How is it damaging to a business admitting to carrying the latest item in its own range of exclusives? And if the "inquire about our products" section of your customer service portal results in "yeah sorry, we don't like talking about our products", then why the hell do you even employ people for that section?

Although just yesterday a MP-17+ Prowl from Takara Tomy was revealed in the pages of Dengeki Hobby, featuring a more cartoon accurate color scheme, it looks like this may not be exclusive to Japan and the Takara Tomy Mall after all. Our friend Darryl from Giant Robot Comics has notified us via Twitter of a possible Hasbro release of MP-17+, by way of a listing from Diamond Comic Distributors. Although Hasbro has released Masterpiece Prowl in the past, the listing below shows an estimated shipping date of 9/26/2018 as well as an image showing the more cartoon accurate MP-17+ version.

We've mirrored Darryl's screen capture of this listing below, also showing the $79.99 price point that the recent MPM-3 Bumblebee shared.




This is certainly good news for collectors and possibly evidence of more alignment in the global Masterpiece releases as has been seen in the Masterpiece Movie lineup, as we also now have confirmation, as we were writing this up, of the figure to appear thanks to site sponsor BigBadToyStore.. So instead of new G1 figures like mirage, hound, jazz, etc we are getting more toon accurate reprints of a mold that's seen like 6 repaints

Prowl, smokescreen, red alert, bluestreak, silverstreak, and blue bluestreak should be enough right?? That's great for other people who want the repaint, but I'm more than happy with my 1st prowl and I'm just impatient for the official releases of our classic and well remembered autobot car brethren. Glad the beast wars fans are getting some love too

I'm pretty sure simple repaints are not going to take budget from the new mold department, their being made alongside other stuff not replacing them.

Plus I doubt we are going to see an MP Jazz and or Cliffjumper for that matter for a long time due to Porsche.

This is one of the few anime edition re colors I may actually pick up. I have the original MP17, but I broke a piece when I first transformed him into robot mode. I may also pick up the 14+ Red Alert since I don't have the original, but other than that, I will stick with the primary releases of Smokescreen, Bluestreak, Soundwave, Wheeljack, or any other characters they could take in this direction in the future.

i wouldnt count out porsche Volkswagen group owns them plus many others including lamborghini
and besides they gave us bumble bee a VW bug so i say jazz and cliffjumper aren't too far behind

What the hell would an MP Cliffjumper look like anyways? He's the one guy who doesn't fit with the whole "realistic" thing since he is a chibi version of a regular car.

That's how I think we'll see Cliffjumper. The MP will look just different enough that Takara won't need to get permission. With the possible US release of Prowl getting it went from nope to maybe.

Or for a better example just turn to Bumblebee. Problem is with Both CJ and Jazz being Porsches it would be strange having both a normal Porsche and a tiny Porsche in the same line. Bee worked fine since there are no big Beetles so he's fine as a one off.

We have some entirely different news today, in the toys category, from all the Bumblebee stuff we've been seeing this far: the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-17+ Prowl Anime Version is currently in the hands of a number of toy bloggers - including regular source Alfes2010 on Twitter, and GenmonTCracker on Facebook - meaning we also now have in-hand images of the cartoon accurate deco of the character, and its collector coin!

Check them out mirrored below, and let us know if this appeals more to you than the regular version, and if you spot any differences from the last time the figure was seen in public here. The discussion awaits in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

I never bought MP-17. so I have 17+ on preorder. I do kind of like him better.

A piece of absolute G1 beauty!

I'm only getting picking up this version of Prowl because my original MP-17 had a piece on it that was so tight that it broke during transformation. Otherwise, the only two Masterpiece figures that look different enough to warrant another purchase in the MP+ line, in my opinion, are Wheeljack and Shockwave (possibly Megatron as well if you really prefer the toy accurate aesthetic).


I may still pick up Lavenderwave over the Deep Purple version only because the older one has been discounted by so many online retailers that it only makes sense to save the money and add him to my MP Decepticon shelf.

How far do you MP completionists go? Hasbro had announced Takara Masterpiece releases, from MP 17+ Prowl and on, would get an automatic Hasbro release to be distributed in Hasbro's markets. The product would be the same, but there would be a slip cover in english. Masterpiece 17+ Prowl came out and since many simply bought him from Japan or from retailers getting their product from Japan, there were few posts showing what came of the Hasbro release, which was mainly ignored, until now.
What did that slip cover look like? Well, below you will see that it is a black box that goes over the Japanese box. On the box is big bold white writing stating that what you are purchasing is the same as what is sold in Japan. This black box has both the Takara and Hasbro logos, something that is now customary in this new age of brand unification.
This gives you a very good idea of what we are to see for Hasbro's distribution of the upcoming Beast Wars Megatron Masterpeice figure along with MP-44 Optimus Prime version 3. The images were found on collectors.com and svadercollectionnables.com.

Indeed. If Peter Cullen voiced it, I would like it more, but eh. Now, my concern is the figure itself. If he doesn't have (at least) the same level of articulation and complexity as MP-36, I will be disappointed. Seriously, a figure of that price should be like that.

Agreed. Kind of pisses me off now that there's a battery pack and cables in it for no reason at all for me.

I wasn't going to get the original Prowl as I felt the cost did not equal to the size, but I had some extra money so I went for it. I loved it as I felt it walked right out of the cartoon. The more I see this + version I'm really contemplating dipping again.
