I'm pretty sure Black Hat is one of the people who does that, being practically worshipful of 3P stuff no matter how hideous or pricey, while calling HasTak's retail TFs worthless and not worth their price. I think Black Hat even went as far as to say HasTak should give up making Transformers entirely and leave it to the 3P companies - I know somebody here said that.

For me this thing is a lot like MP44. It looks amazing, and I'm beyond thrilled that it exists, but it's way too rich for my blood. Still, if I had the money for MP44, I'd get this instead.

i dont know if it will reach 8000 with so many pre existing unicrons out there. the barge was a one of a kind.

if this gets backed and anybody wants one get it now. the second hand market price will be brutal.

i really want this thing and i have the money to get it. i am nearing retirement when it comes to collecting transformers and this is something i have been wanting for a centerpiece in my collection. the only other one i need is a giant scorpinok to go with the other cites and im done.

TBH I hope it does get made so people that want it can get it, but at the same time I do feel that for that price you should get a lot more. I'm 100% in the boat of "you get what you pay for" and believe that people who want to spend more money for a better product should be able to do so. But for that price I'd rather it had been scaled down a little bit and more care and attention had been put in (mainly in terms of paint detailing). I mean, it's big and it looks cool, but for £450 I'd like all the lovely detail in the planet maw picked out at the very least. If this were £250 or even £300 then I'd be a bit more forgiving.

TLDR: I don't hate it at all, and I hope it succeeds, but it isn't for me. Not that I can buy it anyway as it's US-only.

I knew the colors were off but there was just something else that was bugging me until I seen Sabrblade's post in that the beard is gone.

I don't get many high price figures at all. The only MP figures I have are Supreme Commander Primal, Dinobot and Megatron. I don't buy third party combiners at retail because they always plummet in price after a few years and even then, I don't buy many. Quantron, Giant, Warlord, the oversized KO Throttlebot combiner and the KO oversized and retooled CW Superion are the only ones I have.

However, I would think about backing this.

But not before they fix the colors and beard.

I hate those colors they're using. I hated them on the Armada Unicron redecos and I hate them on this. Those are not his colors. I'm not one to demand things look like G1 but if you're going this far and for that price then it damn well better be the actual G1 colors and not the G1 colors they push on us like they do for Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime.

In my defence, that was around the time of POTP (IMO one of the absolute worst Generations lines the TF franchise has had in a while). I will happily admit that was a bit...extreme of me, but not totally unwarranted given that we were literally dealing with stickers for detail amongst other crap.

As far as being "worshipful" (is that even a word?) of 3P stuff, there's plenty of 3P stuff I really don't care for (especially FansToys' MP-alikes with their horrendous overengineering, dodgy tolerances, complete disregard for operator enjoyment and rather bland, soulless approach to design). But at the same time there's a lot of stuff out there I really like and some that does the job a lot better than the official counterpart, especially in the MP market now that Takara decided that cartoon-literalism was more important than making an actually good looking figure for under £100.

There's plenty of really good figures from HasTak, past and modern, that I love too though. Heck, the SS line in particular has been a real treat, and from what I've seen of it Siege looks amazing.

In short, I like good toys whether they're £10 or £100.

The same was said of Generations Metroplex, Trypticon and TR Fort Max. They are also virtually MP, for a third of the price...

It is completely impossible to make a scale accurate Unicron, other than as a cosplay outfit.

If you're trying to scale with World's Smallest figures and you're a really big person, then maybe

Now on to unicron...wow, that's just.. Wow. I'm happy for those that get him, assuming he meets the goals of course. I'm not confident that he will but I've been wrong before. As to what will happen if it doesn't get backed? I don't think they'll do anything to it. They'll redesign it completely if they make it into a titan class.

Yeah, Unicron is "chump change" compared to some of the non-transforming statues out there.

If I could, I would. I see the size to complexity to potential worth the asking price. If it were 300, 400 or 450 - we'd still complain. Maybe hasbro are over estimating their market, but if Takara think people will pay the asking price for the new mp prime, this would be palatable to those...

You know the sad thing is, that if this was available across the world, It would probably hit the goal within a few days. There are definitely people in other countries willing to spend the big bucks for things like this.

For me taxes are like $35 bucks, but shipping is free.

Compare this to SUPER 7 and SNAKE MOUNTAIN. This is a steal.

It would be easier to do though if not for the want of the Ghostbusters Optimus Prime. That's probably gonna be about 250 to get off ebay since I doubt they'll have a lot of stock left over for selling online, and who knows how that iwll go this year anyway.

Still, as weird as it may be to say ... this wouldn't be the first time I've spent that much. On any single item, sure. But I've bought a few 3rd party teams and a few combine to make just one guy and stay that way all the time. Might be just the thing to cap off my Classics collection. Amazon Unicron is great, but is dwarfed by the likes of Metroplex and Tripticon (even if they aren't on the same shelf). With lancer coming in the era I'm concerned with is complete, as fas as I'm concerned.

Just a thing I was thinking of, this guy was 26" tall, had LED light up features, included a smaller (not to scale) Rodimus on the base and was $800 USD, and sold out.


So this Unicron, that can convert from planet to bot and back, for $575USD at around the same size seems worth it. At the minimum, it's an amazing articulated statue of the Chaos Bringer.

Hasbro, what are you thinking?

I don't have any issues with the price, the size, the sculpt (aside from the chin), or the release date. My problem is that you're dropping a big ticket item on us with no advance warning or time to save and saying "you have a month and a half to figure out how you're paying for this. Go!" And we have to do it the same month that MP Prime 3.0 is being released by Hasbro for $450 and MPM Megatron is coming at $150. Does Hasbro just think if we can afford one we can afford both? That's pretty absurd. And some of us don't have the option to cancel our MPM Primes and order a later run instead. Really terrible timing from Hasbro, they should have told us about it this week as SDCC and started the campaign in February when people are more likely to have extra money from tax returns.

Surely they would be better of selling only 3000 copies of this figure, than selling 0.

3,000 isn't much and they'd probably be making this at a loss, at 5,000 maybe they can break even, 8,000 is likely what it takes to turn a profit.

Where have you seen the prototype with the beard? And we haven't seen the final version yet, this is still an early 3D printed prototype. With the release not until 2021 there's ample time for them to make adjustments to the sculpt. If enough people badger them at SDCC about the chin then maybe we can get that changed. Looking at the art they based this on in the video it appears the beardless chin was the plan from the start, the blue part being a sort of compromise between both the beard and the bare chin, but I don't think anyone really wants him without the iconic beard.

As a backer of HasLab's only other project, Star Wars Jabba's Sail Barge, I wanted to make some comments that directly or incorrectly respond to other things that people have posted.

Yes, funding for this project if met is about 4.6 million dollars. Yes, it's a lot. Yes, Hasbro has that much money to do it themselves. The point of this method is to ensure they make a profit. Because many of the big ticket items collectors claim they want don't get sold through and they take a loss. This is the means to give you what you want without them taking it in the shorts. Meaning, put your money where your mouth is.

Also remember the 4.6mil isn't just for production alone. It's for the design work they already put in to it. Talented people don't work for free.

Better to make 3000 than zero? No, it isn't. They would take a loss on 3000. Remember, they have to pay for factory time. Factories don't want to take small orders. Because it's not just setting up the equipment to produce, it's training the staff on assembly and packaging. If they are setting all that up, they want to do it for a longer run. If you want a small order, they will do it. But then the cost per unit would be at a point that no one would buy? $1000 for Unicron... go! Nope, dead before it starts.

As for the individual cost and time to fund. It's about $600 and you have 6 weeks to come up with that if you don't already have it on hand. That's a lot of time. 2-3 paychecks for most people. If that is a struggle that you need more time for, maybe you shouldn't be buying $600 toys at all. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just being honest. Also keep in mind that $500 Sail Barge now gets $1200 on the secondary market.

Finally, the international market. There will be so much complaining about how Hasbro is screwing those overseas and whatnot. For an establish business, there is so much more to selling overseas than slapping a shipping label on a box. Different taxes, import fees, etc. If funded they actually will make some of these available to overseas buyers. But that won't happen until after they are delivered to the US and Canada customers that pre-ordered.

The Sail Barge project brought the entitlement out in a lot of people and it was ugly. It will happen again here. In the end, Hasbro is a corporation that is in the business of making money. They don't owe anyone anything. So if you are priced out of it or can't pre-order it, that's the breaks. If you don't think it's work the price, don't order.

As for me, I'm on the fence. It's a cool figure but it is a lot for 1 toy. I have the Sail Barge and I love it. But space is at a premium in my collection and this takes a lot of it. Transformers aren't my #1 collectable and I've never been a huge Unicron fan, so I'm kind of on the take it or leave it stance. I'm going to let a few weeks tick by before making my decision. If nothing else I'm sure I could resell it down the road if I changed my mind about owning it.

Looks great. Think they misjudged most of the transformers community with the price and the limited market. I reckon it'll be made regardless of if it meets the target but I'd be curious if it doesn't what they'd do. They've spent time and effort at it so I couldn't see them wasting that time or money.
