Mini-Cons in the Armada universe, not shared by Mini-Cons in other universes. New Hasbro definition of Minicons is small robots, whether we like it or not, so it's going to take a little brain bending to reconcile both definitions, but it's not that hard.

Also, for what it's worth, they did change the spelling. "Mini-con" being the race and faction from the UT universe; "minicon" being any small transformer that typically links to a bulk in some way, be it as a Targetmaster, Headmaster, or a more traditional "Mini-con" type buffing function.
