Slightly understanding wife, eh? Ha ha... Not to brag, but really makes me appreciate (not that I didn't already) my fiancé who describes my hobby as beautiful and says she sees all the joy it brings me.
Anyway, as for my collection... It is basically on various shelves wherever it fits! Most of it is in the living room. One bookshelf has my Classics style '84 'bots and 'cons:
The backdrops images are just high-res images I found online, tweaked a bit, printed on my home printer across four pieces of paper, and taped together. Nothing fancy, but it looks good, I think!
And then the top of that bookshelf has my Masterpiece 'cons (and some other knick-knacks, including a Darth Vader/Death Star Transformer):
That penguin tin on the right side of the above photo is actually quite handy for storing some accessories in when not needed based on whatever mode my figures are in at the time.
Also in the living room is a large entertainment center which is actually too small in the center for my current television. The space that was for a TV, however, is actually quite a good size for Generations Metroplex and some friends:
Then some of the shelves to either side are occupied with some other figures:
Then across the top of that entertainment center:
There are some bookcases in the dining room that are mostly filled with my fiancé's things. But there is a little bit of Transformers representation, some Hot Rods/Rodimus Primes that don't fit elsewhere.
Finally, in (if we ever finish setting it up, ha ha) what will be the craft room/office, I have a large metal rack that I rescued from KB Toys (rest in peace) when I used to work there and they were just going to throw it out. On the top shelf I have Fort Max and a lot of his friends:
(Although since I took this photo about a week ago, I've since picked up Sawback. I think he makes a pretty good shield for Alpha Trion, so that's what I've done with him.)
Eventually, when the room is more set up, the other shelves on that rack will have my massive collection of Optimus Primes. Here are some older photos from a previous residence that can give you an idea what that will look like, although a few figures have since been added:
Finally, I don't have a photo of it, but along the windowsill in the bedroom I have a bunch of the older style Legends class figures.
Another way to interpret the question of "How do you display your collection?" is the question of what mode to display them in. Obviously at the moment I have all of them (except Junkheap, who is Wreck-Gar's ride) in robot mode.
Some people blessed with much more money and space then I have buy multiples to display their figures in each mode at the same time. Some people leave them in one mode forever. But to me, at that point, I may as well have left them in the package! Which, I suppose, is also an option. Some people prefer mint-in-box.
But to me, they're Transformers. They
need to be transformed!
So, periodically, I'll go through and change them all (except for Wreck-Gar and Junkheap, who I usually just leave alone since they can be kind of fragile and together they show off both modes just fine) from one mode to another.
I have a really great stand for Unicron when he's in planet mode so that he can be oriented correctly rather than just sitting on his back:
The big bots are a bit problematic. Metroplex fits just fine in carrier mode, but no way his city mode ever gets a good long term display. (Pity, as I have some third party add-ons for him that specifically accentuate his city mode, such as some new knees, a ramp extension, and Six-Shot's tower mode, as seen in the next photo that I'm just leaving here because I'm an insatiable show-off!
)
Fort Max... Since his current shelf became his home, I've yet to go through the process of transforming everyone, and I am rather doubtful either of his alt modes will fit on that shelf, so I am a
bit worried. Actually, that shelf if soooooo overstuffed with figures, it may be a problem on fitting everyone's alt modes even if I took Fort Max off of the shelf completely! So... I guess... Whenever I next get the urge to transform everyone, wish me luck?
Anyway, when you can, post some photos of how your collection is displayed. I (and, I am sure, others) would love to see!
